- 94 - Recording ∫About [ š] ([Face Detection]) The following AF area frames are displayed when the camera detects the faces. Yellow: When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the frame turns green when the camera is focused. White: Displayed when more than one face is detected. Ot her faces that are the same distance away as faces within the yellow AF areas are also focused. Note • When [Metering Mode] is set to multiple [ C], the camera will adjust the exposure to suit the person’s face. •Under certain picture-taking conditions including the following cases, the face detection function may fail to work, making it impossible to detect faces. [AF Mode] is switched to [ ] ([ Ø ] while motion pictures are taken). –When the face is not facing the camera–When the face is at an angle–When the face is extremely bright or dark –When there is little contrast on the faces–When the facial features are hidden behind sunglasses, etc.–When the face appears small on the screen –When there is rapid movement–When the subject is other than a human being–When the camera is shaking –When Digital Zoom is used•If the camera is registering something other than someone’s face, change the settings to something other than [š].

- 95 - Recording ∫Setting up [ ] ([AF Tracking]) Bring the subject to the AF tracking frame, and press [AF/AE LOCK] to lock the subject. A AF tracking frame •AF area will be displayed in yellow when a subject is recognized, and exposure and focus will automatically adjust continuously following the subject’s movement (Dynamic tracking). •AF tracking is canceled when [AF/AE LOCK] is pressed again. Note •When the AF lock fails, the Tracking AF frame will turn red and then disappear. Redo the AF lock.•In the following cases, [ ] operates as [ Ø]: –When the subject is not specified–When the subject is lost–When the AF tracking fails •Dynamic tracking function may not work in the following cases:–When the subject is too small–When the recording location is too dark or bright –When the subject is moving too fast–When the background has the same or similar color to the subject–When jitter is occurring –When using the zoom A

- 96 - Recording ∫Changing position and size of the AF area (Only when [ Ø] is selected) If you performing any of the following operations, the screen will switch to the settings menu. • When [ Ø] is selected, press [FOCUS].•From the menu screen, select [ Ø], and press 1. 1Press 3/4 /2/ 1 to move the AF area. •You can set to arbitrary position of the screen. (It cannot be set to edge of the screen) •After moving the AF area, press [DISP.] to return it to the center. 2Rotate the rear dial to change the size of AF area. Rear dial right: Enlarge Rear dial left: Shrink • It can be changed to 4 different sizes. 3Press [MENU/SET] to set. Note • AF area cannot be moved during motion picture recording.•The spot metering target can also be moved to match the AF area when using [ Ù].•Position of the AF area will return to initial state when the camera is set to Intelligent Auto Mode, when the Sleep Mode is activated, or when this unit is turned off. •The AF area may not be displayed as intended at certain zoom magnifications or under low light.

- 97 - Recording Taking Close-up Pictures Applicable modes: This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. You can take pictures of a subject as close as 1 cm (0.033 feet) from the lens by rotating the zoom lever upmost to Wide (1k ). Use this setting to get close to the subject and then further enlarge when taking the picture. You can take a picture with the Digital Zoom up to 3k while maintaining the distance to the subject for the extreme Wide position [1 cm (0.033 feet)]. 1Press [AF/AF #/MF] to display the focus setting screen. 2Press 3/4 to select [Macro Zoom] and then press [MENU/SET]. •The image quality is poorer than during normal recording. •Zoom range will be displayed in blue. (Digital zoom range)•[ ] is displayed when using Macro Zoom. (DMC-FZ200) (DMC-FZ60) Set the focus selector switch to [AF#]. •In AF Macro Mode, [#] is displayed. 1Press [AF/AF #/MF] to display the focus setting screen. 2 Press 3/4 to select [AF Macro] and then press [MENU/SET]. • In AF Macro Mode, [ #] is displayed. •Select [AF] to cancel. - 98 - Recording Note •We recommend using a tripod and the Self-timer.•We recommend setting the flash to [Œ ] (close the flash) when you take pictures at close range.•If the distance between the camera and the subject is beyond the focus range of the camera, the picture may not be properly focused even if the focus indication lights. •When a subject is close to the camera, the effective focus range is significantly narrowed. Therefore, if the distance between the camera and the subject is changed after focusing on the subject, it may become difficult to focus on it again. •Macro Mode gives priority to a subject close to the camera. Therefore, if the distance between the camera and the subject is far, it takes longer to focus on it. •When you take pictures at close range, the resolu tion of the periphery of the picture may decrease slightly. This is not a malfunction. •If the lens becomes dirty with fingerprints or dust, the lens may not be able to focus on the subject correctly. •It is not possible to set AF Macro Mode in the following cases. –In all Scene Modes except [3D Photo Mode] (DMC-FZ60) •It is not possible to set [Macro Zoom] in the following cases. –Scene Mode–[Miniature Effect] (Creative Control Mode)–When [ ] in [AF Mode] is set –When [Conversion] is set

- 99 - Recording Taking Pictures with Manual Focus Applicable modes: Use this function when you want to fix the focus or when the distance between the lens and the subject is determined and you do not want to activate Auto Focus. 1Set the Manual Focus. •When shooting in Manual Focus, [MF] is displayed on the screen. 2Press the rear dial to set [MF] to a selected state. •Enabled operation will switch every time the rear dial is pressed. 3Rotate the rear dial to display focus range on the screen. 4Press 2/1 or rotate the rear dial to focus on the subject. •Using the cursor button is recommended when making slight adjustments. •When you stop operating the focus adjustment, the focus range will disappear after a few seconds. (DMC-FZ200) Set the focus selector switch to [MF]. (DMC-FZ60) 1 Press [AF/AF #/MF] to display the focus setting screen. 2 Press 3/4 to select [MF] and then press [MENU/SET]. • Select [AF] to cancel. - 100 - Recording ∫MF Assist If [MF Assist] (P62) in the [Setup] menu is set to [ON], when focus is achieved, the MF area (locations that are in focus) is enlarged. • If you press [MENU/SET] while MF Assist is displayed, the MF area can be moved using 3/ 4/2 /1. Pressing [MENU/SET] again returns the camera to MF Assist. •Performing the following operation returns the MF area to the center.–Changing the picture size or aspect. –Turning the camera off (including Sleep Mode). (DMC-FZ200) ∫ Focus setting with the side lever • Set the focus selector switch to [MF]. 1Set the [Side Lever] on the [Setup] menu to [FOCUS].
