STOCKAGE
REMISAGE HIVERNAL
Vider le réservoir à essence. Mettre le moteur en 
marche et le laisser tourner jusquà ce quil sarrête 
de luimême. La même essence ne doit pas rester 
plus dun mois dans le réservoir.
Soulever la tondeuse et dévisser la bougie. Verser 
une cuillerée à bouche dhuile à moteur dans le cy-
lindre. Tirer la poignée de démarrage lentement, de 
façon que lhuile se répartisse dans le cylindre. Re-
visser la bougie.
Nettoyer la tondeuse bien et la remiser en un en-
droit sec.

SYMBOLEN
De volgende symbolen staan op de machine om u 
eraan te herinneren dat voorzichtigheid en oplet-
tendheid bij gebruik vereist zijn.
De symbolen betekenen:
Waarschuwing! Lees vóór gebruik van de 
machine eerst het instructieboek en de vei-
ligheidsvoorschriften.
Waarschuwing! Houd omstanders op af-
stand. Pas op voor het uitwerpen van voor-
werpen.
Waarschuwing! Steek uw hand of voet niet 
onder de kap als de machine loopt.
Waarschuwing! Vóór het verrichten van 
reparaties eerst de bougiekabel losmaken 
van de bougie.
BELANGRIJK
Sommige modellen hebben geen gashendel. Het 
toerental van de motor is zodanig ingesteld dat de 
motor optimaal draait en de uitstoot van uitlaatgas-
sen minimaal is.
MONTAGE
UITWERPSCHERM
U mag de machine nooit starten als het 
uitwerpscherm niet gemonteerd is. Als 
het uitwerpscherm niet gemonteerd is 
kunnen stenen en andere losse voorwer-
pen weggeslingerd worden door het ro-
terende mes.
Monteer uitwerpscherm met twee moeren in de 
openingen in het chassis. Haal de moeren goed aan 
(afb. 1).
STUUR
Klap het bovenste gedeelte van het stuur omhoog 
en haal de vergrendelknoppen aan. De hoogte van 
het stuur is verstelbaar in 3 posities (afb. 2).
GEBRUIK VAN DE MACHINE
VOOR HET STARTEN
VUL HET CARTER MET OLIE
De grasmaaier wordt geleverd zonder 
olie in het motorcarter. Het carter moet 
met olie worden gevuld voor de motor 
de eerste keer wordt gestart.
Verwijder de oliepeilstok (afb. 3,4). Vul het carter 
van de motor met 0,6 liter olie van goede kwaliteit 
(serviceklas SE, SF of SG). Gebruik SAE 30 of 
SAE 10W-30 olie.
Vul olie bij tot de olie tot aan de markering 
“FULL/MAX” op de oliepeilstok komt. Doe er 
niet te veel olie in.
CONTROLEER HET OLIEPEIL
Controleer voor gebruik op de oliepeilstok of het 
oliepeil tussen “FULL/MAX” en “ADD/MIN” 
staat. De maaier moet horizontaal staan.
Maak oliepeilstok los (afb. 3,4) en droog hem af. 
Stop de stok er weer helemaal in en schroef hem 
vast en trek hem er weer uit. Lees het oliepeil af. 
Als het peil te laag is, vul dan olie bij tot de 
“FULL/MAX”-aanduiding.
VUL DE BENZINETANK
Vul benzine bij voor u de motor start. 
Verwijder nooit de vuldop of vul nooit 
benzine bij wanneer de motor draait of 
nog warm is.
De benzinetank nooit geheel vullen. Laat altijd wat 
ruimte voor de benzine om te expanderen.
Gebruik altijd zuivere loodvrije benzine. U mag 
geen met olie gemengde tweetaktbenzine gebrui-
ken.
N.B.! Vergeet niet dat benzine oud kan worden. 
Koop slechts benzine voor maximum 30 dagen.
MOTOR STARTEN
Houd handen en voeten uit de buurt van 
het/de roterende mes(sen). Steek uw 
handen of voeten nooit onder de machi-
ne of in de uitwerpopening wanneer de 
motor draait.
1. Zet de grasmaaier op een vlakke en vaste onder-
grond. Start niet in hoog gras.

2. Zorg ervoor dat de bougiekabel aangesloten is 
op de bougie.
3. Als de maaimachine is voorzien van een 
gashendel, zet gashendel N dan in de stand vol 
gas   (afb. 7).
4. Koude motor starten: druk de pompballon (de 
Primer) 3 keer goed in (afb. 5,6).
Als men een warme motor start, hoeft men de 
pompballon (de Primer) niet in te drukken. Als 
de motor gestopt is door gebrek aan brandstof, 
vul dan nieuwe brandstof bij en druk de pomp- 
ballon 3 keer in.
5. Druk de Start/Stop-beugel H tegen het stuur. 
N. B.! De Start/Stop-beugel H moet ingedrukt 
gehouden worden opdat de motor niet zou stop-
pen (afb. 7).
6a Manueel starten: Grijp het starthandvat beet en 
start de motor door een snelle ruk aan het start-
snoer.
6b Elektrisch starten: Start de motor door de start-
sleutel met de klok mee te draaien. Laat de sleu-
tel los wanneer de motor start. Doe altijd korte 
startpogingen zodat de accu niet leegloopt.
7. Voor een zo goed mogelijk maairesultaat, moet 
de motor altijd draaien op volle toeren.
AANDRIJVING IN-/UITSCHAKELEN
Schakel de aandrijving in door de koppelingsbeu-
gel I tegen het stuur te drukken. Schakel de aan-
drijving uit door de koppelingsbeugel I los te laten 
(fig. 7).
Door het stuur omlaag te drukken, zodat de ann-
drijfwielen de grond niet meer aanraken, kunt U 
keren, achteruit rijden en rond struiken maneuvre-
ren zonder de aandrijving uit te schakelen.
MOTOR STOPPEN
Na het maaien is de motor erg warm. 
Raak de geluiddemper, de cylinders of 
de koelribben niet aan. Anders kunt u 
brandwonden oplopen.
1. Laat de Start/Stop-beugel H los om de motor te 
stoppen (afb. 7). Deze beugel mag niet buiten 
werking gesteld worden (b.v. door hem in inge-
drukte stand tegen het stuur te vergrendelen), 
omdat de motor dan niet kan stoppen.2. Als u de grasmaaier onbeheerd achterlaat, moet 
u de bougiekabel losmaken van de bougie.
Tu r b o  5 1  S E :  Neem ook de sleutel uit het 
startslot.
Indien de start-/stopbeugel niet langer 
functioneert, moet u de motor afzetten 
door de bougiekabel los te nemen van de 
bougie. Breng de maaier direct voor re-
paratie naar een erkende werkplaats.
MAAIHOGTE
Schakel de motor uit voor u maaihoogte 
instelt.
Stel de maaihoogte niet zo laag in dat het 
mes/de messen in contact komen met on-
effenheden op de grond.
Maai liefst niet als het gras nat is. Het gras blijft 
dan makkelijker in de kap zitten en het resultaat 
wordt slechter.
De maaimachine heeft slechts één hefboom voor 
het instellen van de maaihoogte. Trek de hefboom 
naar buiten en stel de maaihoogte op één van de 8 
standen, die het best voor Uw gazon past (afb. 8).
ONDERHOUD
De motor moet altijd eerst uigeschakeld 
worden en de bogiekabel moet altijd 
eerst gedemonteerd worden voor men 
service uitvoert op de motor of op de 
maaimachine.
Schakel de motor uit en demonteer de 
bougiekabel voor u de grasmaaier optilt 
om hem te transporteren.
Als de machine scheef gehouden wordt 
moet de brandstoftank leeg zijn en de 
bougie omhoog gehouden worden.
SCHOONMAKEN
Na gebruik moet de maaimachine iedere keer 
schoongemaakt worden. Vooral de onderkant van 
de kap is belangrijk. Met de tuinslang schoonspoe-
len. Dan blijft de maaimachine langer goed en 
werkt beter.
N.B.! U mag geen hogedrukreiniger gebruiken. 
Als het gras vastgedroogd is, kunt u de maaikap 
schoonschrapen. Werk indien nodig de onderkant 
bij met lak om roestbeschadigingen te voorkomen.

Maak de geluiddemper en de directe 
omgeving regelmatig schoon en verwij-
der gras, vuil en brandbaar materiaal.
N.B.! 1 à 2 keer per jaar moet u schoonmaken on-
der de transmissiekap. Stel de laagste maaihoogte 
in. Maak de schroeven los en demonteer de trans-
missiekap (afb. 9). Maak schoon met een borstel of 
met luchtdruk.
De aandrijfwielen moeten één keer per seizoen in-
wendig worden schoongemaakt. Demonteer de 
naafdop, de schroef, de onderlegring en het wiel. 
Borstel of blaas het tandwiel en de tandkrans 
schoon zodat er geen gras en vuil meer op zit (afb. 
10). Monteer het wiel terug op zijn plaats.
ACCU (Tornado 51 SE)
Het electrolyt in de accu is giftig en bij-
tend, en kan zware brandwonden ver-
oorzaken. Zorg dat het niet in contact 
komt met uw huid, ogen en kleren.
Bij normaal gebruik, in vol seizoen, wordt de accu 
opgeladen door de motor. Als de motor niet gestart 
kan worden met de startsleutel, kan dit te wijten 
zijn aan het feit dat de accu leeg is. Sluit de accu-
lader aan op het aansluitingscontact van de accu en 
laad gedurende 24 u (afb. 17). Sluit na het laden 
het aansluitcontact van de accu aan op het aansluit-
contact van de motor.
N.B.! De acculader mag niet direct op het aansluit-
contact van de motor worden aangesloten. De mo-
tor kan niet gestart worden met de lader als 
stroombron, en de lader kan beschadigd raken.
OPBERGEN TIJDENS HET 
WINTERSEIZOEN
Berg de maaier, met de goed opgeladen accu ge-
monteerd, op een droge en koele plaats op (tussen 
0° C en +15° C). Om de conditie van de accu niet 
te verslechteren, moet ze minstens één keer wor-
den opgeladen tijdens de opbergperiode.Voor het 
begin van de nieuwe maaiseizoen moet de accu op-
nieuw worden opgeladen gedurende 24 uur.
KOELSYSTEEM
Voor elk gebruik moet het koelsysteem van de mo-
tor schoongemaakt worden. Verwijder eventuele 
grasresten, vuil e.d. van de koelflenzen van de ci-linder en van de luchtinlaat.
SMEREN
Stel de laagste maaihoogte in. Maak de schroeven 
los en demonteer de transmissiekap (afb 9). Smeer 
de de aandrijfas bij de plastic bussen/glijlagers 
minstens één keer per seizoen met olie/oliespray 
(afb. 11).
OLIE VERVERSEN
Vervang de olie wanneer de motor warm 
is en de benzinetank leeg is. Wees voor-
zichtig wanneer u de olie aftapt, want de 
olie is warm en kan brandwonden ver-
oorzaken.
Vervang de olie de eerste keer na 5 uur rijden, daar-
na om de 50 werkuren of één keer per seizoen. Ver-
wijder de oliepeilstok en laat de olie weglopen in 
een emmer of iets ergelijks. Zorg ervoor dat de olie 
niet in het gras loopt.
Vul nieuwe olie bij: Gebruik SAE 30 of SAE 10W-
30 olie. Het carter heeft een inhoud van 0.6 liter. 
Vul bij tot de olie tot aan de markering FULL/
MAX op de oliepeilstok komt.
LUCHTFILTER
Een vervuilde luchtfilter vermindert de kracht van 
de motor en veroorzaakt slijtage van de motor.
Reinig het filter eens in de drie maanden of na elke 
25 werkuren, al naar gelang wat zich het eerste 
voordoet. Doe dit vaker als de maaier op stoffige 
grond wordt gebruikt.
Briggs & Stratton LS 45: De luchtreiniger voor-
zichtig demonteren, zodat er geen vuil in de carbu-
rateur valt (afb. 12). Het schuimplastic filter eruit 
nemen en in vloeibaar detergent en water wassen. 
Het filter afdrogen. Giet wat olie op het filter en 
knijp het erin. De luchtreiniger weer monteren.
Briggs & Stratton XTE 50: Draai de schroef los 
en klap het deksel voor de luchtreiniger naar bene-
den. Neem voorzichtig het filterinzetstuk uit (afb. 
13). Klop dit uit tegen een plat oppervlak. Vervang 
het filterinzetstuk als het nog steeds vuil is.
BOUGIE
Probeer nooit te ontdekken of er vonken 
zijn door de bougie of de bougiekabel te 
verwijderen. Gebruik een goedgekeurd 
testapparaat.

Maak met regelmatige tussenpozen de bougie 
schoon (iedere 100 bedrijfsuren). Gebruik een 
staalborstel voor het schoonmaken. De electro-
deafstand correct afstellen 0,75 mm (afb. 14).
Verwissel de bougie als de electroden al te veel 
verbrand zijn of als de bougie beschadigd is. De 
motorenfabrikanten geven de volgende aanbeve-
lingen:
Voor Briggs & Stratton-motoren moet men een 
Champion J19LM (RJ19LM) of een andere gelijk-
waardig bougie gebruiken.
KOPPELINGSKABEL BIJSTELLEN
Als de aandrijving niet in- of uitgeschakeld kan 
worden, moet de koppelingskabel bijgesteld wor-
den.
Stel als volgt in:
1. Verwijder de tandwielkast door de schroeven S 
los te nemen (fig. 9).
2. Met de koppelingsbeugel los moet de machine 
zonder weerstand naar achteren getrokken kun-
nen worden. Als dat niet het geval is borgmoer 
U losmaken en nippel T vastschroeven totdat de 
machine naar achteren kan worden gerold 
(fig. 15).
3.Als de koppelingsbeugel ca. 
2 cm is ingedrukt (stand 1), 
moet het moeilijk zijn de ma-
chine naar achteren te trek-
ken. Met de koppelingsbeugel 
geheel ingedrukt (stand 2) 
moet het niet mogelijk zijn de 
machine naar achteren te trek-
ken. Maak borgmoer U los en 
schroef nippel T los totdat 
deze stand bereikt is.
4.Haal tenslotte borgmoer U aan.
VERWISSELEN VAN DE MESSEN
Draag veiligheidshandschoenen wan-
neer u het mes/de messen vervangt, zo-
dat u geen snijwonden oploopt.
Botte en beschadigde messen rukken het gras af en 
de grasmat ziet er lelijk uit na het maaien.Nieuwe 
scherpe messen snijden het gras af. Het ziet er 
groen en fris uit na het maaien.Na een aanrijding moeten het mes/de messen altijd 
gecontrolleerd worden. Verwijder eerst de bou-
giekabel. Als het messensysteem beschadigd is 
moeten de defecte delen verwisseld worden. Ge-
bruik altijd originele onderdelen.
Maak schroef los om het mes te vervangen (afb. 
16). Monteer het nieuwe mes zo dat het gestanste 
STIGA-logo naar boven naar de mesbevestiging 
gericht is (niet naar het gras). Monteer de onder-
legring en de schroef terug op hun plaats. Haal de 
schroef goed aan. Aanhaalmoment 40 Nm. 
Bij het vervangen van een mes moet ook de mes-
bout worden vervangen.
Valt niet onder garantie: schadés veroorzaakt door 
het maaien tegen harde voorwerpen.
Bij het vervangen van messen, meshouders en 
mesbouten altijd originele reserveonderdelen ge-
bruiken. Andere dan originele reserveonderdelen 
kunnen risicos met zich meebrengen, ook al pas-
sen ze op de machine.
HET SLIJPEN VAN MESSEN
Eventuele slijpwerkzaamheden moeten worden 
uitgevoerd op een wet- of slijpsteen (nat slijpen).
Uit veiligheidsoverwegingen mag het mes niet 
worden geslepen op een amarilschijf. Een te hoge 
temperatuur kan het mes broos maken.
Als het mes wordt geslepen moet het na-
derhand uitgebalanceerd worden om 
schade door trillingen te voorkomen.
OPSLAG
WINTERSEIZOEN
Maak de brandstoftank leeg. Start de motor en laat 
hem draaien tot hij stilvalt. Dezelfde benzine mag 
niet meer dan één maand in de tank blijven.
Kantel de motor en draai de bougie eruit. Giet een 
lepel motorolie in het bougiegat. Trek langzaam de 
starthandle uit, zodat de olie zich kan verspreiden 
in de motor. Bougie opnieuw plaatsen.
De maaier grondig reinigen en hem opbergen op 
een droge plaats.

cautions and attention necessary when using the

Warning! Read the Instruction Book and 
Safety Manual before using the machine.
Warning! Keep spectators away. Beware 
of objects being flung out.
Warning! Do not put hands or feet under 
the cover of the machine when it is run-
ning.
Warning! Before starting any repair work, 
remove the spark plug cable from the 
spark plugs.
IMPORTANT
Certain models do not have a throttle. The motor 
speed is set for optimal function and minimal ex-
haust emissions.
ASSEMBLING
EJECTION SHIELD
Under no condition must the machine be 
started without the ejection shield being 
fitted on the machine. If it is not fitted, 
stones and other flying objects may eas-
ily be ejected by the rotating blade.
Fit the ejection shield in the holes on the chassis 
with the help of two nuts. Tighten the nuts fully 
(fig. 1).
HANDLEBAR
Move the upper part of the steering handle up-
wards and tighten the locking knobs (fig. 2). The 
height of the handle can be adjusted in three differ-
ent positions.
USING THE MOWER
BEFORE STARTING
FILL THE CRANKCASE WITH OIL
The lawn mower is delivered without any 
oil in the motor crankcase. The crank-
case must, therefore, be filled with oil be-
fore the motor is started the first time.
Remove the oil dipstick (fig. 3,4). Fill the engines 
crankcase with 0.6 litres of good quality oil (serv-
ice class SE, SF or SG) Use SAE 30 or SAE 10W-
30 oil.
Fill until the oil reaches the “FULL/MAX” mark 
on the dip stick. Do not fill with too much oil.
CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL
Check before using the machine that the oil level is 
between “FULL/MAX” and “ADD/MIN” on the 
dipstick.
Remove and dry the dipstick (fig. 3,4). Slide it 
down completely and tighten it. Unscrew and pull 
it up again. Read-off. If the oil level is low, fill with 
oil up to the “FULL/MAX” mark.
FILL UP THE PETROL TANK
Fill with petrol before starting the mo-
tor. Never remove the filler cap or fill 
with petrol while the motor is running 
or still warm.
Never fill the fuel tank completely full but allow a 
little room for the petrol to expand.
Always use pure unleaded petrol. You must never 
use 2-stroke petrol mixed with oil.
Note that you should always remember that petrol 
is a perishable commodity. Never buy more petrol 
than what you can use up in 30 days.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Keep hands and feet well away from the 
rotating blade(s). Never put your hand 
or foot under the blade casing or in the 
grass evacuation unit while the motor is 
running.
1. Place the lawn mower on flat, firm ground. Do 
not start in high grass.
2. Make sure the spark plug lead is connected to 
the spark plug.

3. If the lawnmower is equipped with a throttle le-
ver, set throttle lever N in full throttle position 
 (fig. 7).
4. When starting a cold engine: Press down the 
primer fully three times (fig. 5,6).
When starting a warm engine the primer does 
not need to be used. If the engine stops due toa 
lack of petrol, refill and press down the primer 
3 times.
5. Press in the Start/Stop-loop H against the steer-
ing. Note that the Start/Stop loop H must be 
kept pressed-in to prevent the engine from stop-
ping (fig. 7).
6a Manual starting: Grasp the starter handle and 
start the engine by pulling briskly on the starter 
handle.
6b  Electric starting facility (*): Start the engine by 
turning the starter key clock-wise. Release the 
key as soon as the engine starts. Always make 
short attempts at starting to prevent discharging 
the battery.
7. To achieve the best cutting results, you should 
always run the engine at full-speed.
IN/ OUT COUPLING OF THE DRIVE
Engage the drive by pressing coupling clamp I 
against the steering handle. Disengage the drive by 
releasing coupling clamp I (fig. 7).
By pressing down the handlebar so that the driving 
wheels release their grip on the ground, turning, re-
versing, moving round trees etc. can be done with-
out having to disengage the drive system.
STOP OF ENGINE
The motor may be very warm immedi-
ately after it is shut off. Do not touch the 
silencer, cylinder or cooling flanges as it 
can cause burns and injury.
1. Release Start/Stop-loop H to stop the engine 
(fig. 7). This loop must not be disengaged (e.g. 
through fixing it in the depressed position 
against the steering), as the engine cannot be 
stopped.
2. If the lawn mower is left unattended to, remove 
the lead from the spark plug.
Tornado 51 SE: Remove the starter key.If the start/stop loop no longer works, 
stop the engine by removing the lead 
from the spark plug. Immediately take 
the lawn mower to an authorised work-
shop for repairs.
CUTTING HEIGHT
Shut off the motor before adjusting the 
cutting height.
Do not set the cutting height so low that 
the blade/blades can hit uneven ground.
Avoid mowing when the grass is wet. The grass 
then sticks to the underside of the casing, giving 
poor mowing results.
The mower is fitted with a single lever control for 
adjusting the cutting height. Pull the lever out-
wards and adjust the cutting height on one of the 8 
positions to be most suitable for your lawn (fig. 8).
MAINTENANCE
No service is to be made on the motor or 
grass cutter unit without first switching 
off the motor and removing the spark 
plug cable from the spark plug.
Stop the motor and remove the spark 
plug cable if the mower is to be lifted, 
e.g. with transportation.
If the machine is to be tilted the fuel tank 
must be emptied and the sparking plug 
of the engine kept upwards.
CLEANING
After each time it is used the mower should be 
cleaned. This is particularly important on the un-
derside of the mower casing. Wash out with the 
garden hose. The mower will then last longer and 
function better.
Note! High pressure washing units should not be 
used. If grass has dried on to the cutterhead casing 
it can be removed by scraping. If necessary, give 
the underside a touch of paint to prevent rusting.
Clean the silencer and the surrounding 
area regularly to remove grass, dirt and 
flammable waste products.

Note that you should clean the area under the tim-
ing gear casing once or twice a year. Set at the low-
est mowing height. Slacken the screws and remove 
the timing gear casing (fig. 9). Clean with a brush 
or compressed air.
The inside of the drive wheels should be cleaned 
once a season. To clean a wheel, remove the hub 
cap, screw, washer, and wheels. Brush or blow the 
gear and the gear ring on the wheel to clean them 
from grass and dirt (fig. 10). Remount the wheel. 
BATTERY (Tornado 51 SE)
Electrolyte in the battery is toxic and 
corrosive. It can cause serious corrosion 
damage etc. Avoid all contact with skin, 
eyes and clothing.
In normal use during the season, the battery is 
charged by the engine. If the engine cannot be start-
ed with the starter key, it may be because the battery 
is dead. Connect the battery charger to the terminal 
on the battery and put on charge for 24 hours (fig. 
17). On completion of charging, connect the battery 
terminal to the terminal on the motor.
Note! The battery charger must not be connected to 
the engine terminal. The engine cannot be started 
by using the charger as a source of power supply, 
and the charger will be damaged.
WINTER STORAGE
Store the lawn mower for the winter with the bat-
tery well-charged in a dry and cool place (between 
0° C and +15° C). At least once during the winter 
storage period the battery should be maintenance-
charged. Before the start of the season the battery 
should be charged once again for 24 hours.
COOLING SYSTEM
Before use, the engines cooling system should be 
cleaned. Clean the cylinders cooling fins and the 
air intake, removing any grass cuttings, dirt and the 
like.
LUBRICATION
Set at the lowest mowing height. Slacken the 
screws and remove the transmission casing (fig. 9). 
Lubricate the driveshaft by the plastic bushings/
slide bearings I with oil or oil spray at least once a 
season (fig. 11).
CHANGING OIL
Replace the oil when the engine is warm 
and the fuel tank is empty. Take care 
while draining as the oil is hot, this is to 
prevent burns.
Change the oil the first time after 5 hours of oper-
ation, and subsequently after every 50 hours of op-
eration or once a season. Remove the oil dipstick 
and allow the oil to run out into a vessel. Be careful 
not to let any oil run on to the grass.
Fill with new oil: use oil of SAE 30 or SAE 10W-
30 quality. The crankcase holds approx. 0.6 litre. 
Fill until the oil reaches the “FULL/MAX” mark 
on the dip stick.
AIR FILTER
A dirty and blocked air filter reduces the engine 
output and increases engine wear.
Clean the filter every three months or after every 
25 hours of use, which ever occurs first. More of-
ten if the lawn mower is used on dusty ground.
Briggs & Stratton LS45: Carefully remove the air 
cleaner so that no dirt falls down into the carburet-
tor (fig. 12). Take out the foam plastic filter ele-
ment and wash it in liquid detergent and water. Dry 
the filter element. Pour a little oil on the filter ele-
ment and squeeze it in. Refit the air cleaner.
Briggs & Stratton XTE50: Loosen the screw and 
fold down the cover of the air cleaner. Carefully re-
move the filter cartridge (fig. 13). Knock it against 
a flat surface. Replace the filter cartridge with a 
new one if it is still dirty.
SPARKING PLUG
Never remove the spark plug or the igni-
tion lead when checking to see if there is 
any spark, always use an approved test 
instrument.
Clean the sparking plug regularly (every 100 hours 
running). Use a wire brush for cleaning and adjust 
the correct spark gap 0,75 mm (fig. 14).
Change the sparking plug if the electrodes are ex-
cessively burnt or if the plug is damaged. The rec-
ommendations of the engine manufacturers are as 
follows:
Champion J19LM (RJ19LM) or another equiva-
lent spark plug ought to be used in Briggs & Strat-
ton engines.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE CLUTCH WIRE
If the drive cannot be engaged or disengaged, it 
may be that the clutch wire needs adjusting.
Adjust as follows:
1. Remove the transmission cover by unscrewing 
the screws S (fig. 9).
2. When the clutch loop is released it should be 
possible to pull the mower backwards without 
any resistance. If this is not the case, loosen the 
locking nut U and screw in the nipple T until the 
mower can be moved backwards (fig. 15).
3. When the clutch loop is 
pressed in approx. 2 cm (posi-
tion 1) there should be some 
resistance when moving the 
mower backwards. With the 
clutch loop fully pressed in 
(position 2) it should not be 
possible to pull the mower 
backwards. Loosen the lock-
ing nut U and screw out the 
nipple T until this position is 
achieved.
4. Finally tighten the locking nut U.
CHANGING BLADES
Use protective gloves to prevent cuts 
when changing blades/knifeblades.
Blunt and damaged blades tear off the grass and 
spoil the look of the lawn after mowing.New, well 
sharpened blades cut the grass cleanly, so that the 
lawn looks green and fresh even after mowing.
Always check the blade after an impact. First dis-
connect the ignition cable. If the blade system has 
been damaged the defective parts must be 
changed. Always use genuine spare parts.
To replace the blade, slacken the screw (fig. 16). 
Fit the new blade so that the stamped STIGA log-
otype is turned facing the blade attachment (and 
not facing the grass). Refit the washer and screw. 
Tighten the screw fully to a torque of 40 Nm.
When replacing the blade, the blade screw should 
also be replaced.
The guarantee does not cover damage to the blade, 
blade holder or engine caused by running into ob-
stacles.When replacing the blade, the blade holder and 
blade screw, always use original spare parts. Non-
authentic spare parts could lead to the risk of per-
sonal injury or damage, even if they fit the machine.
SHARPENING OF THE BLADES
Sharpening of the blades must be done by wet 
method grinding, using a whetstone or a grind-
stone.
For the sake of safety, the blades should not be 
sharpened on an emery wheel. A very high temper-
ature could cause the blade to become brittle.
Once the blade has been sharpened, it 
must then be balanced so as to avoid vi-
bration damage.
STORAGE
WINTER STORAGE
Empty the fuel tank. Start the engine and let it run 
until it stops. The same petrol must not remain in 
the tank for more than one month.
Tip up the mower and screw out the sparking plug. 
Pour a teaspoon of engine oil in the sparking plug 
hole. Pull out the starting handle slowly so that the 
oil is distributed in the cylinder. Screw in the 
sparking plug.
Thoroughly clean the mower and store it indoors in 
a dry place.

máquina esté en funcionamiento.
¡Advertencia! Antes de comenzar cual-
quier trabajo de reparación, desconecte el 
cable de la bujía.
IMPORTANTE
Algunos modelos no tienen acelerador. El régimen 
de revoluciones del motor está regulado para un 
funcionamiento óptimo y una emisión mínima de 
gases residuales.
MONTAJE
PANTALLA EXTRACTORA
En ningún caso deberá arrancarse la 
máquina sin tener montado el deflector 
de expulsión. Si éste no está montado, la 
cuchilla puede proyectar al exterior con 
gran fuerza piedras y otros objetos suel-
tos.
Montar la pantalla extractora en los orificios del 
chasis con dos tuercas. Apretar estas bien fuerte 
(fig. 1).
MANILLAR
Levantar la parte superior del manillar y apretar los 
botones de fijación. La altura del manillar puede fi-
jarse en 3 posiciones (fig. 2).
USO DE LA MAQUINA
ANTES DEL ARRANQEU
LLENE EL CARTER CON ACEITE
El cortacéspedes se entrega con el cárter 
del motor vacío, por que habrá de lle-
narse con aceeite antes de arrancar por 
primera vez el motor.
Extraiga la varilla de medición (fig. 3,4).Llenar el 
cárter del motor con 0,6 litros de aceite de buena 
calidad (clase de servicio SE, SF o SG). Utilizar 
aceites SAE 30 o SAE 10W-30.
Llene hasta que el aceite llegue a la marca “FULL/
MAX” de la varilla. No llene demasiado.
CONTROLAR EL NIVEL DE ACEITE
Antes de cada uso controlar que el nivel de aceite 
se halla entre las marcas “FULL/MAX” y “ADD/
MIN” de la varilla de nivel. La cortadora tiene que 
estar sobre suelo plano.
Quitar y secar la varilla (fig. 3,4). Introducirla des-
pués completamente enroscándola. A continua-
ción, sacarla otra vez y observar el nivel. Si éste es 
demasiado bajo, reponer hasta la marca “FULL/
MAX”.
LLENE EL DEPOSITO DE GASOLINA
Poner el combustible antes de arrancar 
el motor. No quitar la tapa del depósito 
ni cargar gasolina cuando el motor está 
en marcha o sigue caliente.
Nunca llene completamente el depósito. Deje un 
pequeño espacio para expansión.
Utilice siempre gasolina sin plomo. No hay que uti-
lizar gasolina de dos tiempos con mezcla de aceite.
Nota: Piense que la gasolina envejece, por lo que 
no debe comprar más de la que puede consumir du-
rante 30 días.
ARRANQUE DEL MOTOR
Mantener manos y pies lejos de cuchillas 
en rotación. No introducir nunca manos 
o pies debajo de la cubierta de las cuchi-
llas ni en el orificio de expulsión de la 
hierba cuando está en marcha el motor.
1. Ponga la máquina sobre suelo llano y firme. No 
la arranque en lugares donde hay hierba alta.
