Replacing the Starter Rope
Models with ElastoStart
NPry the cap (10) out of the grip.
NRemove the remaining rope from 
the rotor and starter grip.
NThread the new rope through the 
starter grip and tie a simple 
overhand knot. Dimension "a" 
should be about 0.16 in (4 mm) to 
0.23 in (7 mm).
NPull the knot back into the grip.
NRefit the cap in the grip.Thread the end of the rope

Installing the Rope Rotor
Standard versions
NCoat the rope rotor bearing bore 
with non-resinous oil.
NSlip the rotor over the starter post – 
turn it back and forth to engage the 
anchor loop of the rewind spring.
NRefit the pawl (9) in the rotor.
NFit the washer (8) on the starter 
post.
NUse a screwdriver or suitable pliers 
to install the spring clip (7) on the 
starter post and engage it on the 
pawl's peg – the spring clip must...

When the starter rope is fully extended it 
must still be possible to rotate the rotor 
another half turn. If this is not the case, 
the spring is overtensioned and could 
break.
NTake one turn of the rope off the 
rotor.
Versions with Easy2Start
NFit the spring housing, driver and 
washer on the starter post. 
NUse circlip pliers to carefully install 
the circlip in the starter post groove.

sharpened saw chain
A properly sharpened saw chain cuts 
through wood effortlessly even with very 
little pushing.
Never use a dull or damaged saw chain 
– this leads to increased physical strain, 
increased vibration load, unsatisfactory 
cutting results and increased wear.

File holder
NUse a file holder
Always use a file holder (special 
accessory, see table "Sharpening tools") 
when sharpening saw chains by hand. 
File holders have markings for the 
sharpening angle.
Use only special saw chain files! Other 
files are unsuitable in terms of shape 
and type of cutting.

The following maintenance intervals apply for normal operating conditions only. If your daily working 
time is longer or operating conditions are difficult (very dusty work area, resin-rich wood, tropical 
wood, etc.), shorten the specified intervals accordingly. If you only use the saw occasionally, extend
