4 – Playback operations
The following operations explain how to play back 
discs. If an operation can be performed on only one 
of the drives, this will be shown in the heading for 
this operation, for example “(drive 1 only)”.
The CD-RW402 can be used to play back CDs 
(including CD-R and CD-RW discs that have been 
recorded and finalized on other types of recorder), as well as CD-R discs and CD-RW discs that have been 
recorded on the unit.

Track skip
Use the MULTI DIAL (or the track skip keys on the 
remote control unit) to jump forward or backward by 
one track at a time, as shown on the display.
Note that going forward from the last track of the 
disc will “wrap round” to track 1, and going back-
ward from the first track of the disc will “wrap 
round” to the last track of the disc.

Searching inside tracks
Using the main unit While in play or play ready 
mode, pressing and holding the search keys on the 
main unit will move the playback position forwards 
or backwards by a small amount.
Pressing and releasing the keys will move the play-
back position backwards and forwards by one minute 
at a time.Using the remote control unit The track skip 
keys on the remote control unit can be used for small...

SHUFFLE (random track order). In this mode, each 
track is played once before the disc repeats. Using 
the track skip functions will move backwards or 
forwards through the random order, e.g. if track 7 is 
followed by track 10, it is possible to use the track 
skip keys to go back to track 7, which is remem-
bered as being before immediately before track 10.

Setting the pitch value (ii) To set the pitch 
value from the remote control unit:

PITCH + or – keys on the 
remote control unit when drive 1 is not in

Combining tracks
This allows the combination of a track with the track 
immediately before it. It cannot therefore be used 
when the playback position is anywhere in the first 
track, as there is no previous track (the display shows 
POINT ERROR! if you attempt this).

Redefining the end point
It may be useful to end the playback of a track at a 
different point from the one marked by the track 
boundary (avoiding a messy ending, or sound 
recorded after the end of the take, etc.).
1Set the point at which the new start point is 
to occur. You may find that the jog function is

5 – Recording
Before you start recording using the CD-RW402, 
make sure that you understand the following key 
points:
Once you have recorded on a CD-R disc, the data 
cannot be erased from it.
You can add tracks to an unfinalized recordable 
disc. Once finalized, a CD-R disc is “fixed” and 
behaves in the same way as a pre-recorded disc. Finalized CD-RW discs, however, can be erased, 
refreshed and re-recorded.
