    Trou\fleshooting
    This	message	appears	when	the	paper	size	loaded	in	the	paper	cassette	or	multi-purpose	tray	(manual	feed	slot)	does	not	match	
    the	size	specified	in	,	,	or		in	the		menu.	When	this	message	appears,	
    follow	the	steps	in	the	procedure	\felow.
    	Cassette	2	(optional)	can	\fe	used	only	for	MF8380Cdw.
     NOTE
    Ignore the \fessage and p\Rroceed to print
    You can \brint on \ba\ber currently set in the \ba\I\ber cassette or multi-\bur\bose tray (manual feed slot) if you \bress [OK] to ignore the message. Note that 
    this may cause unex\bected \brint results, for exam\ble, a \bart of the image may not be \brinted at all.
    Changing the paper size in the  \fenu to \fatch the size loaded in the pa\Rper cassette or 
    \fulti-purpose tray (\fanual feed slot)
    Cancel	the	jo\f	and	refer	to	 “For	the	Paper	Cassette”	(→P.2-18),	to	change	the	paper	size	in		menu.
     IMPORT\bNT 
    When printing fro\f the printer driver
    Make sure that the \ba\ber si\Ize s\becified in the \I\brinter driver also matches the size loaded in the \ba\be\Ir cassette or multi-\bur\bose tray (manual feed 
    slot).
    Loading the paper size specified in the  \fenu
    See “Loading Pa\ber” (→P.2-9) and load the \Isize s\becified in the \I menu.
    Printing fro\f the \fulti-purpose tray/\fanual feed slot
    When		is	set	to		for	the	multi-purpose	tray	(manual	feed	slot),	load	paper	in	the	multi-purpose	tray	
    (manual	feed	slot),	and	then	specify	the	size	of	the	loaded	paper	correctly.

    If	a	pro\flem	occurs	while	the	machine	is	in	use,	try	the	actions	suggested	in	this	section	\fefore	contacting	technical	support
    Check the Following First
    Is the power switched ON?
    Make	sure	that	the	power	cord	is	securely	plugged	into	the	machine	and	into	the	wall	outlet.
    Make	sure	that	electricity	is	supplied	from	the	power	cord.
    \bse	another	power	cord	or	check	to	see	if	the	cord	is	\froken	using	a	voltmeter.
    Turn	ON	the	power	switch.If	this	works,	proceed	to	
    	“Has	the	power	switch	\feen	just	turned	ON?”
    Has the power switch been just turned ON\R?
    Wait	a	few	moments	until	the	machine	starts	and	warms	up.
    If	this	works
    Is the \fachine in th\Re sleep \fode?
    Press	[]	(Energy	Saver)	on	the	operation	panel	to	return	from	the	sleep	mode.
    If	this	works
    \bre the settings properly configured?
    If	the	machine	makes	the	error	sound	and	does	not	start	operating	even	after	[]	(Color)	or	[]	(B&W )	has	\feen	pressed,	
    the	settings	may	not	have	\feen	configured	properly.	Check	the	configured	settings.
    Is the Error indicator on or blinking?
    Make	sure	that	paper	is	loaded	properly	in	the	paper	cassette	or	multi-purpose	tray	(manual	feed	slot).
    	 “Loading	Paper” 	(→P.2-9)
    Check	to	see	if	there	is	a	jam	somewhere	inside	the	machine.
    	“Clearing	Jams” 	(→P.9-2)
    Turn	OFF	the	power	switch,	wait	10	seconds,	and	turn	it	\fack	ON.
    After	the	pro\flem	has	\feen	solved,	the	Error	indicator	goes	out	and	the	screen	returns	to	the	stand\fy	mode.	If	the	Error	
    indicator	keeps	\flinking,	unplug	the	power	cord	and	contact	your	local	authorized	Canon	dealer	or	the	Canon	help	line.

    Does a \fessage appear on the screen?
    If	an	error	message	appears	on	the	screen,	see	the	following	section	and	try	the	appropriate	action.

    Print	the	transmission	management	report	to	see	if	the	report	shows	any	errors.

    If	this	works
    Is the telephone line connected or configured properly?
    Make	sure	that	the	telephone	ca\fle	is	properly	connected.	Make	sure	that	the	ca\fles	for	the	telephone	line	jack	and	external	
    telephone	jack	on	the	\fack	of	the	machine	are	not	connected	inversely.

    Ca\fle
    Make	sure	that	the	line	type	(dial	or	push)	specified	in	the	menu	matches	the	type	of	line	connected	to	the	machine.
    	 “Select	Line	 Type”	(→P.6-24)
    Make	sure	that	the	telephone	line	is	not	receiving	interference	from	near\fy	devices	such	as	a	microwave	oven.	 This	may	affect	
    the	status	of	the	telephone	line.

    The	machine	cannot	\fe	used	while	the	power	supply	is	cut	off.
    When there is a power failure, you can or cannot perfor\f the following fax operations.•	 You	cannot	send	or	receive	faxes.
    •	 You	may	not	\fe	a\fle	to	make	a	call	using	the	external	telephone,	depending	on	your	telephone	system.
    •	 You	may	\fe	a\fle	to	answer	a	call	using	the	external	telephone,	depending	on	your	telephone	system.

    If the \bower is lost due to a \bower failure or the \bower cord is accidentally un\I\blugged, data can be stored in memory for a\b\broximately five minutes 
    so you can back it u\b.
     NOTE
    Charging the built-in \Rbattery
    It takes a\b\broximately five hours to com\bletely charge the built-in battery after the machine is \Iturned ON.
    If the built-in battery is not charged enough, data ma\Iy not be saved \bro\berly in the memory.

    Try	one	of	the	following	to	solve	the	pro\flem.

    Solution 1
    Make	sure	that	the	num\fer	of	sheets	or	the	paper	type	loaded	in	the	paper	cassette	or	multi-purpose	tray	(manual	feed

     The paper stack is not lo\Raded correctly.

    Toner S\fudges and Sp\Ratters \bppear around Text and I\fages
    Perform	following	procedure.
     The paper type loaded is not ap\Rpropriate.
    Solution
    Make	sure	that	the	num\fer	of	sheets	or	the	paper	type	loaded	in	the	paper	cassette	or	multi-purpose	tray	(manual	feed	
    slot)	meets	the	paper	specifications.
    	“Supported	Paper	 Types”	(→P.2-6)
    The Botto\f Edge of Paper or Following Paper Has S\fudge Marks
    Perform	following	procedure.
     \b docu\fent with no \fargins was printed.
    Solution 1Data	is	printed	with	a	margin	of	1/4"	(5	mm)	(3/8"	(10	mm)	for	envelopes).	Provide	a	margin	around	the	data.	“Printa\fle	Area” 	(→P.2-8)
    Solution 2
    Perform	the	following	procedure	in	the	printer	driver.
    1.	Display	the	[Finishing]	sheet.
    2.	Click	[Advanced	Setting].
    3.	Set	[Expand	Print	Region	and	Print]	to	[Off ].
    Printing Is Faded

    Perform	following	procedure.
     The toner cartridges have reached the end of \Rtheir life.
    Solution
    Check	the	toner	cartridges	status	and	replace	the	toner	cartridges	of	the	colors	that	have	reached	the
    end	of	their	life.

    Data Is Printed Diagonally
    Try	one	of	the	following	to	solve	the	pro\flem.
     Printed on curled paper.
    Solution Flatten	curls	and	print	again.
     The positions of the pa\Rper guides does not fit to paper.
    Solution 
    Align	the	paper	guides	securely	against	the	edges	of	the	paper.	If	the	paper	guides	are	too	loose	or	too	tight,	paper
    is	not	fed	properly.
     Printing fro\f the \fulti-purpose tray (\fanual feed slot)
    Solution Load	paper	in	the	paper	cassette.
    \b Portion of the Page Is Not Printed
    Perform	one	of	the	following	solutions	according	to	the	cause.
     \b docu\fent with no \fargins was printed.
    Solution 1Data	is	printed	with	a	margin	of	1/4"	(5	mm)	(3/8"	(10	mm)	for	envelopes).	Provide	a	margin	around	the	data.	“Printa\fle	Area” 	(→P.2-8)
