    WhenaddingDIMMs,youmustuseaminimumoffourlike-sizedDIMMsinthenextavailable
    quad.IfyouareinstallingDIMMsofdifferentsizes,youmustinstallthelargestDIMMs(most
    memory)inthefirstquad.DIMMsinthesecondquadcanbeequaltoorsmallerthan(less

    TheHP9000rp3410serversupportsDDRSDRAMDIMMswithECCandchipspareprotection.
    Thisserverhas12DIMMslotsandsupportsamaximumof6GBoftotalsystemmemory.Memory
    usageintheservervarieswiththemodeldesignation.
    Intheoriginalserver(modelA7136A),memorycanbeinstalledasoneortwopairsinthefirst
    quad(groupoffour).Thisallowsmemoryconfigurationsoftwo,four,eight,ortwelveDIMMs.
    Inthecurrentserver(modelA7136B),memorymustbeinstalledasquads(groupsoffour).This
    allowsmemoryconfigurationsoffour,eight,ortwelveDIMMs.Thus,theHP9000rp3410server
    mustincludeaminimumof512MB(modelA7136A)or1GB(modelA7136B)andcaninclude
    uptosixGBofmemoryincombinationsof256MB,512MB,and1GBDIMMs.Differentsize
    DIMMscanbeinstalledintheserver,butallfourDIMMsinaquadmustbeidentical.

    TheHP9000rp3440supportsDDRSDRAMDIMMswithECCandchipspareprotection.This

    Memorymustbeinstalledasquads(groupsoffour).Thisallowsmemoryconfigurationsoffour,
    eight,ortwelveDIMMs.Thus,theHP9000rp3440servermustincludeaminimumof1GBand
    canincludeupto24GBofmemoryincombinationsof256MB,512MB,1GB,and2GBDIMMs,
    or32GBofmemoryconsistingofeight4GBDIMMs.DifferentsizeDIMMscanbeinstalledin
    theserver(exceptwhen4GBDIMMsareused),butallfourDIMMsinaquadmustbeidentical.

    Thememorysubsystemsupportschip-sparefunctionality.ChipspareenablesanentireSDRAM

    Inordertousethechipsparefunctionality,onlyDIMMsbuiltwithx4SDRAMpartscanbeused,
    andtheseDIMMsmustbeloadedinquads(twoDIMMspermemorycell,loadedinthesame
    locationineachmemorycell).
    SystemFirmwareRequirements
    Ifyouareusing4GBDIMMsinaHP9000rp3440server,systemfirmwaremustbegreaterthan
    revision44.24.UsetheBCHFVcommand,ortheiLOMPSRcommandtodisplaythesystem
    firmwarerevisionstatus.Ifnecessary,usetheiLOMPSRcommandtoupgradesystemfirmware.

    ToinstallDIMMs,followthesesteps:
    1.Powerofftheserveranddisconnectallthepowerandexternalcables.
    2.Removetheservercover.(See“RemovingandReplacingServerCoversandBezels”
    (page52).)
    3.Removethememoryairflowguide.(See“RemovingtheMemoryAirflowGuide”(page65).)
    CAUTION:Toensurethatmemorymodulesarenotdamagedduringremovalorinstallation,
    powerofftheserverandunplugthepowercordfromtheACpoweroutlet.Waituntilthe
    LEDonthebackofthepowersupplyturnsoffbeforeremovingorinstallingmemory.
    4.LocatetheslotintowhichtheDIMMwillbeinstalled.Holdingthememorymodulebyits
    leftandrightedges,insertthemoduleintothesocketconnector(Figure3-31.)
    NOTE:Thememorymodulesarekeyedandcanonlybeinsertedinonedirection.When
    themoduleiscorrectlyseated,theretainerclipsreturntotheirfullyuprightposition.Snap
    theclipsfirmlyintoplacetoensurethattheDIMMsareseatedproperly.
    5.EvenlypushdownfirmlyoneachendoftheDIMMuntilitseatsinthesocket.Ensurethe
    extractionleversareintheclosedposition.

    HP9000rp3410andrp3440servershavethefour64-bit,133MHzPCI-Xcardsockets.
    WARNING!Ensurethattheserverispoweredoffandallthepowersourceshavebeen
    disconnectedfromtheserverbeforeremovingorreplacingaPCIcard.
    VoltagesarepresentatvariouslocationswithintheserverwheneveranACpowersourceis
    connected.Thisvoltageispresentevenwhenthemainpowerswitchisintheoffposition.
    Failuretoobservethiswarningcanresultinpersonalinjuryordamagetoequipment.

    thefailedpowersupplycanbesafelyremoved.

    includestwoCPUsinasinglemodule,butonlyoneCPUisenabled.ThesecondCPUcanbe
    enabledaspartofaserverupgrade.
    TheHP9000rp3440serversupportstwoprocessorsockets.Eachsocketacceptsonedualprocessor
    modulewhichcontainseithertwo800MHzCPUsortwo1GHzCPUs.
    WARNING!Ensurethattheserverispoweredoffandallthepowersourceshavebeen
    disconnectedfromtheserverbeforeremovingorreplacingadualprocessormodule.
    VoltagesarepresentatvariouslocationswithintheserverwheneveranACpowersourceis
    connected.Thisvoltageispresentevenwhenthemainpowerswitchisintheoffposition.
    Failuretoobservethiswarningcanresultinpersonalinjuryordamagetoequipment.
    CAUTION:Failuretoproperlycompletethestepsinthisprocedurewillresultinerraticserver
    behaviororsystemfailure.ForassistancewiththisprocedurecontactyourlocalHPAuthorized
    ServiceProvider.
