    Image Stabilizer
    Applicable modes: 
    Automatically detects and prevents jitter. For motion picture recording, the 5-Axis Hybrid 
    Image Stabilizer function is available. It uses both the optical stabilizer of the lens and the 
    electronic stabilizer of the camera’s sensor. It corrects diffe rent types of jitters including 
    those that occur during zoom recording and also recording while walking.

    ([Panning]) Camera shake is corrected for up/down

    (Video)] Corrects jitters that occur in 5 directions during motion pictu

    Preventing jitter (camera shake)
    When the jitter alert [ ] appears, use [Stabilizer], a tripod or  the self-timer (P132).
    • Shutter speed will be slower particularly in the following cas es. Keep the camera still from the 
    moment the shutter button is pressed until the picture appears  on the screen.
    We recommend using a tripod.
    – Slow Sync. – Slow Sync./Red-Eye Reduction
    – [Clear Nightscape]/[C ool Night Sky]/[Warm Glowing Nightscape]/ [Artistic Nightscape]/
    [Glittering Illuminations]/[Cl ear Night Portrait] (Scene Guide  Mode)
    – When you set to a slow shutter speed
    • It is recommended to disable the Image Stabilizer when using a  tripod.
    • The stabilizer function may not be effective in the following  cases.
    Be careful of camera jitter when you press the shutter button.
    – When there is a lot of jitter
    – When the zoom magnification is high
    – When using the Digital Zoom
    – When taking pictures while following a moving subject
    – When the shutter speed becomes slower to take pictures indoors  or in dark places
    • The panning effect in [ ] is more difficult to achieve in the f ollowing cases.
    – In brightly lit places such as in broad daylight on a summer’s  day
    – When the shutter speed is faster than 1/100th of a second
    – When you move the camera too slowly because the subject is mov ing slowly (The 
    background will not become a blur)
    – When the camera does not keep up with the subject satisfactori ly
    Not available in these cases:
    • In Panorama Shot Mode mode, the [Stabilizer] setting will switch to [ ] (Panning) even if it is 
    set to [ ] (Normal). 
    • In the following cases, the [Stabilizer] will switch to [ ] (No rmal), even if it is set to [ ] 
    (Panning):
    – During motion picture recording
    – When 4K Photo function has been set
    – When recording using [Post Focus]
    • The 5-Axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer function is not available i n the following cases:
    – When [Variable Frame Rate] is set
    – When recording motion pictures with their size set to [4K] or  [C4K] in [Rec Quality]

    Taking Pictures with the Zoom
    Applicable modes: 
    Zooms in without deteriorating the image quality.
    Maximum magnification: 20k
    Applicable modes: 
    This function works when any of the picture sizes  (P196) indicated with   is selected.
    You can zoom in further than you  can with the Optical Zoom without deteriorating the 
    image quality.
    Maximum magnification: 40 k
    (This includes the optical zoom magnification. The magnificatio n level differs 
    depending on [Picture Size] setting.)

    Taking pictures by using the flash
    Applicable modes: 
    ∫Open/Close the built-in flash
    Taking a picture using the flas h becomes possible by opening th e built-in flash.
    ATo open the flash
    Slide the flash open lever.
    BTo close the flash
    Press the flash until it clicks.• Forcibly closing the flash can damage the camera.
    • Be sure to close the built-in flash when not in use.
    • The flash setting is fixed to [ Œ] while the flash is closed.
    • Be careful when opening the flash as the flash will jump out.
    • Be careful not to catch a finger when closing the flash bulb.
    In the following cases, the flash is fixed to [ Œ] (forced flash off).• When recording motion pictures
    • When recording 4K photos
    • When recording with [Post Focus]
    • When using the electronic shutter
    • When [HDR] is set to [ON]
    • When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON]

    Using the flash skillfully• When taking pictures with flash with the lens hood attached, t he lower portion of the photo 
    may turn dark and the control of the flash may be disabled beca use the photo flash may be 
    obscured by the lens hood. We recommend detaching the lens hood .

    ∫The available flash range (approximation)
    The edges of flash pictures taken without using the zoom at sho rt distances (close to the 
    wide end) may appear dark. This may be alleviated by zooming in a little further.
    • This is the range when [ISO Limit Set]  (P205) is set to [OFF].

    • Do not bring the flash too close to objects or close the flash
     while it is activated. The objects 
    may be discolored by its heat or lighting.
    • Do not close the flash soon after the flash is activated prior  to taking pictures due to Forced 
    ON/Red-Eye Reduction etc. It causes a malfunction.
    • It may take time to charge the flash if you repeatedly take pi ctures. You must wait a moment to 
    take the next picture while the flash icon is blinking red indi cating the flash is charging.
    • When you attach an external flash, it takes priority over the  built-in flash. Refer to P312 for the 
    external flash.

    Setting the Flash Functions

    Select whether to set the flash output automatically or manually.

    3Press 2/1  to select an item and then press [MENU/SET].• You can set from [1/1] (full brightness) to [1/128] in steps o f [1/3].
    Changing the firing mode
    >[Rec] > [Flash]  > [Firing Mode]
    [TTL] The camera automatically sets the flash output.
    [MANUAL] Set the luminosity ratio of the flash manually. In [TTL] you ca
    n shoot the 
    photograph you want even when shooting dark scenes that may 
    otherwise be too brightly lit by the flash.
    • When [MANUAL] is set, the luminosity ratio ([1/1], etc.) is di splayed on 
    the flash icon on the screen.
