    7. Recording Motion Pictures
    • Hold the camera firmly in place while recording.
    • Recording will be performed with a motion picture size of [FHD].
    1Set the mode dial to [ ].

    • The angle of view narrows.
    3Set the cropping start frame.

    • When making settings for the first time, a cropping start  frame of size 1920 k1080 is displayed. (After setting the 
    cropping start frame and end frame, the start frame and 
    end frame that you set immediately before will be 
    displayed.)
    • The camera will remember the frame position and size even when the camera is turned 
    off.

    • The setting of the Auto Focus Mode switches to [ š].(The eye to be in focus is not indicated.)
    5Press the motion picture button (or shutter 
    button) to start recording.

    • Immediately release the motion picture button (or the 
    shutter button) after pressing it.
    • When the set operating time has elapsed, recording  automatically ends.
    To end recording midway, press the motion picture 
    button (or the shutter button) again.

    Press [Fn6] while the recording screen is displayed, and perfor m steps

    • Brightness is measured and focus is done in the cropping start frame. During motion picture 
    recording, they are done in the crop frame. To lock the focus p osition, set [Continuous AF] to 
    [OFF], or set the Focus Mode to [MF].

    Not available in these cases:• The following [Rec Format] and  [Rec Quality] settings cannot b e used:
    – A [Rec Format] setting of [AVCHD]

    • The operation for changing the aperture value, shutter speed or ISO sensitivity is the 
    same as the operation for setting the mode dial to  ,  ,   or  .
    3Press the motion picture button (or shutter button) to start re cording.
    4Press the motion picture button (or shutter button) again to st op 
    recording.
    Slow motion pictures
    Set a frame rate that provides more frames than the recording f rame rate in [Rec Quality] 
    does.
    Example: If you set [FHD/100M/24p] to [48fps] and record a moti on picture, a slow motion 
    effect of 1/2 can be gained.
    Quick motion pictures
    Set a frame rate that provides less frames than the recording f rame rate in [Rec Quality] 
    does.
    Example: If you set [FHD/100M/24p] to [12fps] and record a moti on picture, a quick motion 
    effect of 2 k can be gained.
    Recording motion pictures with manually set aperture value/shut ter 
    speed/ISO sensitivity ([Exposure Mode])

    It is also possible to display the selection screen by touching  the 
    Recording Mode icon in recording screen.
    • When [Exposure Mode] is set to [M], [AUTO] of the ISO sensitiv ity will switch to [125].

    • [MP4] does not support [Variable Frame Rate].
    • Items available for recording with a [Variable Frame Rate] are  indicated as [VFR 
    available] on the screen.

    4Press  2/1 to select the frame rate you will 
    record the item with.
    • You can select a value between [2fps] and [120fps].
    5Press [MENU/SET].
    • Exit the menu after it is set.

    • Auto Focus does not work.
    • Audio is not recorded.
    • If you set a frame rate with a number of frames greater than 60fps, the picture quality may 
    deteriorate.
    • If you assign [Variable Frame Rate] to [Fn Button Set]  (P55) in the [Custom] menu and press 
    the assinged function button, the frame rate setting screen wil l be displayed. (Only when 
    [Variable Frame Rate] is set to  [ON])
    • To play back motion pictures recorded with [Variable Frame Rate] on an external device or to  export the motion pictures to it, you need a compatible Blu-ray  disc recorder or a PC installed 
    with “ PHOTOfunSTUDIO ”.
    • When [Variable Frame Rate] is set, audio-related items in the  [Motion Picture] menu are 
    disabled.
    • We recommend using a tripod.
    • When you play back a motion picture recorded with [Variable Fr ame Rate], the recording time 
    display for motion pictures on the top right of the screen will  look different from the one that 
    appears during normal motion picture playback.

    The operational sound of the zoom or button operation may be recorded when it is 
    operated during the recording of a motion picture.
    Using touch icons allows silent operation while recording motio n pictures.

    You can adjust black, which serves as the reference for images, in 31 steps. Acting as the 
    reference for luminance signals, black is called the master ped estal. By adjusting the 
    range defined as black, not only can you adjust the way black a ppears, but also the 
    luminance balance of the entire image.
    1Select the menu. (P51)
    2Rotate the rear dial or front dial to adjust the 
    setting.
    • When not adjusting the setting, select [0].
    3Press [MENU/SET].
    • Exit the menu after it is set.

    By fine-adjusting the shutter speed, you can reduce flickering and horizontal stripes that 
    appear on the camera’s image when recording the screen of a TV  or PC.
    • This function is available when [Exposure Mode] is set to eith er [S] or [M] in Creative 
    Video Mode.
    1Select the menu. (P51)
    2Select [ON] with  3/4, and then press [MENU/SET] .
    3Select Shutter Speed with  2/1, and then 
    press [MENU/SET] .
    A Shutter speed
    • Adjust the shutter speed while looking at the screen so 
    that flickering and horizontal stripes will be minimized.
    • If you press and hold  2/1, the shutter speed will be 
    adjusted faster.
    • You can also adjust the shutter speed setting on the recording  screen in increments 
    finer than the normal adjustment method.

    • When you set [Synchro Scan] to [ON], the available shutter spe ed range becomes narrower.

    You can switch the units of shutter speed values and gain (sensitivity) values.

    and the gain in ISO.

    • The shutter speed below will be 
    selectable. (When [Synchro Scan] is set 
    to [OFF]):

    Recording while monitoring camera images
    Applicable modes: 
    You can record pictures or motion pictures while displaying 
    the camera image on an external device, such as a monitor, 
    via HDMI.
    • The camera image will be output using the setting selected for  
    [Rec Quality] in the motion picture recording menu.
    • For connection information, refer to  P300.
    ∫Setting the HDMI output options
    > [Motion Picture]  > [HDMI Rec Output]
    [Bit Mode] Sets the picture quality for the HDMI output.
    [4:2:2 8bit]
    ¢
    1:
    Allows you to record the image being output through the HDMI connection 
    as a motion picture. This option  is ideal for monitoring the image on the 
    external monitor while recording it.
    [4:2:2 10bit]
    ¢ 2:
    Allows you to output the image through the HDMI connection in high picture 
    quality. This option is ideal for saving the image on the exter nal device.
    [Info Display]Shows or hides the displays of information.
    [ON]:
    Outputs the displays on the camera as they are.
    [OFF]:
    Outputs only the image.
    • If you output the image through the HDMI connection when [Bit Mode] is 
    set to [4:2:2 10bit], this setting is fixed to [OFF].
    [4K Down Convert] Switches the picture quality according to the connected device.
    [AUTO]:
    When the motion picture size is set to [4K] or [C4K] in [Rec Qu
    ality] and the 
    connected device is not responding, the HDMI output picture qua lity 
    automatically switches to [1080p].
    [1080p]:
    When the motion picture size is set to [4K] or [C4K] in [Rec Qu ality], the 
    HDMI output picture quality switches to [1080p].
    [OFF]:
    Outputs the image through the HDMI connection with the picture  quality set 
    in [Rec Quality].
    • When [OFF] is set, the image may not be displayed depending on  the 
    connected device.
    • It may take longer than usual to adjust the focus with Auto Fo cus and the 
    camera may respond slower to continuous focus adjustment.
