    Using the Batter y
    Your phone is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion 
    battery. A Wall/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) are 
    included with the phone, for charging the battery.
    Note: The battery comes partially charged. You must fully charge the battery 
    before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery 
    requires up to 4 hours of charge time.
    Warning!: Use only Samsung-approved charging devices and batteries. 
    Samsung accessories are designed to maximize battery life. Using 
    other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may cause 
    damage.
    Batter y Indicator
    The   Battery Level icon in the Status Bar shows battery 
    power level. Before the battery becomes too low to operate, the 
    empty battery icon will flash and a tone will sound. If you continue 
    to operate the phone without charging, the phone will power off.
    Non-Supported Batteries
    Samsung phones do not support non-approved batteries. 
    Samsung charging accessories, such as the Wall/USB Charger, 
    will only charge Samsung-approved batteries. If you install a 
    non-approved battery and try to charge it, the phone will beep 
    and display the message:
    “
    NON SUPPORTED BATTERY. SEE USER MANUAL”
    If you receive this warning, battery charging is disabled.
    Important!: Using a non-approved battery may damage your phone.

    Batter y cover
    The battery is under a removable cover on the back of the phone.
    Removing the cover
    1.To unlock the cover, insert the Battery Cover Removal Tool, 
    or a coin, into the lock and turn it counter-clockwise. 
    2.Lift the cover up and away from the phone. 
    Installing the cover
    1.Press the cover into place on the phone.
    2.Insert the Battery Cover Removal Tool, or a coin, into the 
    lock and turn it clockwise to lock the cover.

    1.Remove the battery cover.
    2.Insert the battery into the phone, aligning the gold contacts 
    on the battery with the gold contacts in the phone.
    3.Install the battery cover.

    Charging the Batter y
    Your phone comes with a Wall/USB Charger (Charging Head and 
    USB Cable) to charge your phone from any 110/220 VAC outlet. 
    Note: The battery comes partially charged. You must fully charge the battery 
    before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery 
    requires up to 4 hours of charge time.
    After the first charge, you can use the phone while charging.
    1.Insert the USB cable into the port.
    2.Connect the USB cable to the Charging Head. 
    3.Plug the Charging Head into a standard AC power outlet.
    4.When charging is complete, unplug the Charging Head 
    from the power oultet and remove the USB cable from the 
    phone.

    Turning Your Phone On and Off
    Turning Your Phone On
    Open the phone, then press and hold the   End/Power Key.
    While powering on, the phone connects with the network, then 
    displays the Home screen and active alerts.
    Note: If the phone is outside your provider’s coverage area, the  Roaming icon appears in the Status Bar.
    Turning Your Phone Off
    Open the phone, then press and hold the   End/Power Key.
    Voicemail
    Voicemail allows callers to leave voice messages.
    Note: Airtime and long distance charges apply. Mobile to Mobile minutes do not apply to Voicemail setup or retrievals.
    Setting up Voicemail
    1.From the Home screen, press and hold the 
     
    Voicemail Key.
    2.Follow the automated instructions to set up your new 
    password and record a greeting . 
    Note: You can also access Voicemail from the Messaging menu, or by dialing your phone number from any touch-tone phone.
    Listening to Voicemail
    1.From the Home screen, press and hold the 
     
    Voicemail Key.
    2.Follow the automated prompts to enter your password and 
    listen to messages and manage voicemail.

    Set-up Wizard
    The first time you turn on your phone, Set-up Wizard will prompt 
    you to configure basic preferences, to quickly get started using 
    your phone.
    You can also access Set-up Wizard at any time in Settings.
    1.From the Home screen, select   MENU ➔ 
     
    Settings & Tools ➔ Set-up Wizard.
    2.Use the Left Soft Key  , Right Soft Key , and 
    Center Select Key    to follow the prompts and set 
    preferences:
    • Volume Key Control: When enabled, you can adjust the display’s 
    font size by pressing the Volume Key.
     Front Screen Menu: View information about the menu available on 
    the Front Screen when the phone is closed.
     Call Sounds: Choose how your phone alerts you to incoming calls.
     Display Themes: Choose the look of your phone’s screen.
    : Choose a font for the phone dialer and menus.
     Menu Layout: Choose the look of the Main menu.
    : Select a format for the clock on the Home screen.
    : Select a format for the clock on the external display.
    TTY Mode
    Your phone is fully TTY-compatible, allowing you to connect a  
    TTY device to the phone’s headset jack. Before you can use your 
    phone with a TTY device, you’ll need to enable TTY Mode. For 
    more information about TTY settings, see “TTY Mode” on 
    page 120.
    Roaming
    When you travel outside your home network’s coverage area, 
    your phone can roam to acquire service on other compatible 
    digital networks. When Roaming is active, the Roaming icon 
    appears in the Annunciator line of the display. 
    During roaming, some services may not be available. Depending 
    on your coverage area and service plan, extra charges may apply 
    when making or receiving call. 
    You can set your phone’s roaming behavior. For more 
    information, see “System Select” on page 119.

    Memor y Card
    Your phone supports the use of an optional, removable 
    microSD™ and microSDHC™ memory card of up to 32GB 
    capacity (not included). You can store music or pictures you 
    download to your phone, and other files, on the memory card.
    When you insert a memory card, default storage of all files

    1.Lift the memory card cover out and turn it to expose the 
    card slot. 
    2.Push the memory card into the slot until it locks into place.
    3.Replace the memory card cover.
     
    Removing a Memor y Car d
    1.Lift the memory card cover out and turn it to expose the 
    card slot.
    2.Press on the memory card to release the lock, then remove 
    the card from the slot.
    3.Replace the memory card cover.
    Formatting a Memor y Card using your Phone
    1.From the Home screen, select   MENU ➔ 
     
    Settings & Tools ➔ Memory ➔ Card Memory ➔ 
    Format Card
    .
    2.At the prompt, highlight Ye s to confirm the formatting, then 
    press

    Closed ViewFeatures
    1.Flash/Flashlight: Provides light for Camera/Camcorder, or 
    use as a flashlight.
    2.Camera Lens: Use to take photos and record video.
    3.Rewind Key: During music playback, press and hold to 
    rewind music. Press to go to the previous song. When the 
    phone is closed, press to turn on the flashlight.
    4.Play/Pause Key: From the external home screen, press to 
    access an external menu of applications with the phone 
    closed. For more information, refer to “Playing Music with 
    the Phone Closed”  on page 87.
    5.Forward Key: Press with the backlight On to Lock and 
    Unlock external keys. Press with the backlight Off to 
    unlock external keys. During music playback, press and 
    hold to fast forward music. Press to go to the next song. 
    When the flashlight is on with the phone closed, press to 
    turn off the flashlight.
    6.Speakers: Plays Music, Ringtones and Sounds.

    Side Views1.Push To Talk/Side Key: Press to launch a shortcut menu. 
    When PTT Mode is turned on, press to initiate PTT.
    2.Volume Key: Press to adjust master volume, or voice 
    volume during a call. Press to mute an incoming call 
    ringtone. Press and hold down to activate Sound Off mode, 
    or press and hold up to return to the Master Volume level. 
    When using the external menu, press to navigate lists. 
    Press down four times to initiate the Fake Call feature.
    3.Memory Card Slot: Insert an optional microSD™ or 
    microSDHC™ memory card (not included) for additional 
    storage capacity.
    4.USB Accessory/Charging Port: The charging port is used to 
    plug in the charging accessories and also connect any 
    available accessory cables to your phone.
    5.Speakerphone Key: When the phone is closed, press and 
    hold to turn Driving mode on or off. When the phone is 
    open, press to turn Speakerphone on or off.
    6.2.5mm Headset Jack: Plug in an optional headset for safe, 
    convenient conversations.
    7.Strap Attachment: Attach an optional strap (not included).
