    TheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitchislocatedinsidetheserverandcannotbeaccessedwithout
    openingtheserverenclosure.TosettheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitch,theservermustbepowered
    offanddisconnectedfromthepowersource.Settheswitchandthenpowerontheserver.Reverse
    theproceduretocleartheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitch.
    AwarningmessageappearsontheiLO2Webpages,indicatingthattheiLO2SecurityOverride
    switchiscurrentlyinuse.AniLO2logentryisaddedrecordingtheuseoftheiLO2Security
    Overrideswitch.AnSNMPalertcanalsobesentuponsettingorclearingtheiLO2Security
    Overrideswitch.
    Intheunlikelyeventthatitisnecessary,settingtheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitchalsoenables
    youtoflashtheiLO2bootblock.ThebootblockisexposeduntiliLO2isreset.HPrecommends
    thatyoudisconnectiLO2fromthenetworkuntiltheresetiscomplete.
    Dependingontheserver,theiLO2SecurityOverrideswitchmightbeasinglejumperoritmight
    beaspecificswitchpositiononadipswitchpanel.ToaccesstheiLO2SecurityOverrideswitch,
    refertotheserverdocumentation.
    Authenticationcodeerrormessage
    WithinaMozillabrowser,youmightreceiveanincorrectmessageauthenticationcodeerror
    message,whichindicatesthatthepublicorprivatekeypairandcertificateusedtoinitiatethe
    browserSSLsessionhaschanged.Thiserrormessagecanoccurwhenyoudonotuseacustomer
    providedcertificate,becauseiLO2generatesitsownself-signedcertificateeachtimeitisrebooted.
    Toresolvethis,closeandrestarttheWebbrowser,orinstallyourowncertificatesintoiLO2.

    distinguishednameappearsinoneoftheusercontextfields.Usercontextsarenotcase-sensitive.
    However,anythingelse,includingspacesarepartoftheusercontext.
    Directoryuserdoesnotlogoutafterthedirectorytimeouthasexpires
    IfyousettheiLO2timeouttoInfinitetimeout,theremoteconsoleperiodicallypingsthefirmware
    toverifythattheconnectionexists.Whenthispingoccurs,theiLO2firmwarequeriestheDirectory
    foruserpermissions.ThisperiodicquerykeepstheDirectoryconnectionactive,preventingatimeout
    andloggingtheuser.
    TroubleshootingRemoteConsoleissues
    ThefollowingsectionsdiscusstroubleshootingRemoteConsoleissues.Ingeneral:
    •Pop-upblockerspreventRemoteConsoleandVirtualSerialPortfromstarting.
    •Pop-upblockingapplicationsthataresettopreventtheautomaticopeningofnewwindows
    preventRemoteConsoleandVirtualSerialPortfromrunning.Disableanypop-upblocking
    programsbeforestartingRemoteConsoleorVirtualSerialPort.
    RemoteConsoleapplethasaredXwhenrunningLinuxclientbrowser

    							Ifthemousestillfailstooperatecorrectly,orifthissituationoccursfrequently,verifythatyour
    mousesettingsmatchthoserecommendedin“OptimizingmouseperformanceforRemoteConsole
    orIntegratedRemoteConsole”(page88).
    RemoteConsolenolongeropensontheexistingbrowsersession
    WiththeadditionoftheTerminalServicespassthroughfunction,thebehavioroftheRemoteConsole
    appletisslightlydifferentfrompreviousversionsofiLO2firmware.IfaRemoteConsolesession
    isalreadyopenandtheRemoteConsolelinkisclickedagain,thentheRemoteConsolesession
    doesnotrestart.TheRemoteConsolesessionmightappearfrozen.
    Forexample,ifthefollowingstepsareexecuted:
    1.FromClient-1,logintoiLO2andopenaremoteconsolesession.
    2.FromClient-2,logintoiLO2andtrytoopenaRemoteConsolesession.Thefollowingmessage
    displays:
    Remote console is already opened by another session
    ThisisexpectedbecauseonlyoneRemoteConsolesessionissupportedatatime.
    3.ReturntoClient-1andclosetheRemoteConsolesession.
    4.FromClient-2,clicktheRemoteConsolelinkwiththeoldRemoteConsoleappletstillopen.
    Theremoteconsolesessiondoesnotrefreshandtheoldmessagediscussedinstep2isstill
    displayed.
    AlthoughthisbehaviorisdifferentthaninpreviousversionsofiLOfirmware,thisisexpected
    behaviorinthisversionoftheiLOfirmware.Toavoidissuesofthisnature,alwayscloseanopen
    remoteconsolesessionpriortotryingtoreopenit.
    Remoteconsoletextwindownotupdatingproperly
    WhenusingtheRemoteConsoletodisplaytextwindowsthatscrollatahighrateofspeed,the
    textwindowmightnotupdateproperly.Thiserroriscausedbyvideoupdatesoccurringquicker
    thantheiLO2firmwarecandetectanddisplaythem.Typically,onlytheupperleftcornerofthe
    textwindowupdateswhiletherestofthetextwindowremainsstatic.Afterthescrollingiscomplete,
    clickRefreshtoproperlyupdatethetextwindow.
    OneknownexampleofthisissueisduringtheLinuxbootingandpostingprocess,inwhichsome
    ofthePOSTmessagescanbelost.Apossibleresultisthatakeyboardresponseisrequestedby
    thebootprocessandmightbemissed.Toavoidthisissue,thebootingandpostingprocessmust
    besloweddownbyeditingtheLinuxstartupscripttoallowmoretimeforkeyboardresponses.
    RemoteConsoleturnsgrayorblack
    TheRemoteConsolescreenturnsgrayorblackwhentheserverisrebootedfromtheTerminal
    Servicesclient.Thescreenremainsgrayorblackfor30secondstooneminute.Theclientcloses
    becausetheTerminalServicesserverisnotavailable.TheiLO2remoteconsoletakesover,but
    theRemoteConsolescreenturnsgrayorblack.Whenthescreenreturns,theRemoteConsole
    functionsnormally.
    RemoteSerialConsoletroubleshooting
    TheRemoteSerialConsoleoptionreliesontheVirtualSerialPort.TheVirtualSerialPortmustbe
    correctlyenabledandconfiguredinthehostRBSU.YoucanaccesstheVirtualSerialPortusing
    SSHorTelnet(ifenabled).YoucanaccesstheCLPfromahostserialsessioniftheUARTand
    VirtualSerialPortsharethesamesettings.ToaccesstheCLPfromahostserialsessionenterEsc-(
    (escapeleft-parentheses)toswitchtothecommand-lineinterpreter.
    Pop-upblockingapplicationswillpreventtheRemoteSerialConsoleoptionfromrunning.Disable
    anypop-upblockingprogramsbeforestartingtheRemoteSerialConsoleoption.

    andthenselecttheSettingstab.IntheSettingssection,clickAdvanced.WhentheAdvancedpage
    appears,selecttheTroubleshoottab.AdjustHardwareAccelerationdownuntiltheflickergoes
    away.
    ConfiguringApachetoacceptexportedcapturebuffers
    ToenabletheConsoleReplayExportfeaturetoworkcorrectly,youmustconfigureawebserver
    toacceptthebufferdata.ThefollowingisanexampleofconfigurationchangesmadetoApache
    version2.0.59(Win32)onaserverrunningMicrosoftWindowsServer2003.
    Youmustselectalocationtostoretheexporteddata,setApachepermissionstowritetothis
    location,andconfigureauthentication.Toconfigureauthentication,youmustrunhtpasswd.exe
    tocreatetheusernamesandpasswordsforApachetoauthenticateagainstwhenanaccessrequest

    ispowereddown.Youcanplaybackthecapturedbuffersbyexportingthebufferstoawebserver
    andplayingthefilesonanotherserverIRCconsole.Manuallyexportthebufferwiththeexport
    buttonlocatedontheRemoteConsole>Settingspageafterconfiguringthewebserverandexport
    location.
    Skippinginformationduringbootandfaultbufferplayback
    Somelossofscreeninformationisnormalandmightbeseenduringplaybackofbootandfault
    buffers.Tohelpalleviatetheissue,ensurethattheIRCisactiveduringbootandfault.Ifyoucontinue
    toexperiencedataloss,tryamanualcaptureofthesesequences.Tomanuallycaptureaserver
    sequence,starttheIRC,andclickRecord.
    OutofMemoryerrorstartingIntegratedRemoteConsole
    TheclientsystemcanrunoutofmemoryiftoomanyIRCsessionsareopenedatonetime.Every
    IRCsessionrequiresatleast16MBofmemoryforscreenbufferspaceandVirtualFoldercanuse
    about100MB.IfamessageboxappearswhenstartingtheIRC,notenoughmemoryisavailable
    ontheclienttobufferthescreendata.Forexample:
    Tocorrectthesetypesoferrors,closesomeIRCsessionsoraddmemorytotheclientmachineto
    allowmoresessionstobeopensimultaneously.
    SessionleaderdoesnotreceiveconnectionrequestwhenIRCisinreplaymode
    Asasessionleader,whenyouplaybackcapturevideodata,theIRCwillnotdisplaytheDeny
    or AcceptwarningmessagewhenanotheruserattemptstoaccessorsharetheIRC.Instead,
    thenewIRCsessionwillwaitandeventuallytime-out.IfyourequireaccesstotheIRC,attemptto
    accesstheIRCandtime-out,usetheAcquirefeaturetotakecontroloftheIRC.
    KeyboardLEDdoesnotdisplaycorrectly
    TheclientkeyboardLEDdoesnotreflectthetruestateofthevariouskeyboardlockkeys.However,
    theCapsLock,NumLockandScrollLockkeysarefullyfunctionalwhenusingtheKeyUp/Down
    keyboardoptioninIRC.

    							InactiveIRC
    TheiLO2IRCmightbecomeinactiveordisconnectedduringperiodsofhighactivity.Theissueis
    indicatedbyaninactiveIRC.IRCactivityslowsbeforebecominginactive.Symptomsofanaffected
    IRCinclude:
    •TheIRCdisplaydoesnotupdate.
    •Keyboardandmouseactivityarenotrecorded.
    •SharedRemoteConsolerequestsdonotregister.
    •TheVirtualMediaconnectiondisplaysanempty(blank)virtualmediadevice.
    AlthoughyoucanreplayacapturedfileonaninactiveIRC,theactivestateoftheIRCisnot
    restored.
    ThisissuemightoccurwhenmultipleusersareloggedintoiLO2,aVirtualMediasessionis
    connectedandisperformingacontinuouscopyoperation,oranIRCsessionisopen.TheVirtual
    Mediacontinuouscopyoperationtakespriority,and,consequently,theIRClosessynchronization.
    Eventually,theVirtualMediaconnectionresetsmultipletimesandcausestheoperatingsystemUSB
    mediadrivetolosesynchronizationwiththeVirtualMediaclient.
    Toworkaroundthisissue,reconnecttotheIRCandtheVirtualMedia.Ifpossible,reducethe
    numberofsimultaneoususersessionstoiLO2.Ifnecessary,resetiLO2(theserverdoesnotneed
    tobereset).
    IRCFailedtoconnecttoservererrormessage
    iLO2mightissuethemessageFailed to connect to serverwhenattemptingtoestablish
    anIRCsession.VerifyanavailableTelnetconnection.
    TheiLO2IRCclientwaitsaspecifiedamountoftimeforanIRCconnectiontobeestablishedwith
    iLO2.Iftheclientserverdoesnotreceivearesponseinthisamountoftime,itissuesanerror
    message.
    Possiblecausesforthismessageinclude:
    •Thenetworkresponseisdelayed.
    •Asharedremoteconsolesessionisrequested,buttheremoteconsolesessionleaderdelays
    sendinganacceptanceordenialmessage.
    Toworkaroundthisissue,retrytheIRCconnection.Ifpossible,correctthenetworkdelayandretry
    theIRCconnection.Iftherequestwasforasharedremoteconsolesession,attempttocontactthe
    sessionleaderandretrytherequest.IftheremoteconsoleAcquirefunctionisenabled,usethe
    Acquirebuttonratherthanrequestingasharedremoteconsolesession.
    IRCtoolbariconsdonotupdate
    WhenconnectingtotheIRConiLO2version1.30,anIRCobject(iLO2RemoteConsoleapplet)
    isinstalledinthebrowser.TheobjectincludestoolbariconsfornewfeaturesincludediniLO2
    version1.30.WhenbrowsingtoiLO2version1.29orearlier,theIRCobjectisnotreplacedby
    theversionincludedwiththeearlierfirmware.Asaresult,toolbariconsappearforfeaturesincluded
    iniLO2version1.30thatarenotavailableinearlierversions.Ifyouclickonanicon,anerror
    messagemightappear.
    TomanuallyremovetheIRCobject:
    1.FromanInternetExplorerbrowser,clickTools>InternetOptions.
    2.SelectTemporaryInternetfiles>Settings
    3.ClickViewObjects.
    4.Right-clickiLO2RemoteConsoleAppletandclickRemove.
    5.ClickOKtoremovetheobject,andthenclickOKtoclose.

    TerminatinganiLO2RemoteConsoleorlosingiLO2networkconnectivitydoesnotlockthe

    TheGNOMEkeyboardhandlerrequirestimetoprocesskeysequencesthatcontainmodifier
    keystrokes.ThisissuedoesnotoccurwhenkeysequencesareenteredmanuallythroughtheIRC,
    butitbecomesanissuewhenthekeysequenceissentbyiLO2.Thekeysequencewithkeystroke
    modifierissentbyiLO2fasterthantheGNOMEkeyboardhandlercanprocessit.
    AworkaroundforthisissueistousetheLinuxKDEGUIinsteadofGNOME.TheKDEkeystroke
    handlerdoesnottakeanexcessivelylongtimetoprocesskeysequencesthatcontainmodifier
    keys.BothKDEandGNOMEinterfacesshipwithalldistributionsofLinux.
    RepeatingkeysontheRemoteConsole
    WhenusingtheRemoteConsoleundercertainconditionsofnetworklatency,youcanregister
    multiplekeypressesforasinglekeypress.Formoreinformation,see“RemoteConsolesettings”
    (page81).
    RemoteConsoleplaybackdoesnotworkwhenthehostserverispoweredoff
    Whenattachedtoahostserverthatispoweredoff,RemoteConsoleplaybackdoesnotoperate.
    ToaccessrecordedRemoteConsolefiles,power-ontheserverorattachtoanotheriLO2ina
    poweredonserver.
    TroubleshootingSSHandTelnetissues

    InitialPuTTYinputslow
    DuringinitialconnectionusingaPuTTYclient,inputisacceptedslowlyforapproximately5seconds.
    ThiscanbeaddressedbychangingtheconfigurationoptionsintheclientundertheLow-levelTCP
    connectionoptions,unchecktheDisableNagle'salgorithmoption.UnderTelnetoptions,setTelnet
    negotiationmodetoPassive.
    PuTTYclientunresponsivewithSharedNetworkPort
    WhenusingPuTTYclientwiththeSharedNetworkPort,thePuTTYsessionmightbecome
    unresponsivewhenalargeamountadataistransferredorwhenusingaVirtualSerialPortand
    RemoteConsole.Tocorrecttheissue,closethePuTTYclient,andrestartthesession.
    SSHtextsupportfromaRemoteConsolesession
    TheTelnetandSSHaccessfromtextRemoteConsolesupportsthestandard80x25configuration
    ofthetextscreen.ThismodeiscompatiblefortextRemoteConsoleforthemajorityofavailable
    textmodeinterfacesincurrentoperatingsystems.Extendedtextconfigurationbeyondthe80x25
    configurationisnotdisplayedcorrectlywhenusingTelnetorSSH.HPrecommendsconfiguring
    thetextapplicationin80x25modeorusetheiLO2RemoteConsoleappletprovidedbythe
    webinterface.

    TerminalServicesproxystopsresponding
    AnytimeiLO2isreset(suchaschangingnetworksettingsorglobalsettings),TerminalServices

    Generalguidelines
    •Theclientscreenresolutionmustbegreaterthanthescreenresolutionoftheremoteserver.
    •TheiLO2RemoteConsoleonlysupportstheATIRageXLvideochipthatisintegratedinthe
    system.TheRemoteConsolefunctionalityofiLO2doesnotworkifyouinstallaplug-invideo
    card.AllotheriLO2functionalityisavailableifyouchoosetouseaplug-invideocard.
    •OnlyoneuseratatimecanaccesstheRemoteConsole.Checktoseeifanotheruserislogged
    intoiLO2.
    TelnetdisplaysincorrectlyinDOS
    WhenusingtheiLO2TelnetsessiontodisplaytextscreensinvolvingamaximizedDOSwindow,
    theTelnetsessionisunabletorepresentanythingexcepttheupperportionofthescreenifthe
    serverscreenislargerthan80x25.
    TocorrectthisadjusttheDOSwindowspropertiestolimititssizeto80x25,beforemaximizing
    theDOSwindow.

    Somevideoapplications,suchasMicrosoftMediaPlayer,donotdisplay,ordonotdisplay

    overlayregisters.Typically,applicationsthatstreamvideousethevideooverlayregisters.iLO2
    isnotintendedforusewiththistypeofapplication.
    Userinterfaceisnotdisplayingcorrectly
    OnProLiantserversusingRedHatEL4.0andsomeotherLinuxsystemsandiLO2,thetextonthe
    buttonsoftheuserinterfacemightbecutoffalongthebottomofthebutton.Thiserroroccurs
    becauseMozillaFirefoxdoesnotdisplaythetextsizethatiLO2specifiesforthebuttons.Todisplay
    thetextcorrectly,selectView>TextSize>Decreaseuntilthetextappearscorrectly.

    TheVirtualMediaappletmightproducearedXifanunsupportedbrowserorJVMisused,orif
    EnableAllCookiesisnotenabled.Tocorrectthisissue,ensureyouareusingasupportedbrowser
    andJVMonyourclientbyreviewingthesupportmatrixfoundin“Supportedbrowsersandclient
    operatingsystems”(page15).AlsobesureEnableAllCookiesisselectedonthebrowserPreferences
    orOptionsmenu.Somebrowsersdonotenablecookiesbydefault.
    VirtualFloppymediaappletisunresponsive
    iLO2VirtualFloppymediaappletcanbecomeunresponsiveifthephysicalfloppydiskettecontains
    mediaerrors.
    Topreventthevirtualfloppymediaappletfrombecomingunresponsive,runCHKDSK.EXE(ora
    similarutility)tocheckthephysicalfloppydiskettemediaforerrors.Ifthephysicalmediacontains
    errors,reloadthefloppydisketteimageontoanewphysicalfloppydiskette.

    recordedinactivityistruncatedtoreducefilesizeandimproveplaybackperformance.Thiscan
    causetheplaybacktoappeartostartandstop,orplayerratically.
    TroubleshootingRemoteTextConsoleissues
    ThefollowingsectionsdiscussitemstobeawareofwhenattemptingtoresolveRemoteTextConsole
    issues.
    ViewingtheLinuxinstallerinthetextconsole
    WheninstallingLinuxusingthetextconsole,theinitialinstallscreenmightnotdisplaybecausethe
    screenisingraphicsmode.Tocorrectthisandproceedwiththeinstallation,doonethefollowing:
    •FormostversionsofLinux,enterlinux text nofb.Thecharactersyouenterwillnotdisplay.
    Ifenterthecommandcorrectly,thescreenchangesfromgraphicsmodetotextmode,displaying
    thescreen.
    •ForSLES9andSLES10,blindlypressF2and¯(downarrow)fromthetextconsole.Ifdone
    correctly,thetextmodeisselectedandthescreenappears.
    PassingdatathroughanSSHterminal
    IfyouuseanSSHterminaltoaccessthetextconsole,SSHmightinterceptkeystrokedataandnot
    passtheactiontothetextconsole.Whenthisoccurs,itappearsasifthekeystrokedidnotperform
    itsfunction.Tocorrectthisissue,disableanySSHterminalshort-cuts.
    Troubleshootingmiscellaneousissues

    CookiesharingbetweenbrowserinstancesandiLO2
    iLO2usesbrowsersessioncookiesinparttodistinguishseparatelogins.Eachbrowserwindow
    displaysasaseparateuserlogin,whileactuallysharingthesameactivesessionwiththeiLO2.

    							Thesemultipleloginscanconfusethebrowser.ThisconfusioncanappearasaniLO2issue;
    however,thisisamanifestationoftypicalbrowserbehavior.
    Severalprocessescancauseabrowsertoopenadditionalwindows.Browserwindowsopened
    fromwithinanopenbrowserrepresentdifferentaspectsofthesameprograminmemory.
    Consequently,eachbrowserwindowsharespropertieswiththeparent,includingcookies.
    Sharedinstances
    WheniLO2opensanotherbrowserwindow,forexample,RemoteConsole,VirtualMedia,or
    Help,thiswindowsharesthesameconnectiontoiLO2andthesessioncookie.
    TheiLO2WebservermakesURLdecisionsbasedoneachrequestreceived.Forexample,ifa
    requestdoesnothaveaccessrights,itisredirectedtotheloginpage,regardlessoftheoriginal
    request.Webserverbasedredirection,selectingFile>New>WindoworpressingtheCtrl+Nkeys,
    opensaduplicateinstanceoftheoriginalbrowser.
    Cookieorderbehavior
    Duringlogin,theloginpagebuildsabrowsersessioncookiethatlinksthewindowtotheappropriate
    sessioninthefirmware.ThefirmwaretracksbrowserloginsasseparatesessionslistedintheActive
    SessionssectionoftheiLO2Statuspage.
    Forexample,whenUser1logsin,theWebserverbuildstheinitialframesview,withcurrentuser:
    User1inthetoppane,menuitemsintheleftpane,andpagedatainthelower-rightpane.As
    User1clicksfromlinktolink,onlythemenuitemsandpagedataareupdated.
    WhileUser1isloggedin,ifanotheruser,User2,opensanotherbrowserwindowonthesame
    clientandlogsin,thesecondloginoverwritesthecookiegeneratedintheoriginalUser1session.
    AssumingthatUser2isadifferentuseraccount,adifferentcurrentframeisbuilt,andanewsession
    isgranted.ThesecondsessionappearsintheActiveSessionssectionoftheiLO2Statuspageas
    currentuser:User2.
    Thesecondloginhaseffectivelyorphanedthefirstsession(User1)bywipingoutthecookie
    generatedduringUser1'slogin.ThisbehavioristhesameasclosingUser1'sbrowserwithout
    clickingtheLogOutlink.User1'sorphanedsessionisreclaimedwhenthesessiontimeoutexpires.
    Becausethecurrentuserframeisnotrefreshedunlessthebrowserisforcedtorefreshtheentire
    page,User1cancontinuenavigatingusinghisorherbrowserwindow.However,thebrowseris
    nowoperatingusingUser2'ssessioncookiesettings,eventhoughitisnotreadilyapparent.
    IfUser1continuestonavigateinthismode(User1andUser2sharingthesameprocessbecause
    User2loggedinandresetthesessioncookie),thefollowingcanoccur:
    •User1'ssessionbehavesconsistentlywiththeprivilegesassignedtoUser2.
    •User1'sactivitykeepsUser2'ssessionalive,butUser1'ssessioncantimeoutunexpectedly.
    •Loggingoutofeitherwindowcausesbothwindowsessionstoterminate.Thenextactivityin
    theotherwindowcanredirecttheusertotheloginpageasifasessiontimeoutorpremature
    timeoutoccurred.
    •ClickingLogOutfromthesecondsession(User2)resultsina
    Logging out:  unknown page to display before redirecting the user to the login page.
    •IfUser2logsoutthenlogsbackinasUser3,User1assumesUser3'ssession.
    •IfUser1isatlogin,andUser2isloggedin,User1canaltertheURLtoredirecttotheindex
    page.ItappearsasifUser1hasaccessediLO2withoutloggingin.
    Thesebehaviorscontinueaslongastheduplicatewindowsareopen.Allactivitiesareattributed
    tothesameuser,usingthelastsessioncookieset.
