    StandardiLO2providesserverconsoleaccessfromserverpower-onthroughPOST.Integrated
    RemoteConsole,IntegratedRemoteConsoleFullscreen,andRemoteConsolearegraphicalremote
    consolesthatturnasupportedbrowserintoavirtualdesktop,allowingyoufullcontroloverthe
    display,keyboard,andmouseofthehostserver.Theoperating-system-independentconsolesupports
    graphicmodesthatdisplayremotehostserveractivities,includingshutdownandstartupoperations
    (iflicensed).
    RemoteconsoleaccesstothehostserverafterserverPOSTisalicensedfeatureavailablewiththe

    RemoteConsoleandIntegratedRemoteConsoleconnectionsaregraphicalandmustberendered
    usingaclientprogramthatcanprocessiLO2graphicscommands.Twoclientsareprovidedto
    rendertheiLO2graphics:
    •Java-basedRemoteConsole
    •WindowsActiveX-basedIntegratedRemoteConsole
    ForthoseclientsthatdonotunderstandiLO2graphics,SSHandTelnet,youmustusetheiLO2
    RemoteSerialConsoleorpurchaseaniLOAdvancedlicensetousethetext-basedconsoleafter
    POST.
    ESXconsoles,inparticularESXconsole1,donotfullysupportiLO2RemoteConsoleandIntegrated
    RemoteConsole.ESXdoesnotsupportRemoteSerialConsole.
    iLO2bladesshipwiththeiLO2StandardBladeEdition,whichincludestheRemoteConsole.
    However,theHPProLiantMLandHPProLiantDLmodelsshipwiththeiLOStandardlicense,which
    doesnotincludetheRemoteConsoleorIntegratedRemoteConsole.Assoonastheserverstarts
    tobootanoperatingsystem,theiLO2StandardontheHPProLiantMLandProLiantDLmodels
    displaysamessagethatindicatestheneedfortheiLO2Advancedlicense.Formoreinformation,

    							TheRemoteConsoleSettingspageincludesthreetabs:
    Settings
    •HighPerformanceMousesettingscanhelpalleviateremoteconsolemousesynchronization
    issues,butthisfeatureisnotsupportedonalloperatingsystems.Theeffectsofchangingthe
    settingstakeplacewhenremoteconsoleisstartedorrestarted.Thefollowingoptionsare
    available:
    —Disabled–Enablesthemousetousetherelativecoordinatesmodewhichiscompatible
    withmosthostoperatingsystems.
    —Enabled–Enablesthemousetousetheabsolutecoordinatesmode,eliminating
    synchronizationissuesonsupportedoperatingsystems.
    —Automatic–EnablesiLO2toselecttheappropriatemousemodewhentheiLO2driver
    isloadedonthehostoperatingsystem.Theselectedmodeispersistentunlessadifferent
    modeisindicatedwhentheoperatingsystemdriverisloadedorifyouchooseanother
    setting.
    •RemoteConsoleAcquireenablesoneusertotaketheremoteconsolesessionawayfrom
    anotheruser.Thissettingenablesordisablestheacquirefunctionality.
    •SharedRemoteConsoleenablesmultipleuserstoviewandcontroltheserverconsoleatthe
    sametime.Thissettingenablesordisablesthesharedfunctionality.
    •InteractiveConsoleReplayallowsyoutoreplaythecapturedconsolevideoofbootandfault
    sequencesalongwithuser-initiatedmanualconsolecaptures.
    •TheKey-Up/Key-DownsettingallowsyoutogglebetweenusingtheHIDreportkeyboard
    modelandtheASCIIandESCcodeskeyboardmodelintheIRC.TheHIDreportkeyboard
    modelisenabledbydefaultbutmightcauserepeatingcharactersonhighlatencynetworks.
    IfyouexperiencerepeatingcharacterswhenusingIRC,setKey-Up/Key-DowntoDisabled.
    •Boot/FaultConsoleCaptureenablesyoutocaptureconsolevideotointernalbuffersofany
    bootandfaultsequences.Internalbufferspaceislimitedtothecaptureofthemostrecentboot
    orfaultsequence.Bufferspaceislimited.Themoredynamicandthehigherthegraphical
    resolutionoftheserverconsole,thelessamountofdatathatcanbestoredinthebuffer.Select
    whichtypeofvideotocaptureusingthefollowingoptions:
    —ConsoleCapturebufferallowsyoutoselectwhichtypeofconsolesequencetocapture.
    Youcanenableeitherbufferorenablebothbuffersatthesametime.Thebuffersshare
    thesameinternaldataarea,soenablingbothreducestheamountofconsolevideothat

    							canbecaptured.Youcanchangetheenabledbuffersatanytimetomaximizebuffer
    utilization.Whenthebufferconfigurationischanged,bothbuffersareresetand
    informationcurrentlyinthebuffersatthattimeislost.
    —AutoExport/FaultBufferallowsyoutoenableordisableautomaticallyexportingcaptured
    consoledata.
    •ExportBoot/FaultBufferenablesyoutospecifytheURLlocationofawebserverthataccepts
    aPUTorPOSTMethoddatatransfer.Forexample:http://192.168.1.1/images/
    capture%h%t.ilotransferstheinternal-capturebufferstoawebserverattheIPaddress
    192.168.1.1,andstoresthedataintheimagesfolderusingthefilename
    captureServerNameDateTime-Boot(or Fault).ilo.

    possiblemodesavailableare:inuserawmode,orinusenormalmode.Iftheconnectionis
    inuse,theDisconnectbuttonisavailableandcanbeusedtodisconnectaVirtualSerialPort
    connection.RawmodeindicatesthataclientisconnectedusingtheWiLODbg.exeutility
    whichisusedforremoteWindowskerneldebugging.
    HotKeysenableyoutodefinekeystrokesequencesthataretransmittedtotheremotehostserver
    bypressingahotkey.RemoteConsolehotkeysallowspecifickeysequencessuchasAlt+Taband
    Alt+SysRqtobepassedtotheserverfromtheRemoteConsoleJavasession.Formoreinformation,

    Remoteconsolehotkeys
    TheProgramRemoteConsoleHotKeyspageenablesyoutodefineuptosixmultiplekey
    combinationsassignedtoeachhotkey.WhenahotkeyispressedintheRemoteConsole,on
    clientsystems,thedefinedkeycombination(allkeyspressedatthesametime)aretransmittedin
    placeofthehotkeytotheremotehostserver.ToaccessAltGrsymbolsoninternationalkeyboards,
    usehotkeystodefinethesesymbols.Foralistofsupporthotkeys,see(“Supportedhotkeys”(page
    84).
    RemoteconsolehotkeysareactiveduringaRemoteConsolesessionthroughtheIRC,Remote
    Consoleapplet,andduringatextRemoteConsolesessionthroughaTelnetclient.Whenusing
    theIRC,keyboardLEDstatesforNumLock,CapsLockandScrollLockontheclientkeyboarddo

    astheremotehost.Toreturntoyourclientdesktop,exittheconsole.
    IntegratedRemoteConsoleFullscreencausesyourclienttoresizetothesameresolutionasthe
    remoteserver.IntegratedRemoteConsoleFullscreenattemptstopickthebestclientdisplaysettings
    forthatresolution;however,somemonitorsmighthavetroublewiththehighestscreenrefreshrates
    supportedbythevideoadapter.Ifthisoccurs,checkyourdesktoppropertiesbyright-clickingon
    theDesktopandselectingProperties>Settings>Advanced>Monitorandselectalowerscreenrefresh

    HighPerformanceMousesettings
    WhenusingtheRemoteConsole,youcanenabletheHighPerformanceMousefeature.Thisfeature
    greatlyimprovespointerperformanceandaccuracyonsupportedoperatingsystems.iLO2High
    PerformanceMouseisapointingdevicethatprovidesabsolutepositioncoordinatestodescribe
    itslocationsimilartoaUSBtabletmouse.Aconventionalmousesendsrelativepositioninformation
    (suchasthemousehasmoved12pixelstotheright).Thehostcomputercanmodifyrelativeposition
    informationtoenablefeatureslikemouseacceleration.WhenusingtheRemoteConsole,theclient
    isnotawareofthesemodifications.Therefore,synchronizationbetweentheclientandhostmouse
    cursorsfails.

    							BoththeIntegratedRemoteConsoleandtheRemoteConsoleappletssendabsoluteandrelative
    mousecursorcoordinatestoiLO2.WheniLO2isinHighPerformanceMousemode,itdiscards
    therelativecoordinatesandsendstheabsolutecoordinatestotheUSBtabletmouseemulator.The
    resultisthattheserver"sees"themousemoveasifthecoordinateinformationhadoriginatedfrom
    alocalUSBtabletmouse.WheniLO2isnotinHighPerformanceMousemode,theabsolute
    coordinatesarediscardedandtherelativecoordinatesaresenttotheUSBrelativemouseemulator.
    High-PerformanceMouseissupportedonlyonoperatingsystemsthatsupportUSBtabletmouse.
    WindowsusersmustenabletheHighPerformanceMouseoptionontheRemoteConsoleSettings
    screen.LinuxusersmustenabletheHighPerformancemouseoptiononcetheiLO2High
    PerformanceMouseforLinuxdriverisinstalled.Otheroperatingsystemserversexperiencing
    RemoteConsolemousetroublemustdisabletheHighPerformanceMouseoption.
    WhenusingIntegratedRemoteConsolefromiLO2andSmartStart,thelocalmouseandremote
    mousedonotstayaligned.TheHighPerformanceMousesettingmustbedisabledwhilein
    SmartStart.IfthelocalmouseandremotemousegetoutofalignmentwhileyouareusingtheHigh
    PerformanceMousefeature,youcanusetherightCtrlkeytorealignthem.Alternatively,youcan
    usetheJavaRemoteConsoleinsteadofIntegratedRemoteConsole.
    TheHighPerformanceMouseoptionalleviatesallmousesynchronizationissuesonsupportedhost
    operatingsystems.YoucanselectthismodeontheRemoteConsoleSettingspagebeforestarting
    aRemoteConsole.However,itmightnotbesupportedbyalloperatingsystems,particularlyduring
    installation.Forbestperformance:
    •SelectalowerremoteserverscreenresolutiontoimprovetheperformanceoftheRemote
    Console.Themaximumsupportedresolutionis1280x1024pixels.

    •Thecolorqualityoftheremoteserverhasnoeffectontheperformanceoftheremoteconsole.
    TheRemoteConsoleisrenderedin4096(12-bit)colors.
    •Useanon-animatedmousepointerontheremotesystem.
    •Disablemousetrailsontheremotesystem.

    areencryptedbyauthenticatingtheclientfirst,andthenthesessionleaderdecideswhetherto
    allowthenewconnection.
    ThefirstusertoinitiateaRemoteConsolesessionconnectstotheservernormallyandisdesignated
    asthesessionleader(sessionhost.)AnysubsequentuserrequestingRemoteConsoleaccessinitiates
    anaccessrequest,requestingasatelliteclientconnection,callingthesessionleader.Apop-upfor
    eachsatelliteclientrequestappearsonthesessionleader'sdesktop,identifyingtherequester's
    usernameandDNSname(ifavailable)orIPaddress.
    Sessionhostshavetheoptiontograntordenyaccess.Alistofusersandsessionhostnames
    appearswithintheremoteconsolebrowserframe.Satelliteclientsessionsterminatewhenthe
    sessionhostisterminated.
    SharedsessionsdonotoperatewellwiththeConsoleCaptureandreplayfeaturesofiLO2.Ifa
    satellitesessionisviewingacapturedsession,duringtheplaybacktime,thesatellitesessionwill
    notreceivesessionleadercontrolmessages.Ifthesessionhoststartstoviewcapturedvideodata
    duringasharedsession,thevideoappearsonallsatelliteRemoteConsolesessions.
    UsingConsoleCapture
    ConsoleCaptureisaRemoteConsolefeaturethatenablesyoutorecordandreplayavideostream
    ofeventssuchasbooting,ASRevents,andsensedoperatingsystemfaults.Youcanalsomanually
    startandstoptherecordingofconsolevideo.ConsoleCaptureisonlyavailablethroughtheiLO
    2userinterfaceandcannotbeaccessedthroughXMLscriptingortheCLP.ConsoleCaptureisa
    licensedfeatureavailablewiththepurchaseofoptionallicenses.Formoreinformation,see

    Abufferareaissetasideinthemanagementprocessortostorecapturedvideodata.Thisbuffer
    areaissharedwiththefirmwareupdatebuffer,soanyinformationcapturedislostwhenyoustart
    thefirmwareupdateprocess.Youcannotcapturevideodataduringthefirmwareupdateprocess.
    Bufferspaceislimited.Onlyoneofeachtypeofeventisstoredinthebufferareaatatime.You
    cantransfercaptureddatabufferstoaclientrunningtheIRCforreplay.Youcanalsoconfigure
    iLO2toautomaticallysendcapturedvideodatatoawebserveronthesamenetworkastheiLO
    2whenaneventoccurs.ThewebservermustacceptPOST-methoddatatransfers.Youcanselect
    Bootbufferonly,Faultbuffer,orcombinethembothasonelargebuffertohavemoreroomto
    captureLinuxbootsequences.
    Exportedbufferdataisgivenauniquenametoeasilyidentifythedataforplayback.Playback
    requiresalicensediLO2onthenetwork.Someoperatingsystems(suchasLinux)canfillthebuffer
    quickly.Ifyouleavethesystemconsoleintextmode,ithelpsmaximizetheamountofinformation
    captured.Also,closingorreducingthenumberofactivegraphicalconsoleelementshelpsoptimize
    internalbufferspace.
    YoucanmanuallycapturevideooftheserverconsoleusingtheIRCRecordfeature.Allmanually
    captureddataisstoredinalocalfileontheclientforlaterplayback.
    UsingHPiLOVideoPlayer
    HPiLOVideoPlayerenablesyoutoplaybackiLO2consolecapturefileswithoutinstallingiLO2
    onyourlocalsystem.iLOVideoPlayerisdesignedasatypicalmediaplayerwithsimilarcontrols.
    YoucanruniLOVideoPlayerasastandaloneapplicationoneitheraserverorclient.Typically,
    theapplicationislocatedontheclient.iLO2capturefilesarecreatedusingiLO2ConsoleCapture
    feature,see“UsingConsoleCapture”(page90).
    TouseiLOVideoPlayer,youmusthaveaMicrosoftWindows2000,WindowsXP,orWindows
    Vistaoperatingsystems,andInternetExplorer(version7orlater)installedonyoursystem.
