    3. Recording Modes
    Registering your preferred settings (Custom Mode)
    Recording Mode: 
    You can register the current camera settings as custom settings.
    If you then record in Custom Mode, you can use the registered s ettings.
    •
    Initial setting of the Program AE Mode is registered as the cus tom settings initially.
    To allow recording using the same settings, up to 5 sets of current camera settings can be 
    registered using [Cust.Set Mem.]. (

    Preparations:
    Set in advance the Recording Mode you wish to save and select t he desired menu 
    settings on the camera.
    1Select the menu.  (P63)
    2Press  3/4 to select the custom set to register and then press 
    [MENU/SET].
    •Confirmation screen is displayed. It is executed when [Yes] is  selected.
    Exit the menu after it is executed.
    •The following menu items are not registered as custom settings.

     You can easily call up the settings you have registered using [Cust.Set Mem.].
    Set the mode dial to [ ], [ ] or [ ].
    •The custom set will be called up. If you set the mode dial to [ ], the custom set you used last 
    time ([ ], [ ], or [ ]) will be called up.
    ∫ To change a custom set in [ ]
    1Set the mode dial to [ ].
    2Press [MENU/SET] to display the menu.
    3Press  2/1 to select the custom setting you want to use, and then 
    press [MENU/SET].
    •Saving of the selected custom settings is displayed on the screen.
    ∫ Changing the settings
    Registered contents do not change when the menu setting is chan ged temporarily with the 
    mode dial set to  ,   or  . To change the registered settings, overwrite the 
    registered content using [Cust.Set Mem.] on the custom settings  menu.

    Settings
    Adjusting the Picture Quality by Adding an 
    Effect 
    ([Photo Style])
    Applicable modes: 
    You can select effects to match the type of image you wish to r ecord.
    It is possible to adjust the items such as color or picture qua lity of the effect to your desire.
    ¢1 This is disabled when Intelligent Auto Plus Mode is selected.
    ¢ 2 These can be set only in Creative Video Mode.
    ¢ 3 When the actual brightness and the brightness to be captured a re adjusted at each 
    brightness level, the relationship between these two kinds of brightness is plotted as a 
    nonlinear curve. This is called the gamma curve.
    •In Intelligent Auto Plus Mode, the setting will be reset to [St andard] when the camera is 
    switched to another Recording Mode or this unit is turned on an d off.
    •Those menu items are shared by the [Rec] menu and the [Motion P icture] menu. When the 
    setting for either of the two is changed, the setting for the o ther is also changed.

    This is the standard setting.
     [Vivid]¢1Brilliant effect with high saturation and contrast.
     [Natural]¢1Soft effect with low saturation.
     [Monochrome]
    Monochrome effect with no color shades.
     [Scenery]¢1An effect appropriate for sceneries with vivid blue skies and 
    greens.
     [Portrait]¢ 1An effect appropriate for portraits with a healthy and beautifu l 
    skin tone.
     [Custom]¢ 1Use the setting registered in advance.
     [Cinelike D]¢2Gives priority to the dynamic range by using a gamma curve¢3 
    designed to create film-like images. Suited for editing.
     [Cinelike V]¢ 2Gives priority to the contrast by using a gamma curve¢3 
    designed to create film-like images.

    ∫Adjusting the picture quality
    •Picture quality cannot be adjusted in the Intelligent Auto Plus  
    Mode.
    1Press  2/1  to select the type of Photo Style.2Press  3/4  to select the items, and then press  2/1  
    to adjust.
    ¢ 1 [Color Tone] is displayed only when [Monochrome] is selected.  In other cases, 
    [Saturation] will be displayed.
    ¢ 2 Displayed only when [Monochrome] is selected.
    •If you adjust the picture quality, [ _] is displayed beside the Photo Style icon on the screen.
    3Press [MENU/SET].
    ∫ Registering settings to [Custom]
    Adjust the picture quality following step 
    2 of “Adjusting the picture quality”, and 
    then press [DISP.].•Confirmation screen is displayed . It is executed when [Yes] is selected.
     [Contrast]
    [r ] Increases the difference between the brightness and 
    the darkness in the picture.
    [
    s ] Decreases the difference between the brightness 
    and the darkness in the picture.
     [Sharpness][
    r ] The picture is sharply defined.
    [s ] The picture is softly focused.
     [Noise Reduction]
    [r ] The noise reduction effect is enhanced.
    Picture resolution may deteriorate slightly.

    s ] The noise reduction effect is reduced. You can obtain 
    pictures with higher resolution.
     [Saturation]¢
    1[r ] The colors in the picture become vivid.
    [s ] The colors in the picture become natural.
     [Color Tone]¢1[r ] Adds a bluish tone.
    [s ] Adds a yellowish tone.
     [Filter Effect]¢2
    [Yellow] Enhances the contrast of an subject. (Effect: Weak)
    The blue sky can be recorded clearly.
    [Orange] Enhances the contrast of an subject. (Effect: 
    Medium)
    The blue sky can be recorded in darker blue.
    [Red]
    Enhances the contrast of an subject. (Effect: Strong)
    The blue sky can be recorded in much darker blue.
    [Green] The skin and lips of people appear in natural tones.
    Green leaves appear brighter and more enhanced.

    Recording Images with Image Effects 
    ([Filter Settings])
    Applicable modes: 
    You can apply image effects (filters) that are available for Cr eative Control Mode to images 
    in other modes, such as Aperture-Priority AE Mode or Panorama S hot Mode.
    •
    You can apply image effects that are available for Creative 
    Control Mode by performing the same operations as those for 
    Creative Control Mode. For information on each image effect, it s 
    adjustable settings, and other details, refer to  P107.
    •If no image effect is to be added, select [No Effect].

    •[Rough Monochrome]/[Silky Monochrome]/[Miniature Effect]¢/[Soft Focus]/[Star Filter]/
    [Sunshine] are not available in the following cases.
    –Creative Video Mode–When recording motion pictures
    –When recording 4K photos
    ¢  In Creative Video Mode or when  recording motion pictures, this item is not available only if 
    the motion picture size is set to [4K] in [Rec Quality].
    •[Toy Effect]/[Toy Pop]/[Miniature Effect]/[Sunshine] are not av ailable in Panorama Shot Mode.•The image effects of [Rough Monochrome]/[Silky Monochrome]/[Sof t Focus]/[Star Filter] are not 
    visible on the screen when taking panorama pictures. 
    •Using [High Key] in Panorama Shot Mode may not be effective in  dimly-lit conditions.•Using [Impressive Art] in Panorama Shot Mode may cause seams be tween pictures to become 
    noticeable.
    •The available ISO sensitivity settings will be limited up to [I SO 3200]. The ISO sensitivity for 
    [High Dynamic] will be fixed to [AUTO].
    •When using [Filter Select], you cannot use menus or recording f unctions not available in 
    Creative Control Mode.
    For example, White Balance will be fixed to [AWB] and the flash  will be set to [Œ] (forced flash off).•The settings will be stored even if you change recording mode or turn off the camera.
    •Those menu items are shared by the [Rec] menu and the [Motion P icture] menu. When the 
    setting for either of the two is changed, the setting for the o ther is also changed.

    You can press the shutter button once and take two pictures simultaneously, one with an 
    image effect and the other one without it.
    Settings: [ON]/[OFF]
    •
    When this item is set to [ON], a picture with an image effect w ill be taken first, followed by a 
    picture without it.
    •Only an image with an image effect is displayed for Auto Review .
    •If the drive mode is set to [Burst], [4K PHOTO] or [Auto Bracket], it is switched to [Single].
    Not available in these cases:
    •In the following case, [Simultaneous record w/o filter] does no t work:–Panorama Shot Mode–When recording motion pictures
    –Recording still pictures while recording a motion picture [only when set to [ ] ([Video 
    Priority])]
    –When [Filter Select] is set to [No Effect]
    –When [Quality] is set to [ ], [ ] or [ ]–When using [Time Lapse Shot]–When using [Stop Motion Animation]

    Adjusting Bright/Dark Portions ([Highlight Shadow])
    You can adjust the brightness of bright and dark portions on an image while checking the 
    brightness on the screen.
    1Select the menu. (P63)
    2Press  2/1 to select the item.
    3Rotate the front/rear dial to adjust the 
    brightness of bright/dark portions.
    A Bright portion
    B Dark portion
    C Preview display
    •The rear dial is for adjusting dark areas, and the front 
    dial is for adjusting bright areas.
    •To register a preferred setting, press  3, and select the 
    destination where the custom setting will be registered to 
    ([Custom1] (
    )/[Custom2] ( )/[Custom3] ( )).•Adjustments can also be made by dragging the graph.
    4Press [MENU/SET].
    •The screen display can be switched by pressing [DISP.] on the b rightness adjustment screen.
    •Settings registered to  / / will be stored even after this unit is turned off.•Turning off this unit will return the setting adjusted with/// back to the default setting.

    Adjusting the White Balance
    Applicable modes: 
    In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the color of white 
    takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the co lor of white which is closest to 
    what is seen by the eye in acc ordance with the light source.
    1Press 1 ( ).
    2Rotate the rear dial or front dial to select the 
    White Balance.

    [V ] When taking pictures outdoors under a clear sky

    etc. so that the frame in the center is filled by 
    the white object only and then press [MENU/SET].

    This will set the White Balance and return you to the recording  
    screen.
    •The same operation can be performed by pressing the shutter but ton.•White Balance may not be set when the subject is too bright or too 
    dark. Set the White Balance again after adjusting to appropriat e 
    brightness.

    ¢ It will operate as [AWB] when recording motion pictures or 4K photos.

    •You can also press the shutter button halfway to set.

    You can set the color temperature manually for 
    taking natural pictures in different lighting 
    conditions.
    The color of light is measured as a number in 
    degrees Kelvin. As the color temperature 
    increases, the picture becomes more bluish. As the color 
    temperature decreases, the picture becomes more reddish.
    1 Press  3.
    2 Press  3/4 to select the color temperature and then press 
    [MENU/SET].
    •
    You can set a color temperature from [2500K] to [10000K].
    Under fluorescent lighting, LED lighting fixture etc., the appr opriate White Balance 
    will vary depending on the lighting type, so use [AWB] or [ ], [ ], [ ], [ ].
