    (Optional)
    Applicable modes:
You can attach a flash (DMW-FL360L/DMW-FL580L: optional) and take pictures with it.
    •
Read the operating instructions of the external flash for how t o attach the external flash.
    ∫Removing the Hot Shoe Cover

Remove the hot shoe cover by pulling it in the direction
    indicated by arrow 2
while pressing it in the direction
    indicated by arrow 1
    .
    •
When the hot shoe is not in use, make sure to attach the hot
    shoe cover.
•Please be careful not to lose the hot shoe cover.•Keep the Hot Shoe Cover out of reach of children to prevent
    swallowing.
Forcing the flash off ([ Œ])
In situations where pictures cannot be taken with the flash, su ch as when the external
flash is turned off or when you are recording a motion picture, [Œ] (forced flash off) is
displayed on the recording screen and the flash does not fire.
In the following cases, the flash is fixed to [ Œ] (forced flash off).
    •
    When recording motion pictures
•When recording 4K photos•When using the electronic shutter•When [HDR] is set to [ON]
•When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON]•When an image effect in [Filter Select] of [Filter Settings] is set
    Using the flash skillfully
•When recording with the flash, white saturation can occur if th e subject is too close.
If [Highlight] of the [Custom] menu is set to [ON], regions of white saturation will blink black
and white when you play back or use Auto Review. In this case, we recommend that you
adjust [Flash Adjust.] (P232) in the minus direction and record the pictures again.
•When taking pictures with flash with the lens hood attached, th e lower portion of the photo
may turn dark and the control of the flash may be disabled beca use the photo flash may be
obscured by the lens hood. We recommend detaching the lens hood .

    8. Stabilizer, Zoom and Flash
•Do not bring any objects near the flash. The heat and light from the flash may cause the objects
    to deform or discolor.
•It may take time to charge the flash if you repeatedly take pictures. You must wait a moment to
take the next picture while the flash icon is blinking red indicating the flash is charging. Take a
picture after the access indication disappears.
•You can set the aperture value, the shutter speed and the ISO s ensitivity on the camera even
    when attaching the external flash.
•If you use the external flash when the White Balance is set to [ ], finely adjust the White
Balance depending on the picture quality. (P131)
•If you record at close range with a wide angle, light from the flash may be blocked by the lens,
darkening the lower part of the screen.
•The camera will become unstable when attaching the external fla sh, it is recommended to use
    a tripod when taking picture.
•When attaching the external flash, do not hold only the externa l flash because it may detach
    from the camera.
•Even if the external flash is turned off, the camera may enter the external flash mode when the
external flash is attached. Rem ove the external flash when it is not in use or when you carry it.
•Do not use commercially available external flashes with high-vo ltage synchro terminals,
reverse polarity or functions that enable them to communicate w ith the camera. Doing so may
cause the camera to malfunction or operate incorrectly.
•Read the operating instructions of the external flash for detai ls.
When using other commercially available external flashes withou t
    communication functions with the camera
    •
It is necessary to set the exposure on the external flash. If y ou want to use the external flash
in Auto Mode, use an external flash that allows you to set the aperture value and the ISO
sensitivity to match the settings on the camera.
•Set to Aperture-Priority AE Mode or Manual Exposure Mode on the camera and then set the
same aperture value and ISO sensitivity on the external flash. (The exposure cannot be
compensated adequately due to the change on the aperture value in Shutter-Priority AE
Mode and the external flash cannot control the light adequately in Program AE Mode
because the aperture value cannot be fixed.)
