    Applicable modes: 
    2nd curtain synchro activates the flash just before the shutter closes when taking pictures 
    of moving objects such as cars using a slow shutter speed.
    1Select the menu.  (P63)
    2Press 3/4  to select the item and then press [MENU/SET].

    Set it to [1ST] for normal use.
    •[2nd] is displayed in the flash icon on the screen if you set [ Flash Synchro] to [2ND].•Only available when [Wireless] in [Flash] is set to [OFF]. (P234)•When a fast shutter speed is set, the effect of [Flash Synchro] may deteriorate.
    •You cannot set [ ] or [ ] when [Flash Synchro] is set to [2ND].

    Adjust the flash brightness when pictures taken with the flash are over or underexposed.
    1Select the menu. (P63)
    2Press 2/1  to set the flash output and then press [MENU/SET] .
    •You can adjust from [ j3 EV] to [ i3 EV] in steps of 1/3 EV.
    •Select [ n0] to return to the original flash output.
    •[i] or [j] is displayed on the flash icon in the screen when the flash l evel is adjusted.•It can be set only when [Wireless]  in [Flash]  is set to  [OFF] a nd [Firing Mode] is set to [TTL].

    Taking Pictures with Wireless Flashes
    By using flashes that support wireless recording (DMW-FL360L/DMW-FL580L: optional), 
    you can separately c ontrol the firing of three flash groups and  the flash attached to the hot 
    shoe of the camera. Applicable modes: 
    ∫ Placing wireless flashes
    Place the wireless flash with it s wireless sensor facing toward  the camera.
    The following figure shows the estimated controllable range whe n you take pictures by 
    holding the camera horizontally. Controllable range differs depending on the surrounding 
    environment.

    In this placement example, flash C is placed to erase the shado w of the subject that flashes A 
    and B will create.
    •The recommended number of wirele ss flashes for each group is three or less.•If the subject is too close, signal flashing may affect the exp osure.
    If you set [Communication Light] to [LOW] or lower the output w ith a diffuser or similar product, 
    the effect will be reduced.

    Preparations:
    Attach the flash (DMW-FL360L/DMW-FL580L: optional) to the camera.
    1Set the wireless flashes to RC Mode and then place them.
    •Set a channel and groups for the wireless flash.
    2Select the menu. (P63)
    3Press 3/4 to select [ON] and then press [MENU/SET].
    •When [Wireless]  is set to [ON], [WL] is displayed on the flash  icon on the recording 
    screen.
    4Press  3/4 to select [Wireless Channel] and then press [MENU/SET].
    5Press  3/4 to select the channel and then press [MENU/SET].
    •Select the channel you have set for the wireless flashes in ste p 1.
    6Press 3/4 to select [Wireless Setup] and then press [MENU/SET].
    7Press  3/4 to select an item and then press [MENU/SET].

    Set the flash output of the camera manually when [Firing Mode]  is set to 
    [TTL].

    Set the luminosity ratio of the external flash when [Firing Mode] is set to 
    [MANUAL].

    During wireless recording, an external flash fires an FP flash (high speed repetition of flash 
    firing). This firing allows recording with the flash at a fast  shutter speed.

    9.  Recording Motion Pictures
    Recording Motion Picture
    Applicable modes: 
    This camera can record full high definition motion pictures com patible with the AVCHD 
    format or motion pictures recorded in MP4.
    In addition, the camera can record 4K motion pictures in MP4.  (P240)
    Audio will be recorded in stereo.
    1Start recording by pressing the motion 
    picture button.

    •Recording of motion picture appropriate for each mode is 
    possible.
    •The recording state indicator (red)  C will flash while 
    recording motion pictures.
    •If no operation is performed, part of the information on 
    the screen will gradually become darker after 
    approximately 10 seconds has passed, and will no 
    longer be displayed after approximately 1 minute has 
    passed.
    Pressing the [DISP.] button or touching the monitor will 
    make the display reappear.
    This operation is to prevent screen burn-in and is not a malfun ction.
    •Release the motion picture button right after you press it.
    2Stop the recording by pressing the motion picture button again.
    •Still picture recording is also possible during the motion picture recording by fully 
    pressing the shutter button.  (P244)

    About the operation sound that is produced when you stop recording
    Since motion picture recording stops only after you press the m otion picture button, the 
    sound of the operation may be noticeable. If the sound bothers  you, try the following:
    –
    Divide the last part of the moti on picture using [Video Divide]  (P274)  in the [Playback] 
    menu.
    The motion picture may not be divided near the very end of it.  To avoid this, record 
    approximately 3 seconds longer.
    –Set the camera to Creative Video Mode, and use a shutter remote  control (optional) to 
    record motion pictures.  (P354)
    Enabling/disabling the motion picture button
    >  [Custom]  > [Video Button] >  [ON]/[OFF]
    •
    This function is for preventing accidental operation of the but ton.
    Switching between the angle of view for taking pictures and the  one for 
    recording motion pictures
    >  [Custom]  > [Rec Area]  > [! ]

    •
    When the aspect ratio setting is different in still and motion  pictures, the angle of view 
    changes at the start of motion picture recording.
    When [Rec Area] is set to [ ], angle of view during motion pictu re recording is displayed.
    •The recording area indicated is an approximation.
    •[Rec Area] is not available for 4K photo recording.

    9. Recording Motion Pictures
    •When the ambient temperature is high or motion picture is recorded continuously, the camera 
    may display [ ] and stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the camera cools down.
    •The operational sound of the zoom or button operation may be re corded when it is operated 
    during the recording of a motion picture.
    •The available recording time displayed on the screen may not decrease regularly.•Depending on the type of the card, the card access indication m ay appear for a while after 
    recording motion pictures. This is not a malfunction.
    •The [Sensitivity] will be set to [AUTO] (for motion pictures) w hen recording motion pictures. 
    Also, the [ISO Limit Set] will not operate.
    •Even if [Operation Mode] in [Stabilizer] is set to [ ], [ ] will  operate in motion picture 
    recording.
    •It is recommended to use a fully charged battery or AC adaptor  (optional) when recording 
    motion pictures.  (P355)
    •If while recording motion pictur es using the AC adaptor (optional) the power supply is cut off 
    due to a power cut or if the AC adaptor (optional) is disconnec ted etc., the motion picture will 
    not be recorded.
    •The functions available when recording motion pictures differ a ccording to the lens you are 
    using, and the operational sound of the lens may be recorded. R efer to the website for 
    compatible lenses.
    •It will be recorded in the following categories for certain Rec ording Modes. A motion picture 
    recording matching each Recording Mode will be performed for th e ones not listed below.
    Not available in these cases:
    •
    Motion pictures cannot be recorded in the following cases.
    –[Rough Monochrome]/[Silky Monochrome]/[Miniature Effect]¢/[Soft Focus]/[Star Filter]/
    [Sunshine] (Creative Control Mode)
    ¢ Only when the motion picture size is set to [4K] in [Rec Qualit y]
    –When using [Time Lapse Shot]–When using [Stop Motion Animation]

    Applicable modes: 
    You can create finely-detailed motion pictures in 4K by recording motion pictures with their 
    size set to [4K] in [Rec Quality].
    •
    When recording motion pictures in 4K, use a card rated as UHS S peed Class 3. (P22)
    •The angle of view of motion pictures in 4K is narrower than tho se of motion pictures in other 
    sizes.
    To record motion pictures in 4K:
    1 Set [Rec Format] in the [Motion Picture] menu to [MP4].  (P241)
    2 Set [Rec Quality] in the [Motion Picture] menu to [4K/100M/30p]  or [4K/100M/24p].

    3 Start recording by pressing the motion picture button.
    4 Stop the recording by pressing the motion picture button again.
    •
    The camera performs recording with highly accurate focus at a r educed Auto Focus speed. As 
    a result, it may sometimes be difficult to focus with Auto Focu s. This is not a malfunction.
