    8 Scanning
This chapter describes the scan driver (TWAIN driver) and the scan application (Button
Manager), and provides the basic scanning procedure.
The Scan Driver (TWAIN driver) and Button Manager
This section provides information on the TWAIN driver and Button Manager.
    TWAIN driver
The TWAIN driver allows you to acquire an image that is scanned on the machine. You
can import a scanned image to a computer through the TWAIN driver.
For information on how to install the scan driver (TWAIN driver), refer to Installing the Print Driver and the Scan
    Driver (TWAIN driver) (P.34).
    Button Manager
Button Manager is a scanner application that can be installed on a computer, which
allows you to scan a document that has been loaded on the machine, and to convert
the scanned document into a BITMAP file, a PDF file, or a TIFF file. This scanner
application uses the TWAIN driver to acquire images scanned on the machine, so the
TWAIN driver must be installed on the computer in order to use this application.
For information on how to install Button Manager, refer to Installing the Scanner Application (Button Manager)
    (P.38).
Scanning Procedure (Using the TWAIN driver)
The following procedure describes a basic scanning procedure when using the TWAIN
    driver.
    1.Load a document.
    • When scanning a document from the Document Feeder
    1) Place a document face up in the
    center of the Document Feeder.
Note • The indicator on the Machine
Diagram (mimic) lights up when a
document is loaded correctly in the
    Document Feeder. If the indicator
does not light up, the document
may not be loaded properly in the
    Document Feeder.

    2) Adjust the document guides to just
touch the edges of the loaded
    document.
Note • If the size of the loaded document
is smaller than any standard sizes,
the edges of the loaded document
    may create shadow, and may
appear to have an outline on the
    scanned image.
    • When scanning a document from the Document Glass
    1) Open the Document Cover.
    2) Place a document face down on the
Document Glass, and align it to the
    top left corner.

is smaller than any standard sizes,
the edges of the loaded document
    may create shadow, and may
appear to have an outline on the
    scanned image.
    3) Close the Document Cover.
2.Start any TWAIN-compliant application on the computer.
3.Select a command from the menu in the TWAIN-compliant application to display
