    Basic
    •Use a battery with sufficient battery power when formatting. Do not turn the camera off during 
    formatting.
    •If a card has been inserted, only the card is formatted. To format the built-in memory, remove 
    the card.
    •If the card has been formatted on a PC or other equipment, format it on the camera again.•It may take longer to format the built-in memory than the card.•If you cannot format, contact the dealer or your nearest Service Centre.
    •If you set a different language by mistake, select [ ~] from the menu icons to set the desired 
    language.
    •The Stabiliser function is switched between [On]  and [Off] every time [Stabilizer] is touched 
    during the [Stabilizer Demo.].
    •[Stabilizer Demo.] is an approximation.•[Auto Demo] is not output to the television.
    [Format]The built-in memory or card is formatted (Pictures in My Photo 
    Album are also formatted).  Formatting irretrievably deletes all 
    the data so check the data carefully before formatting.
    [Language]Set the language displayed on the screen.
    [Demo Mode]
    Displays the amount of jitter the camera has detected. ([Stabilizer 
    Demo.])
    The camera’s features are displayed as slide shows. ([Auto Demo])

    •During Playback Zoom, while playing back motion pictures and during a 
    slide show, you can only select “Normal display G” or “No display I”.

    Applicable modes: 
    Taking pictures using the touch operation 
    (Touch Shutter function)
    Just by touching the subject to focus, it will focus on the subject and take the picture 
    automatically.
    To u c h  [ ] .
    •Icon will change to [ ], and taking a picture with 
    the Touch Shutter function becomes possible.: Touch Shutter enabled
    : Touch Shutter disabled
    Touch the subject you wish to 
    focus on, and then take a picture.
    •AF area is displayed at the position you touch, and a picture is taken. (It cannot be set to 
    edge of the screen)
    Touch [ ] to cancel the Touch Shutter function.
    Note
    •Touch Shutter setting is memorised even if the camera is turned off.•You cannot record motion pictures with the Touch Shutter.

    Applicable modes: 
    Match the focusing and exposure to a desired 
    subject using touch operations
     (Touch AF/AE)
    It is possible to set the focus and exposure to the subject specified on the touch screen.
    •Perform the operation after cancelling the touch shutter function.
    Touch the subject you wish to focus on.
    •The AF area can be set freely at a position on the screen. (Cannot be set at the edge of 
    the screen)
    •Action will vary depending on the setting of [AF Mode]  (P84).•Touch AF/AE will be fixed to AF Tracking during Intelligent Auto Mode and the most 
    appropriate scene will be determi ned for the touched subject.
    •Touch [ ] to go back to the original Focus Mode.
    Press the shutter button halfway to focus and then press it fully to 
    take the picture.

    •In [š ] ([Face Detection]), the AF 
    area turns yellow when touched.

    •When it is set to [ Ù] ([Spot]), AF 
    area [ Ù] ([Spot]) is displayed.

    •The AF area turns yellow and the subject is locked. The 
    camera will continuously adjust the focus and exposure 
    automatically, following the movement of the subject.

    ∫Setting up [ ] (AF Tracking)
    •
    The AF tracking frame will turn red and then turn off if the lock fails. Try to lock the frame again.•The camera records pictures with [AF Mode] as [ ] when locked or Dynamic Tracking is not 
    working.
    •AF Tracking is cancelled when the Touch Shutter is set to [ ].•It cannot be set to [ ] in the following conditions–In [Sepia], [Dynamic Monochrome], [High Dynamic], [Toy Effect], [Miniature Effect] or 
    [Soft Focus] in Creative Control Mode
    –In [Panorama Shot] in Scene Mode–In [B&W] or [Sepia] in [Color Mode].•The lock may fail in cases with th e following recording conditions.–When the subject is too small–When the recording location is too dark or bright–When the subject is moving too fast–When another subject or background is similar in colour to the subject–When jitter is occurring–When using the zoom

    Using zoom
    You can zoom in to make people and objects appear closer or zoom out to record 
    landscapes in wide angle.
    Setting the number of pixels to 8M or less will operate the Extra Optical Zoom to take 
    zoomed pictures without affecting quality.
    ∫ Types of zooms
    ¢1 This includes the optical zoom magnification. The magnification level differs depending on 
    [Picture Size] setting.
    The zoom functions below can also be used  to further increase the zoom magnification.
    ¢2 This is 2 k magnification when [i.Resolution] in [Rec] menu is set to [i.Zoom].

    When using the Zoom function, an estimate of the focus range will appear in 
    conjunction with the zoom display bar. (Example: 0.5 m (1.64 ft.) – ¶)
    Note
    •The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation.•“EZ” is an abbreviation of “Extra Optical Zoom”. It is possible to take more magnified pictures 
    with the optical zoom.
    •The lens barrel extends or retracts according to the zoom position. Take care not to interrupt 
    the motion of the lens barrel while the zoom lever is rotated.
    •When using the Digital Zoom, we recommend using a tripod and the self-timer  (P78) for taking 
    pictures.

    Recording Mode: 
    Taking Pictures with different image effects
    (Creative Control Mode)
    You can add effects to the image as you record. You can set the effects you are adding as 
    checking the recording screen.
    Touch the Recording Mode icon in Recording Mode.
    On the Recording Mode list screen, touch 
    [Creative Control].
    Touch the Creative Control Mode to set.
    •The page can be changed by touching [ ]/[ ].•When [Toy Effect] is selected, you can change between cool, standard and warm 
    colours by touching colour icons.

    ItemEffect
    [Expressive] This is a pop art style image effect that emphasises the colour.
    [Retro] This is a soft image effect that gives the appearance of a tarnished 
    photograph.
    [High Key] This effect brightens the image as a whole and creates a soft and 
    light ambience.
    [Low Key] This effect creates a dark and peaceful atmosphere in the image as 
    a whole, making bright areas stand out.
    [Sepia] A sepia colour image effect.
    [Dynamic Monochrome]This effect gives a powerful monochrome picture by increasing the 
    contrast.
    [High Dynamic] From dark areas to light areas, this effect creates a well-balanced 
    light across the entire image.
    [Toy Effect] This effect produces vignetting, making it look like the image was 
    taken with a toy camera.
    [Miniature Effect] This is an imaging effect which defocuses the surroundings to make 
    it look like a diorama.
    (also known as Tilt Shift Focus)
    [Soft Focus] This effect adds slight blurring over the entire image to give an 
    atmosphere of softness.

    Note
    •
    Creative Control Modes can be changed by touching [Creative Control] from the menu screen.•Creative Control settings are memorised even if the camera is turned off.•Because the camera is adjusted automatically during Creative Control Mode, the settings 
    cannot be made for [Sensitivity], [White Balance], [i.Exposure], [Min. Shtr Speed], or 
    [Color Mode].
    •When recording using [Soft Focus]–Display of the recording screen will be delayed more than usual and the screen will look as if 
    frames are dropping.
    –When taking pictures of a large size, the screen may turn black after taking the picture 
    because of signal processing. This is not a malfunction.
