- 61 - Recording With [Miniature Effect] you can make the subject stand out by intentionally creating defocused and in-focus portions. You can set the recording orientation (defocus orientation) and the position and size of the in-focus portion. 1Select [Miniature Effect] using Step 3 on P59 and then touch [OK]. 2Touch [ ] or the screen to display the setting screen. Note • When recording using [Miniature Effect]–Display of the recording screen will be delayed more than usual and the screen will look as if frames are dropping. –No sound is recorded in motion pictures.–Approximately 1/8 of the time period is recorded. (If you record for 8 minutes, the resulting motion picture recording will be approximately 1 minute long.) The displayed available recording time is approximately 8 times. When switching to Recording Mode, please check the available recording time. –When taking pictures of a large size, the screen may turn black after taking the picture because of signal processing. This is not a malfunction. Set the type of blurring for [Miniature Effect] 3Touch [ ] to set the recording orientation (defocus orientation). Recording - 62 - Recording Mode: Taking Pictures that Match the Scene Being Recorded (Scene Mode) When you select a Scene Mode to match the subject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired picture. Touch the Recording Mode icon in Recording Mode. On the Recording Mode list screen, touch [Scene Mode]. Touch the scene mode to set. To u c h [ O K ] . Note •Scene Modes can be changed by touching [Scene Mode] from the menu screen.•The following cannot be set in Scene Mode as the camera adjusts automatically.–[Sensitivity]/[Macro Mode]/[i.Exposure]/[Min. Shtr Speed]/[i.Resolution]/[Color Mode] When taking pictures of people outdoors during t he day, this mode allows you to improve the appearance of the persons concerned and make their skin tones look healthier. ∫ Technique for Portrait Mode To make this mode more effective: 1 Press and hold down the zoom lever as far as possible to Tele. 2 Move close to the subject to make this mode more effective. This allows you to take pictures of a wide landscape. [Portrait] [Scenery]

- 63 - Recording Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally or vertically, and are combined to make a single panorama picture. 1Select the recording direction, and touch [OK]. 2Check the recording direction, and touch [OK]. •A horizontal/vertical guide is displayed. 3Press the shutter button halfway to focus. 4Press the shutter button fully and record a picture while moving the camera in a small circle in the direction selected in Step 1. 5 Press the shutter button once again to stop the recording. •Recording can also be cancelled by ke eping the camera still while recording. [Panorama Shot] Recording from left to right Move the camera in a single panning motion for about 8 seconds. • Move the camera at a constant speed. Pictures may not be able to be recorded properly if the camera is moved too fast or too slow. A 1 second B 2 seconds C 3 seconds D Move the camera in the recording direction without shaking it. If the camera shakes too much, pictures may not be able to be recorded, or the recorded panorama picture may become narrower (smaller). E Move the camera just past the range that you want to record. (The edge of the last frame may not be recorded in some cases.)

Recording - 64 - Note •The zoom position is fixed to Wide.•The focus, white balance, and exposure are fixed at the optimum values for the first picture. As a result, if the focus or brightness changes substantially during recording, the entire panorama picture may not be recorded at the suitable focus or brightness. •When multiple pictures are combined to create a single panorama picture, the subject may appear distorted or the connection points may be noticeable in some cases. •The number of recording pixels in the horizontal and vertical directions of the panorama picture varies depending on the recording direction and the number of combined pictures. The maximum number of pixels is shown below. •A panorama picture may not be able to be created, or the pictures may not be combined properly when recording the following subjects or under the recording conditions below. –Subjects with a single, uniform colour or r epetitive pattern (such as the sky or a beach)–Moving subjects (person, pet, car, waves, flowers swaying in the breeze, etc.)–Subjects where the colour or patterns change in a short time (such as an image appearing on a display) –Dark places–Locations with flickering light sources such as fluorescent lights or candles ∫About playback Playback zoom can be performed even for pict ures that were recorded using [Panorama Shot]. If you touch [ ] in the centre of the screen, the screen will automatically scroll in the same direction during recording. • When the scroll bar is touched, the playback position jumps to the touched position.•The operations below can be performed when the control panel is touched. ¢ When the playback is paused, you can also scroll forwards and backwards by dragging the screen. - 65 - Recording Setting for when you want to take pictures of sports scenes or other fast-moving events.Note • Shutter speed may slow down for up to 1 second.•This mode is suitable for taking pictures of subjects at distances of 5 m (16 feet) or more. This allows you to take pictures of a person and the background with near real-life brightness. ∫ Technique for Night Portrait Mode • Use the flash. (You can set to [ ].)•Ask the subject not to move while taking a picture. Note •We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer for taking pictures.•Shutter speed may slow down for up to 8 seconds.•The shutter may remain closed (max. about 8 sec.) after taking the picture because of signal processing. This is not a malfunction. •Noise may become visible when you take pictures in dark places. This allows you to take vivid pictures of the nightscape. Note • We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer for taking pictures.•Shutter speed may slow down for up to 8 seconds.•The shutter may remain closed (max. about 8 sec.) after taking the picture because of signal processing. This is not a malfunction. •Noise may become visible when you take pictures in dark places. This mode allows you to record multiple pict ures of night scenes at high speed, which are all combined to make a single picture. It will reduce the jitter and noise from the picture even when recording with the camera in your hand. ∫ Picture size Select the picture size of 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2), 2M (16:9) or 2.5M (1:1). Note • Do not move the camera while recording pictures continuously.•Noise may become visible when you take pictures in dark places or take pictures of moving subjects. Recording - 66 - This mode allows you to take pictures of food with a natural hue without being affected by the ambient light in restaurants, etc. This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set different birthdays and names for [Baby1] and [Baby2]. You can select to have these appear at the time of playback, or have them stamped on the recorded image using [Text Stamp] (P108). ∫ Birthday/Name setting 1Touch [Age] or [Name].2Select [Set], and touch [OK].3Enter the birthday or name. • When the birthday or name is set, [Age] or [Name] is automatically set to [On].•If [On] is selected when the birthday or name has not been registered, the setting screen appears automatically. 4Touch [Exit] to finish. ∫ To cancel [Age] and [Name] Select the [Off] setting in step 2. Note • The age and name can be printed out using the “ PHOTOfunSTUDIO ” bundled software on the CD-ROM (supplied). •If [Age] or [Name] is set to [Off] even when the birthday or name has been set, the age or name will not be displayed. •Shutter speed may slow down for up to 1 second. [Food] [Baby1]/[Baby2] Birthday: Touch [ 3]/[4 ] for each item to set year/month/day, and touch [Set]. Name: For details on how to enter characters, refer to “Entering Text” on P74.

- 67 - Recording Select this mode when you want to take pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. You can set your pet’s birthday and name. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [Baby1]/[Baby2] on P66. Select this mode when you want to take pictures of a sunset view. This allows you to take vivid pictures of the red colour of the sun. This mode minimises the jitter of the subjects , and enables you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms. ∫ Picture size Select the picture size of 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2), 2M (16:9) or 2.5M (1:1). This mode is ideal for taking pictures of scenery and other landscapes through clear glass, such as in vehicles or buildings. Note • The camera may focus on the glass if it is dirty or has dust on it.•The pictures taken may not look natural if the glass is coloured. When this happens, change the white balance settings. (P82) Record the image with a frame around it. ∫ Setting the frame Select from 6 types of frames. Note • The picture size is fixed to 5M (4:3).•The colour of the frame displayed on the screen and the colour of the frame around the actual image may differ, but this is not a malfunction. Recording - 68 - Recording Mode: Taking 3D pictures (3D Photo Mode) Pictures are recorded continuously while moving the camera horizontally, and two picutres selected automatically are combined to make a single 3D picture. To view 3D pictures, a television that suppor ts 3D is required (This unit will playback in 2D). Refer to P134 for details about the playback method. Touch the Recording Mode icon in Recording Mode. On the Recording Mode list screen, touch [3D Photo]. •Description of recording method is displayed. To exit, touch [OK]. Start the recording and then slide the camera horizontally straight from left to right. •A guide is displayed while recording.•Move the camera approximately 10 cm (0.33 feet) within approximately 4 seconds using the guide. Note •You cannot record 3D pictures in vertical orientation.•The 3D pictures are saved in MPO format (3D).•Zoom position is fixed to Wide.• The picture size is fixed to 2M (16:9).•The ISO sensitivity is automatica lly adjusted. However, the ISO sensitivity is increased to make the shutter speed become high-speed. •Motion pictures cannot be recorded during 3D Photo Mode.•Recording may not be possible depending on the recording conditions for the following cases. You may not get a 3D effect or the picture may be warped even if it was possible to record. –When the subject is too dark/bright–When the brightness of the subject changes–When the subject is moving–Not enough contrast ∫ Technique for taking 3D pictures –Take a picture of a subject that is not moving–Take a picture in a well-lit place, such as outdoors, etc.–Fix the focus and exposure by pressing the shutter button halfway, then press the shutter button fully and move the camera –When you start recording with the subject slight ly to the right of the centre, the subject will be close to the centre in the final picture

- 69 - Recording Recording Mode: Taking pictures while changing the skin texture (Cosmetic Mode) Pictures can be taken while setting the texture or clearness of the skin. To u c h [ O K ] . Note •Cosmetic Mode can be changed by touching [Cosmetic Mode] from the menu screen.•Effect is not applied if no skin tone is detected.•Cosmetic Mode setting set is memorised even if the camera is turned off.•Because the camera is adjusted automatically during cosmetic mode, the settings cannot be made for [Sensitivity], [Macro Mode], [i.Expos ure], [Min. Shtr Speed], [i.Resolution], or [Color Mode]. •In Cosmetic Mode, areas of the background that have a similar tone to skin colour will have the same effect applied. The effect may not easily be recognised if the picture is not bright enough. Touch the Recording Mode icon in Recording Mode. On the Recording Mode list screen, touch [Cosmetic Mode]. Recording - 70 - Applicable modes: RecordingTaking a Picture with Face Recognition Function Face Recognition is a function which finds a face resembling a registered face and prioritises focus and exposure automatically. Even if the person is located towards the back or on the end of a line in a group photo, the camera can still take a clear picture. • The following functions will also work with the Face Recognition function. In Recording Mode –Display of corresponding name when camera detects a registered face¢ (if name has been set for the registered face)In Playback Mode –Display of name and age (if information has been registered)–Selective playback of pictures chosen from pictures registered with Face Recognition ([Category Selection] in [Filtering Play]). ¢ Names of up to 3 people are displayed. Precedence for the names displayed when taking pictures is determined according to the order of registration. Note •During the Burst Mode, [Face Recog.] picture information can be attached to only the first picture. •[Face Recog.] does not guarantee secure recognition of a person.•Face Recognition may take more time to select and recognise distinctive facial features than regular Face Detection. •Even when Face Recognition information has been registered, pictures taken with [Name] set to [Off] will not be categorised by Face Recogn ition in [Category Selection] ([Filtering Play]). •Even when Face Recognition information is changed (P73) , Face Recognition information for the pictures already taken will not be changed. For instance, if the name is changed, pictures recorded before the change will not be categorised by Face Recognition in [Category Selection] ([Filtering Play]). •To change the name information of the pictures taken, perform the [Replace] in [Face Rec Edit] (P117) . •[Face Recog.] cannot be used in the following cases.–[Miniature Effect] or [Soft Focus] in Creative Control Mode–In [Panorama Shot], [Night Scenery], [Handheld Night Shot] or [Food] in Scene Mode–When recording motion pictures [Face Recog.] is initially set to [Off] on the camera. [Face Recog.] will turn [On] automatically when the face image is registered.
