●The zoom position is fixed to the W end. ●[Stabilizer] does not work. ●The focus, exposure and White Balance are all fixed to optimal values for the first
    picture.
If the focusing or brightness of pictures recorded as part of a Panorama picture after
the first picture are significantly different from those of the first picture, the Panorama
picture as a whole (when all pictures are stitched together) may not have consistent
    focus and brightness.
●[White Balance] cannot be set when applying picture effects. ●Since several pictures are stitched together to create a Panorama picture, some
subjects may be distorted or the joining portions of successively taken pictures that
    are stitched may be noticeable.
●The number of recording pixels per horizontal line and vertical line of a Panorama
picture varies depending on the recording direction and number of stitched pictures.
The maximum number of recording pixels is as follows:
     • T

aking pictures in landscape orientation: Approx. 8000 x 1080

     , beach, etc.)
     • Moving subjects (person, pet, vehicle, waves, or flowers swaying in the wind, etc.) • Subjects whose colors or patterns change quickly (such as an image appearing on a display)
     • Dark locations • Locations with a flickering light source (fluorescent lamp, candle light, etc.) ●When set to [High Key], the effect may be difficult to see, depending on the brightness
    of the subject.
●When set to [Impressive Art], stitches may stand out. ●While recording with [Soft Focus] [Star Filter], you cannot see the ef fects on the LCD
    monitor or viewfinder.
●Settings will be stored even if the camera is turned off.

    [Panning]
When you move the camera to follow a subject moving in one direction such as a runner
or car, the background becomes a blur and the subject stays focused. This effect is called
“panning”. This mode allows you to obtain this effect easier.
Press to select shutter speed setting, and then press
    [MENU/SET]
     ■Settings
[Auto] The shutter speed is set automatically.
    [Shutter-Priority] As in [Shutter-Priority] mode
(→109), you can rotate the rear dial to
set the shutter speed at which to record pictures. Note, however ,
that you can set the shutter speed only within the range in which
a panning technique will have an effect.
     ■Technique for Panning Mode
To obtain good pictures in Panning Mode, move the camera in a horizontal plane as
    you take the pictures.
     • W

e recommend that you do not follow the subject with the camera alone, but stand
facing the subject with shoulders squared, and follow it using your entire body , while
    twisting at the waist.
     • Once the subject is in front of you, press the shutter button. Do not stop moving the camera even after you press the shutter button.
      Move the camera smoothly while
following the subject in the viewfinder
Press the shutter button while you are
    moving the camera
      Move the camera continuously
●We recommend the following: • Using the V iewfinder.
     • Selecting a subject with quick motion. • Using prefocus. • Use this mode with Burst Mode. (Y

ou can then select the best pictures from all the
    pictures taken.)
●The shutter speed in Panning Mode becomes slower to achieve the panning ef fect. As
a result, jitter can easily occur.

    [Handheld Night Shot]
Takes clear still pictures of night scenes with less jitter and less noise by combining a
    burst of still pictures.
     ■Tips

    moving subjects.
    [HDR]
The camera can combine several still pictures taken with different exposures into a single
properly exposed picture with rich gradation. The individual pictures used to create the
HDR picture are not saved. You can minimize the loss of gradations in bright areas and
dark areas when, for example, the contrast between the background and the subject is
    large.
     ■What is HDR?
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and refers to a technique for expressing a wide
    contrast range.
     ■Tips
     • After the shutter button has been pressed, do not move the camera during the burst operation.
●Since a burst of still pictures are combined after they have been recorded, it will be a
few moments before you will be able to record another picture.
●A subject that was in motion when it was recorded may be recorded as an afterimage. ●The camera may take a single still picture instead of several pictures under certain
    recording conditions.
