(1) ADF (Auto Document Feeder)Load a document here. The documents loaded in the document tray are scanned automatically one
sheet at a time.

(2) operation panel Use to change the settings of the machine or to operate it.

(4) document guide Adjust this guide to match the width of document in the ADF.
(5) document tray Open to load a document in the ADF. You can load two or more sheets of document of the same size
and thickness. Load the document with the side you want to scan facing up.
(6) document output slot Documents scanned from the ADF are delivered here.
(7) document cover Open to load an original on the platen glass.
(8) paper guides Align with both sides of the paper stack.
(9) cassette Load paper here. Two or more sheets of the same size and type of paper can be loaded at the same
time, and fed automatically one sheet at a time.

(5) USB port Plug in the USB cable to connect the machine with a computer.
Important
•
Do not touch the metal casing.
•
Do not plug in or unplug the USB cable while the machine is printing or scanning originals with thecomputer.

							Inside View
(1) FINE cartridge (ink cartridges)A replaceable cartridge that integrates print head and ink tank.
(2) FINE cartridge holder Install the FINE cartridges here.
The color FINE cartridge should be installed into the left slot and the black FINE cartridge should be
installed into the right slot.

•
For details on replacing a FINE cartridge, see Replacing a FINE Cartridge .
Important
•
The area around the parts (A) may be splattered with ink. This does not affect the performance of the
machine.
•
Do not touch the parts (A). The machine may not print properly if you touch them.

							Operation Panel
(1) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)Displays messages, menu items, and the operational status.
(2) Back button Returns the LCD to the previous screen.
(3) FAX button Switches the machine to the fax mode.
(4) COPY button Switches the machine to the copy mode.
(5) SCAN button Switches the machine to the scan mode.
(6) Setup button Displays the  Setup menu screen. With this menu, you can perform machine maintenance and change
machine settings.
(7) Black button Starts black & white copying, scanning, faxing, etc.
(8) Color button Starts color copying, scanning, faxing, etc.
(9)

Used to select a menu or setting item. The 
 or  button is also used when entering characters.
LCD and Operation Panel
(10) OK button Finalizes the selection of a menu or setting item. This button is also used to resolve an error or ejects
documents in the ADF (Auto Document Feeder).
(11) Menu button Displays the  Copy menu, Scan menu , or FAX menu  screen.

							(12) Numeric buttonsUsed to enter numerical values such as the number of copies, as well as fax/telephone numbers and
characters.
(13) Tone button Switches to tone dialing temporarily if your machine is connected to a rotary pulse line.
(14) Stop button Cancels operation when print, copy, scan, or fax transmission/reception job is in progress.

•
The machine makes the beep sound when pressing keypad buttons on the operation panel. Thekeypad sound can be enabled or disabled in  Sound control of Dev. user settings .

							Confirming that the Power Is OnThe  POWER  lamp is lit when the machine is turned on.
Even if the LCD is off, if the  POWER lamp is lit, the machine is on.
Note
•
It may take a while for the machine to start printing immediately after you turn on the machine.
•
The LCD will turn off if the machine is not operated for about 5 minutes. To restore the display, press
any button except the  ON button or perform the print operation. The display will be also restored when
receiving faxes. You cannot change the wait time before the LCD turns off.

The  POWER  lamp flashes and then remains lit.

•
It may take a while for the machine to start printing immediately after you turn on the machine.

If the Alarm  lamp lights up or flashes and an error message is displayed on the LCD, see A
Message Is Displayed .
Turning off the machine
1.
Press the  ON button to turn off the machine.
When the  POWER lamp stops flashing, the machine is turned off.
Important
•
When you unplug the power cord  after turning off the machine, be sure to confirm that the
POWER  lamp is off.

•
The machine cannot send or receive faxes when the power is turned off.
•
The power cannot be turned off while the machine is sending or receiving a fax, or when unsent
faxes are stored in the machine's memory.
•
You can set the machine to automatically turn off when no operations are performed for a
certain interval. This feature is set to on by default. However, the machine does not turn off
automatically when the machine is connected via a wireless LAN or to a telephone line.

Caution
•
If you find anything unusual with the power plug/power cord described above, unplug the power cord
and call for service. Using the machine with one of the unusual conditions above may cause a fire or an
electric shock.
