    Stabilizer Bar
    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

    WARNING
    If equipped, always turn off the Automatic Ride Control (ARC) service switch before lifting the vehicle off of
    the ground. Failure to do so could damage the ARC system components. Refer to Section 1 for jacking
    procedures.
    As required, raise and support the vehicle.
    1.  HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
    Stabilizer Bar 937 
    						
    							Remove the nuts, bolts and washers and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the links.
    2. 
    Remove the U-bolts and nuts from the mounting bracket and retainers. Remove the mounting
    brackets, retainers and stabilizer bars.
    3. 
    To install: Position the U-bolts and mounting brackets on the axle with the brackets having the UPmarking in
    the proper position.
    4. 
    Install the stabilizer bar and retainers on the mounting brackets with the retainers having the
    UPmarking in the proper position.
    5. 
    Connect the stabilizer bar to the rear links. Install the nuts, bolts, and washers and tighten.
    6. 
    Tighten the mounting bracket U-bolt nuts to 30-42 ft. lbs.

    STEERING
    Steering Wheel
    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
    1991-94 Models Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    1. 
    Center the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
    2. 
    From the underside of the steering wheel, remove the screws that hold the steering wheel pad to the
    steering wheel spokes.
    3. 
    Lift up the steering wheel pad and disconnect the horn wires from the steering wheel pad by pulling
    the spade terminal from the blade connectors.
    4. 
    Remove the steering wheel pad. Loosen the bolt 2 or 3 turns from the steering shaft.
    5. 
    CAUTION
    Tilt columns have a compression spring under the steering wheel that can unexpectantly pop up the steering
    wheel if the bolt is removed completely.
    Using the proper steering wheel removal tool, loosen the steering wheel on the steering column.
    6. 
    WARNING
    Do not hammer on the steering wheel or the steering shaft or use a knock off type steering wheel puller as
    damage to the steering column will occur.
    To remove the steering wheel, first remove the horn pad retaining screws from the backside of the wheel

    							Before pulling the wheel from the shaft, make a matchmark on the shaft and wheel
    Finish by pulling the steering wheel from the column shaft
    Remove the tool and the steering wheel retaining bolt then lift off the steering wheel.
    7. 
    Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure that the steering wheel is properly aligned
    before installing the lock bolt. Torque the steering wheel lock bolt to 23-33 ft. lbs. (31-45 Nm).
    8. 
    1995-99 Models CAUTION
    Whenever working on a vehicle equipped with an air bag, always refer to Section 6 for disarming procedures.
    Follow the procedures outlined or severe injury, or even death may occur.
    The manufacturer recommends installing the steering wheel using a new wheel-to-shaft retaining bolt.
    Before beginning this procedure, obtain a new bolt.
    Follow the procedures in Section 6 and disarm the air bag.
    1.  HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
    942 REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 
    						
    							After disarming the air bag, pry out the retaining screw covers on the sides of the steering wheel
    Remove the two air bag module retaining screws
    Pry out the two plugs covering the drivers side air bag module screws on the sides of the steering
    wheel.
    2. 
    Remove the two air bag module retaining screws and carefully lift the module away from the steering
    wheel.
    3. 
    Disconnect the air bag electrical harness plug at the sliding contact. Also unplug the horn and, if
    equipped, cruise control wire harness connectors.

    CAUTION
    Always carry the air bag with the horn pad facing away from your body.
    Remove the air bag module and set it on a clean, dry and stable bench with the horn pad facing
    upwards.
    5. 
    CAUTION
    Tilt columns have a compression spring under the steering wheel that can unexpectantly pop up the steering
    wheel if the bolt is removed completely.
    Loosen but do not remove the steering wheel retaining bolt approximately 2 to 3 turns.
    6. 
    Using the proper steering wheel removal tool, loosen the steering wheel on the steering column.
    7. 
    WARNING
    Do not hammer on the steering wheel or the steering shaft or use a knock off type steering wheel puller as
    damage to the steering column will occur.
    Remove the tool and the steering wheel retaining bolt. Discard the steering wheel retaining bolt.

    WARNING
    HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
    944 REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 
    						
    							
    Ensure that the air bag sliding contact wire harness does not get caught on the steering wheel assembly when
    lifting the wheel from the shaft.
    Remove the steering wheel while routing the wire harness through the wheel opening.
    9. 
    To install: Ensure that the vehicles front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
    10. 
    Route the air bag sliding contact wire harnesses through the steering wheel opening (at the 3 oclock
    position).
    11. 
    Align the steering wheel and shaft and press the wheel onto the shaft. Ensure that the sliding contact
    wire harness does not get pinched by the wheel.
    12. 
    Install the new lock bolt and tighten to 25-34 ft. lbs. (34-46 Nm).
    13. 
    Position the air bag module and connect all of the wire harness plugs to it.
    14. 
    Carefully install the module to the wheel and loosely install the side retaining bolts.
    15. 
    Hold the module in position while tightening the retaining bolts to 67-92 inch lbs. (7.6-10.4 Nm).
    16. 
    Install the two cover plugs by snapping them into the holes on the side of the steering wheel.
    17. 
    Arm the air bag system by following the procedures in Section 6.
    18. 
    Combination Switch
    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the steering wheel.
    1. 
    On vehicles equipped with tilt wheel, remove the tilt lever.
    2. 
    On vehicles equipped with tilt wheel, remove the steering column collar by pressing on the collar
    from the top and bottom while removing the collar.
    3. 
    To remove the tilt column control lever, simply rotate it counterclockwise until removed HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
    Combination Switch 945 
    						
    							Remove the instrument panel trim cover retaining screws. Remove the trim cover.
    4. 
    Remove the 2 screws from the bottom of the steering column shroud. Remove the bottom half of the
    shroud by pulling the shroud down and toward the rear of the vehicle.
    5. 
    If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission, move the shift lever as required to aid in
    removal of the shroud. Lift the top half of the shroud from the column.
    6. 
    On 1991 automatic transmission equipped models, disconnect the selector indicator actuation cable by
    removing the screw from the column casting and the plastic plug at the end of the cable.
    7. 
    Remove the 2 self tapping screws that retain the combination switch to the steering column casting.
    Disengage the switch from the casting.
    8. 
    Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors, using caution not to damage the locking tabs. Be sure not to
    damage the PRNDL cable.
    9. 
    Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Torque the combination switch retaining screws
    to 18-27 inch lbs. (2-3 Nm).

    Ignition Switch
    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    Remove the steering wheel.
