8 When a message appears
8.1 When the message TONER EMPTY appears
When the toner is about to run out, the message shown below appears.
When the message appears, replace the toner bottle with a new one.

Reminder 
Use only toner bottles developed specifically for this machine. Use of any 
other toner bottle may cause damage to the machine. For details, contact 
your service representative.
To dispose of used toner bottles, contact your service representative.

1Open the front door.
2Open the toner bottle holder toward 
you, and then pull out the toner 
bottle.
3While holding the sealed end of the 
new toner bottle up, slowly peel off 
the seal toward you.
– Since some toner may spurt out 
while the seal is being peeled off, 
be sure to peel off the seal slowly.

4With the side of the toner bottle 
marked UP facing up, insert the 
toner bottle into the toner bottle 
holder.
– As shown at the right, the tab on 
the toner bottle should securely 
fit into the notch in the toner 
bottle holder.
5Lightly tap the bottom of the toner 
bottle three or four times.
6Close the toner bottle holder, and 
then close the front door.
– When the front door is closed, 
toner replenishing automatically 
begins.

Detail 
If the copy is faint immediately after the toner bottle is replaced, select 
the TONER REPLENISHER function in Utility mode. For details, refer to 
Replenishing toner (TONER REPLENISHER function) on page 7-35.

8.2 When the message PAPER JAM appears
If a paper misfeed occurs while copying/printing, the following message 
appears and copying/printing stops.
A message indicating the location of the paper misfeed appears in the 
bottom line of the screen.
Follow the appropriate procedure described below to clear the misfed paper.

7 CAUTION 
The area around the fusing unit is extremely hot.
%Touching any part other than those indicated may result in 
burns. If you are burnt, immediately cool the skin under cold 
water, and then seek professional medical attention.
1Open the right-side door of the 
machine.

result if the surface of the PC 
drum is touched.
Be careful not to touch the 
surface of the PC drum.
2Pull down the fusing unit release 
levers.
– Only hold the green part of the 
fusing unit release levers when 
pulling them down.
3Slowly pull out the paper.

4While holding the guide plate 
pressed down, slowly pull out the 
paper.
5While turning the knob on the roller, 
slowly pull out the paper.
– Only turn the green knob when 
turning the roller.
– Do not touch the surface of the 
PC drum.
6Close the right-side door of the 
machine.

7Pull out the 1st paper drawer.
8Remove all paper from the drawer, 
and then load the drawer with paper 
again.
9Slide the paper guides to fit the size 
of paper being loaded.
– Be sure that the paper guides are 
slid up against the edges of the 
loaded paper.
