    External Flash (optional)
After attaching the flash (DMW-FL360L, DMW-FL580L: optional), the effective range will
be increased when compared to the camera’s built-in flash.
    Preparation
Close the built-in flash and set the camera [ON/OFF] switch to [OFF].
     ■Using the flash (DMW-FL360L: optional)
Attach the external flash to the hot shoe and then turn on the camera an\
    d the
    external flash
    Set the menu
     → [Rec] → [Flash] → [Flash Mode]
Press to select the item and press [MENU/SET] • While the external flash is connected, the following icons are displayed\
. : External flash Forced ON :External flash Red-Eye Removal Forced ON* : External flash Slow Sync. : External flash Red-Eye Removal Slow Sync.* :
External flash Forced OFF • Signal-flashing with wireless flashes is also disabled.* When the flash mode is set to [AUT
O] or [MANUAL] on the external flash, you cannot select
    the item.
When using other commercially available external flashes that don’t
offer direct communication with the camera (DMC-FZ300)
     • It is necessary to set the exposure on the external flash when it is use\
    d. When you use an external flash in Auto Mode, use an external flash that allows you to set the aperture
value and ISO sensitivity to match the same settings on the camera.
     • Set the camera to

Aperture-Priority AE Mode or Manual Exposure Mode and then set
the same aperture value and ISO sensitivity on the external flash. (The\
     proper exposure
cannot be achieved because the aperture value changes in Shutter-Priorit\
    y AE Mode.
The light of the external flash cannot be properly adjusted since the ap\
    erture value
cannot be fixed in Program AE Mode.)

    Optional accessories
●You can set the aperture value, shutter speed and ISO sensitivity on the \
    camera even when the
    external flash is attached.
●Some commercially available external flashes have synchro terminals with\
     high-voltage or
reversed polarity. If such flashes are used, they could cause a malfunction or hinder nor\
    mal
    operation of the camera.
●If you use commercially available external flashes (with communication \
    functions) other than the
ones compatible with this unit, they may not operate normally or they ma\
    y be damaged. Do not
    use them.
●Even if the external flash is turned off, the camera may enter the external flash mode when the
external flash is attached. When you are not using the external flash, d\
    etach it.
●Do not open the built-in flash when an external flash is attached. ●The camera will become unstable when attaching the external flash, it is\
     recommended to use a
    tripod when taking picture.
●Detach the external flash when you carry the camera. ●Be sure to hold both the camera and the external flash when it is attach\
ed to the camera. If you
hold only the external flash, it could become detached from the camera.
●If the White Balance is set to [ ] when the external flash is used, perform fine adjustment of the
White Balance if the recording results are not satisfactory. (→120)
●If you take pictures close to the subject while taking wide-angle pictur\
es, the light of the flash is
obstructed by the lens and the bottom of the screen may be dark.
●Refer to (→213) about the settings for the wireless flash. ●Refer to the operating instructions of the external flash for further de\
    tails.
Using the AC adaptor (optional) and DC coupler (optional)
    instead of the battery
By using the AC adaptor (DMW-AC10: optional) and DC coupler (DMW-DCC8: optional),
you can record and play back without worrying about the remaining batter\
    y charge.
The optional DC coupler can only be used with the designated Panasonic AC adaptor.
●Always use a genuine Panasonic AC adaptor (optional). ●Also read the AC adaptor and DC coupler operating instructions.

    Shutter Remote Control (optional)
If you use the shutter remote control (DMW-RSL1: optional), you
can avoid jitter (camera shake) when using a tripod and you can
keep the shutter pressed fully when taking pictures with [B] (Bulb)
or Burst Mode. The shutter remote control works similar to the
    shutter button on the camera.
●Record with Creative Video Mode (→108) when using for motion picture recording. Motion picture
recording can be started/stopped with the shutter remote control.
●Refer to the operating instructions of the shutter remote control for fu\
rther details. ●You cannot use the shutter remote control to cancel the sleep mode.
    External Microphone (optional)
Using a stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2: optional) or
stereo microphone (VW-VMS10: optional), you can record
sounds with quality superior to those recorded with the built-in
    microphone.
Using the stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2: optional), you
can switch between the gun (ultra-directional) recording and the
    wide range stereo recording.
    Preparation
Close the built-in flash and set the camera [ON/OFF] switch to [OFF].
■Setting the range within which the stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2:
    optional) will record sounds
Attach the dedicated stereo shotgun microphone to the hot shoe of this u\
    nit, and
    then turn this unit on
    Set the menu
     → [Motion Picture ] → [Special Mic.]

■Reducing the wind noise when using an external microphone
The camera will effectively reduce the wind noise when recording sound with an
    external microphone.
→ [Motion Picture] → [Wind Cut]
Settings: [HIGH] / [STANDARD] / [LOW] / [OFF]
     • This item is available only when using an external microphone. • Setting [Wind Cut] may alter the usual sound quality .
●While the external microphone is connected, [ ] is displayed on the screen. ●When the external microphone is connected, [Mic Level Disp.] (→226) is automatically set to [ON],
and the mic level is displayed on the screen.
●Be sure to hold both the camera and the external microphone when it is a\
    ttached to the camera. If
you hold only the external microphone, it could become detached from the\
     camera.
●If the noises are recorded when you use an AC adaptor (optional), use a battery. ●When a stereo microphone (VW-VMS10: optional) is used, [Special Mic.] is fixed to [STEREO]. ●If the sound of the camera in operation such as the sound of zoom operat\
    ion are recorded, we
    recommend using a shoe adaptor.
●Refer to the operating instructions of the external microphone for furth\
    er details.
