41 Basics Buttons/Dials/Levers Used for Recording Side dial / Rear dial Rotate the side dial to adjust focus, and rotate the rear dial to set th\ e aperture value and shutter speed. You can also select items and set numeric values. • This Owner ’s Manual describes operations of the dials as follows: Rotating the side dial: Rotating the rear dial: Side dial You can adjust focus in the following cases: • In Manual Focus • In Auto Focus (Only when [AF+MF] in [Custom] menu is set to [ON] (→144)) Rotating the side dial to the side : Focusing on a nearby subject Rotating the side dial to the side : Focusing on a distant subject Rear dial You can set the aperture value, shutter speed, and other settings when in\ following recording modes. 42 Basics Buttons/Dials/Levers Used for Recording Temporarily changing the items assigned to the side/rear dials ([Dial Operation Switch]) You can temporarily change the items assigned to the side/ rear dials using the function button to which [Dial Operation Switch] is assigned. [Dial Operation Switch] is assigned to [Fn2] at the time of purchase. (→61) 1Press [Fn2] button • A guide will be displayed showing the items assigned to the side/rear dials. • If no operations are performed, the guide will disappear in a few seconds. 2Rotate the side/rear dial while the guide is displayed • The settings assigned to each dial will change. 3Press [MENU/SET] to set • You can also complete this step by performing either of the operations below: – Press the shutter button halfway – Press [Fn2] button ●Items that are temporarily assigned to the side/rear dials can be used o\ nly while the guide (step 1) or setting screen (step 2) is displayed. Enabling/disabling the operation guide display → [Custom] → [Dial Guide ] → [ON] / [OFF] • When you set [Dial Guide] to [ON], operation guide appears on the recording screen. • The operation guide (above) is displayed at all times during the operation of temporary assignment of the side dial and rear dial. Scenes with complex light sources and contrast Recommended settings • Side dial: White Balance • Rear dial: ISO sensitivity Set the color tone by changing the [White Balance] setting with the side dial, and then set the ISO sensitivity by changing the ISO sensitivity setting with the rear dial. (Default settings) When recording burst pictures Recommended settings • Side dial: Drive Mode • Rear dial: 4K Photo Switch to the Burst or 4K Photo function by changing the drive mode setting with the side dial, and then set the method of taking 4K photos by changing the [4K Photo function] setting with the rear dial. Setting the operation methods of the side dial and rear dial → [Custom] → [Dial Set.] [Rotation (F/SS)] Changes the rotation direction of the dials for adjusting the aperture value and shutter speed. [ ] / [ ] [Exposure Comp.] Assigns the Exposure Compensation to the side dial or rear dial so that \ you can directly adjust it. [ ] (Side dial) / [ ] (Rear dial) / [OFF] [Dial Operation Switch Setup] Sets the items to be assigned temporarily to the side/rear dials when yo\ u press the function button to which [Dial Operation Switch] is assigned. 44 Basics Buttons/Dials/Levers Used for Recording Side button If you press the side button in recording, you can use it in the followi\ ng two ways: • Calling the function for supporting the focus operation • Switching the operation of the side dial ■Calling the function for supporting the focus operation In Auto Focus: If you press the side button, the selection screen for the case when focus is on a nearby subject (macro recording) is displayed* . (→ 145) * In the Intelligent Auto Mode ([ ] or [ ]), the AF Tracking function is applicable. (→132) In Manual Focus: If you press the side button, the Auto Focus starts working temporarily (One-shot AF). (→149) ■Switching the operation of the side dial Set the menu → [Custom] → [Side Button Setting ] → [F/SS] Press the side button • You can rotate the side dial to set the aperture value and shutter speed.\ You can switch the setting operation of the side dial each time you press\ the side button. Aperture value or shutter speed setting Focus adjustment (→144, 147) ●Select [AF /FOCUS] in step to return to the default setting. ●In the Manual Exposure Mode, you can set the aperture value with the sid\ e dial, and the shutter speed with the rear dial. Displays distribution of brightness in picture – e.g. if the graph peaks at the right, this means there are several bright areas in the picture. A peak in the center represents correct brightness (correct exposure). This can be used as a reference for exposure correction, etc. (Example) Dark ← OK → Bright ●When the histogram is not the same as that of the recorded picture under\ the following conditions, histogram will be displayed in orange: • When manual exposure assist indicates settings other than 0 EV in Manual\ Exposure Mode or during Exposure Compensation. • When the flash fires. • When the correct exposure is not achieved or when the brightness of the \ screen cannot be displayed accurately in a dark location. ●The histogram is different from those displayed using the image editing software of a comput\ er. 48 Basics Buttons/Dials/Levers Used for Recording Enabling/disabling the guideline display → [Custom] → [Guide Line] → [ ] / [ ] / [ ] / [OFF] • The guideline is not displayed during panorama picture recording.When you select [ ], you can move the position of the guideline by pressing . •You can also set the position directly by touching [ ] on the guideline of the recording screen. Turning on/off the recording information screen of the monitor → [Custom] → [Monitor Info. Disp. ] → [ON] / [OFF] Using the level gauge If you want to make sure that the camera is not slanted or tilted, for e\ xample, when you take a picture of a landscape, use the level gauge indication as a refer\ ence. 1Press [DISP.] button to display the level gauge The yellow line indicates the current angle. Correct the angle of the ca\ mera so that it matches the white line. Tilting up or down • In this case, it is facing upward.Tilting left or right • In this case, the right side has dropped. • When the camera is tilted very little or not at all, the level gauge wil\ l turn green. ●Even when angle is more or less corrected, there may be an error of abou\ t ±1 degree. ●When [Level Gauge] is assigned to a function button, you can turn the level gauge on and \ off every time you press the function button. ●The level gauge may not be displayed correctly or the direction detect f\ unction (→36) may not operate correctly if the pictures are taken with the camera pointing sha\ rply up or down. Enabling/disabling the overexposed area display → [Custom] → [Highlight ] → [ON] / [OFF] You can set overexposed areas (areas that are too bright and where there\ are no shades of gray) to flash on the screen when the [Auto Review] function is activated or during playback. This does not affect recorded pictures. • T o reduce overexposed areas, record a picture by setting negative exposure compensation (→47) using the histogram display (→154) and so on as a reference. • This feature is disabled during Multi Playback, Calendar Playback or Playback Zoom.
