Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings Applicable modes: By setting [Touch AF] (P60) in [Touch Settings] of the [Custom] menu to [AF+AE], you can optimize the focus and brightness for the position you have tou ched. 1Select the menu. (P63) 2Press 3/4 to select [AF+AE], and press [MENU/SET]. 3Touch the subject you want to optimize the brightness for. •AF area setting screen is displayed. (P158)•The brightness optimization position is displayed on the center of the AF area. The position follows the movement of the AF area. •[Metering Mode] is set to [ ] , which is used exclusively for the Touch AE. •Touching [Reset] returns the brightness optimization position and the AF area to the center. 4Touch [Set]. •The AF area with the same function as [Ø] is displayed on the touched position. •Touching [ ] returns [Metering Mode] to the original setting and cancels the brightness optimization position. The AF area setting is also c anceled. •Touching [ ] returns [Metering Mode] to the original setting and cancels the brightness optimization position. Not available in these cases: • [AF+AE], which optimizes the focus and brightness, does not wor k in the following cases.–In Manual Focus –When using the Digital Zoom–When the AF area has been set by using the cursor button Using the [Custom] menu, you can set the focus method in detail. Focusing/not focusing when the shutter button is pressed halfwa y Releasing/not releasing the shutter by pressing the shutter button halfway Focusing/Not focusing in advance As long as the camera is held steady, the camera will automatic ally adjust the focus and focus adjustment will then be quicker when the shutter is press ed. Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings Turning on/not turning on the AF Assist Lamp AF assist lamp will illuminate the subject when the shutter but ton is pressed halfway, making it easier for the camera to focus when recording in low light conditions. (Larger AF area is displayed depending on the recording conditi ons.) • The effective range of the AF Assist Lamp is different dependin g on the lens used.–When the interchangeable lens (H-FS1442A) is attached and at Wi de: Approx. 1.0 m (3.3 feet) to 3.0 m (9.8 feet) –When the interchangeable lens (H-FS45150) is attached and at Wide: Approx. 1.0 m (3.3 feet) to 3.0 m (9.8 feet) –When the interchangeable lens (H-FS14140) is attached: Approx. 1.0 m (3.3 feet) to 3.0 m (9.8 feet) •The AF Assist Lamp is valid only for the subject in the center of the screen. Use it by positioning the subject in the center of the screen. •Remove the lens hood.•When you do not want to use the AF Assist Lamp (e.g. when takin g pictures of animals in dark places), set the [AF Assist Lamp] to [OFF]. In this case, it wi ll become more difficult to focus on the subject. •The AF Assist Lamp gets slightly blocked when the interchangeable lens (H-FS1442A/ H-FS45150/H-FS14140) is used, but it does not affect the perfor mance. •The AF Assist Lamp may be greatly blocked, and it may become ha rder to focus when a lens with large diameter is used. •The setting is fixed to [OFF] in the following cases. –[Distinct Scenery]/[Bright Blue Sky]/[Romantic Sunset Glow]/[Vi vid Sunset Glow]/[Glistening Water]/[Clear Nightscape]/[Cool Night Sky]/[Warm Glowing Nightscape]/[Artistic Nightscape]/ [Handheld Night Shot] (Scene Guide Mode) –When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON] > [Custom] > [AF Assist Lamp] > [ON]/[OFF]MENU

[RELEASE]: This gives priority to the best time to take a picture so you c an take a picture when the shutter button is pressed fully. • When set to [RELEASE], please be aware that focus may not be ac hieved even with focus mode set to [AFS], [AFF] or [AFC]. Adjusting/not adjusting the focus manually after achieving Auto Focus When AF Lock is ON (press the shutter button halfway with the f ocus mode set to [AFS] or set AF Lock using [AF/AE LOCK]), you can make fine adjustments to the focus manually. > [Custom] > [Focus/Release Priority] > [Custom] > [AF+MF] > [ON]/[OFF] MENU MENU

(MF Assist) The operations used to focus manually differ depending on the l ens. When using an interchangeable lens with no focus ring Press 1: Focuses on close-up subjects Press 2: Focuses on distant subjects ASlide bar•These operations are possible only on the focus adjustment screen. •Pressing and holding 2/1 will increase the focus speed. •Focus can also be adjusted by dragging the slide bar. (MF Guide) You can perform the following operations: ¢When using an interchangeable lens with no focus ring, you can perform these operations after pressing 4 to display the screen that lets you set the area to be enlarged .•When the picture is displayed in windowed mode, you can enlarge /reduce the picture by approximately 3 to 6k; when the picture is displayed in full screen, you can enlarge / reduce the picture by approximately 3 to 10k.•If you use the HDMI output during recording, the screen cannot be enlarged in windowed mode. The recording screen will be displayed. •You can also close the assist screen by pressing [MENU/SET].•If you have enlarged the picture by rotating the focus ring or moving the focus lever, the assist screen will close approximately 10 seconds after the operation. •MF Assist or MF guide may not display depending on the lens use d, but you can display MF Assist by direct operation of the camera, using the touch scree n or a button. •If you press a cursor button on the recording screen when [Dire ct Focus Area] in the [Custom] menu is set to [ON], the screen that lets you set the area to b e enlarged will be displayed. •MF Assist is not displayed in the following cases:–When recording motion pictures–When recording with [ ] ([4K Pre-Burst]) of the 4K Photo functio n –When using the Digital Zoom Technique for Manual Focus 1 Rotate the focus ring to focus on the subject. 2 Rotate it a little more. 3 Finely focus on the subject by rotating the focus ring slowly in reverse. • If you zoom in/out after focusing on a subject, the focus may lose its accuracy. In that case, re-adjust the focus. •After canceling Sleep Mode, focus on the subject again. •If you are taking close-up pictures:–We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer (P201).–The effective focus range (depth of field) is significantly nar rowed. Therefore, if the distance between the camera and the subject is changed after focusing on the subject, it may become difficult to focus on it again. –The resolution of the periphery of the picture may decrease sli ghtly. This is not a malfunction.

Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings 168 ∫About the focus distance reference mark Achieving focus quickly using Auto Focus If [AF/AE LOCK] is pressed in Manual Focus, Auto Focus will wor k. • Auto Focus works at the center of the frame.•If Auto Focus is used while the MF Assist screen is displayed, the center of the MF Assist screen will be focused. •Auto Focus also works with the following operations.–Pressing the function button to which [AF-ON] is assigned–Touching [ ] –Dragging the monitor and releasing your finger at the position you want to focus on The focus distance reference mark is a mark used to measure the focus distance. Use this when taking pictures wit h Manual Focus or taking close-up pictures. Displaying/not displaying the MF Guide A Indicator for ¶ (infinity) When [MF Guide] on the [Custom] menu is set to [ON] and you focus manually, the MF guide is displayed on the screen. Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings 170 Highlighting/not highlighting in-focus portions • When [Peaking] is set, [ ] ([Detect Level]: [HIGH]) or [ ] ([Dete ct Level]: [LOW]) will be displayed. •Each time [ ] in [ ] is touched, the setting is switched in order of [ON] ([Detect Level]: [LOW]) > [ON] ([Detect Level]: [HIGH]) > [OFF].•Each time the set function button is pressed when [Peaking] is set to [Fn Button Set] (P70) in the [Custom] menu, the peaking setting switches in order of [ON ] ( [Detect Level]: [LOW]) > [ON] ([Detect Level]: [HIGH]) > [OFF].•This function works in Manual Focus or when focus is being adjusted manually with [AF+MF]. •Since portions with clear outlines on the screen are highlighte d as in-focus portions, portions to be highlighted vary depending on the recording conditions. •The color used for highlighting does not affect recorded images . •[Peaking] does not work with [Rough Monochrome] in Creative Con trol Mode. > [Custom] >[Peaking] [ON]In-focus portions are highlighted with color. [OFF]In-focus portions are not highlighted. [SET] [Detect Level] The detection level for in-focus portions is set. When [HIGH] is set, portions to be highlighted are reduced, allowing you to achieve a more precise focus. [HIGH]/[LOW] • The detection level setting does not affect the focus range. [Display Color] Sets the highlighting color used for [Peaking]. •When [Detect Level] is set to [HIGH]: [ ] (Light blue)/[ ] (Yellow)/[ ] (Green) •When [Detect Level] is set to [LOW]: [ ] (Blue)/[ ] (Orange)/[ ] (White) •Changing the [Detect Level] setting also changes the [Display Color] setting as follows. – [ ] (Light blue) [ ] (Blue) – [ ] (Yellow) [ ] (Orange) – [ ] (Green) [ ] (White) MENU
