Others Troubleshooting First, try out the following procedures (P387 to P401) . • The battery is exhausted. > Charge the battery. •If you leave the camera on, the battery will be exhausted. > Turn the camera off frequently by using the [Economy] etc. (P77) •[Economy] is enabled. (P77) •Is the linked operation of VIERA Link enabled? > If you are not using VIERA Link, set [VIERA Link] to [OFF]. (P79) •Insert the battery securely all the way in. (P31) •Is the drive mode set to 4K Photo and [4K PHOTO] set to [ ] ([4K Pre-Burst])? When [ ] ([4K Pre-Burst]) is selected, the battery drains faster. > Select [ ] ([4K Pre-Burst]) only when recording. •Is a Wi-Fi connection being used for a long period of time? The battery can become flat quickly when connected to Wi-Fi. > Turn the camera off frequently by using the [Economy] etc. (P77) •When the drive mode is set to 4K Photo and [4K PHOTO] in the [R ec] menu is set to [ ] ([4K Pre-Burst]), the camera temperature rises. In some cases, the c amera may display [ ], switch to [ ] ([4K Burst]) and stop the recording to protect its elf. Wait until the camera cools down. •Is the subject focused? > Is [Focus/Release Priority] in the [Custom] menu set to [FOCUS] ? (P164) You cannot take a picture until the subject is brought into foc us. If the problem is not resolved, it may be improved by selecting [Reset] (P80) on the [Setup] menu. Battery and power source The camera cannot be operated even when it is turned on. The camera turns off immediately after it is turned on. This unit is turned off automatically. Card/battery door does not close. The battery becomes flat too quickly. Recording Taking pictures is not possible. The shutter will not operate immediately when the shutter butto n is pressed.

Others 388 •Picture might look whitish when lens or image sensor gets dirty with fingerprints or similar. > If the lens is dirty turn the camera off and then gently wipe t he lens surface with a soft, dry cloth. > Refer to P403 when the image sensor gets dirty. •Check that the exposure is correctly compensated. (P173) •Is the AE Lock (P171) applied incorrectly? •Cancel the following settings:–Burst/Auto Bracket/[ ] of the self-timer (P181) –White Balance Bracket (P139) •The subject is beyond the focus range of the camera. (P44) •There is camera shake (jitter) or the subject is moving slightl y. (P223)•Is [Focus/Release Priority] in the [Custom] menu set to [RELEAS E]? (P164)•Is [Shutter AF] in the [Custom] menu set to [OFF]? (P162) •Is the AF Lock (P171) applied incorrectly? •The shutter speed will become slower and the Optical Image Stab ilizer function may not work properly when taking pictures especially in dark places. > We recommend holding the camera firmly with both hands when tak ing pictures. (P43) > We recommend using a tripod and the self-timer (P201) when taking pictures with a slow shutter speed. •Are you using a lens which supp orts the Stabilizer function? (P20) •When a moving subject is recorded with the electronic shutter, the subject may appear distorted on the picture. (P179) •Is there any memory remaining on the card? The recorded picture is whitish. The recorded picture is too bright or dark. Multiple pictures are taken at one time. The subject is not focused properly. The recorded picture is blurred. The Optical Image Stabilizer is not effective. Taking pictures using White Balance Bracket is not possible.

389 13. Others •Try the following:> Take pictures in bright places. > Decrease the ISO sensitivity. (P175) > Increase the setting for [Noise Reduction] in [Photo Style] or lower the setting for each of the items other than [Noise Reduction]. (P131) > Set the [Long Shtr NR] to [ON]. (P145) •Is the [Picture Size] (P140) or the [Quality] (P141) set low? •Is the [Digital Zoom] set? (P227) •When recording under fluorescent or LED lighting fixture, etc., increasing the shutter speed may introduce slight changes to brightness and color. These are a result of the characteristics of the light source and do not indicate a malfunction. •When recording subjects in extremely bright locations or record ing under fluorescent lighting, LED lighting fixture, mercury lamp, sodium lighting, etc., the colors and screen brightness may change or horizontal striping may appear on the screen. •There may be defective pixels in the image sensor. > Perform [Pixel Refresh] (P81). •Set the AF area to the distinctive color of the subject if ther e is a part that is different from the surrounding color. (P154) The recorded picture looks rough. Noise appears on the picture. Striping or flicker may appear under lighting such as fluoresce nt lighting and LED lighting fixture. • This is characteristic of MOS sensors which serve as the camera ’s pickup sensors. This is not a malfunction. •Are you taking pictures with the electronic shutter? (P179) > When using the electronic shutter, lowering the shutter speed may reduce the effect of the horizontal stripes. The brightness or the hue of the recorded picture is different from the actual scene. Bright spot not in subject is recorded. Subject cannot be locked. (AF tracking not possible)

(P18) •If the camera is moved too slowly, the camera has assumed that camera motion was stopped and will end the still picture recording. •If there is a great deal of shaking towards the recording direc tion while moving the camera, recording will end. •When the ambient temperature is high or recording with [ ] ([4K Burst]) or [ ] ([4K Burst(S/S)]) of the 4K Photo function is performed continuously, the camera may display [ ] and stop the recording to protect itself. Wait until the cam era cools down. •You may not be able to record for a short while after turning this unit on when using a large capacity card. •When the ambient temperature is high or motion picture is recorded continuously, the camera may display [ ] and stop the recording to protect itself. Wait u ntil the camera cools down. •Depending on the [Rec Format] and [Rec Quality] of a motion picture, the speed class rating required for the card differs. Use a card that meets the rating . For details, refer to “About motion picture/4K photo recording and speed class ratings ” on P22 .•When a card with a slow data writing speed is used, motion pict ure recording may stop midway. > If a card on which recording and deleting have been repeated ma ny times or a card that has been formatted on a PC or other equipment is being used, we recommend that you make a backup of the data and format (P33) the card on the unit. •When recording a motion picture, the screen may go dark after a certain period to reduce battery consumption, but this will not affect the recorded moti on picture. •Depending on the environment at the time of motion picture reco rding, the screen may be blacked out momentarily or the unit may record noise due to sta tic electricity or powerful electromagnetic waves (radio towe rs, high voltage power lines, etc.). Operation sound is small. Recording by Panorama Shot Mode is ended before finishing. 4K photo recording stops before finishing. Motion pictures Recording motion pictures is not possible. Motion picture recording stops in the middle. When recording a motion picture, the screen may go dark. The screen may be blacked out momentarily, or the unit may reco rd noise.
