    •You can set the aperture value, the shutter speed and the ISO sensitivity on the camera even 
    when attaching the external flash.
    •Some commercial external flashes have synchro terminals with hi gh-voltage or reversed 
    polarity. Using such extra flashes may cause a malfunction or t he camera may not operate 
    normally.
    •If you use commercially available external flashes with communi cation functions other than the 
    dedicated one, they may not operate normally or they may be dam aged. Do not use them.
    •Even if the external flash is turned off, the camera may enter the external flash mode when the 
    external flash is attached. When you are not using the external  flash, detach it.
    •Do not open the built-in flash when an external flash is attached.
    •The camera will become unstable when attaching the external fla sh, it is recommended to use 
    a tripod when taking picture.
    •Detach the external flash when carrying the camera.
    •When attaching the external flash, do not hold only the externa l flash because it may detach 
    from the camera.
    •If you use the external flash when the White Balance is set to  [ ], finely adjust the White 
    Balance depending on the picture quality. (P138)
    •If you record at close range with a wide angle, light from the  flash may be blocked by the lens, 
    darkening the lower part of the screen.
    •Read the operating instructions of the external flash for detai ls.

    Using a stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2: optional) or stereo 
    microphone (VW-VMS10: optional), you can record sounds with 
    quality superior to those recorded with the built-in microphone .
    Using the stereo shotgun microphone (DMW-MS2:optional), you 
    can switch between the gun (ultra-directional) recording and th e 
    wide range stereo recording.
    Preparations:
    •
    Close the built-in flash, and then turn this unit off.•Remove the hot shoe cover that is attached to the camera.  (P360)
    ∫Setting the range within which the stereo shotgun microphone (D MW-MS2: 
    optional) will record sounds
    1Attach the dedicated stereo shotgun microphone to this unit, and then turn this 
    unit on.
    2Select [Special Mic.] on the [Motion Picture] menu.  (P63)
    •The menu items are displayed only when the stereo shotgun micro phone is connected.
    3Press 3/4  to select the Item and then press [MENU/SET].
    4(When [MANUAL] is selected)
    Press  2/1  to select a range, and press [MENU/SET].
    ∫ Reducing the wind noise when using an external microphone
    The camera will effectively reduce the wind noise when recordin g sound with an external 
    microphone.
    Settings: [HIGH]/[STANDARD]/[LOW]/[OFF]
    •
    This item is available only when using an external microphone.
    •Setting [Wind Cut] may alter the usual sound quality.
    External Microphone (optional)
    [STEREO]Allows stereo recording of sound over a wide area.
    [LENS AUTO]Allows recording within the range that is set automatically according 
    to the angle of view of the lens.
    [SHOTGUN]Allows recording from one direction by shutting out background  and 
    surrounding noise.
    [S. SHOTGUN]Allows recording within the range even narrower than that of 
    [SHOTGUN].
    [MANUAL]Allows recording within the range you set manually.

    •While the external microphone is connected, [ ] is displayed on the screen.
    •When the external microphone is connected, [Mic Level Disp.] (P255) is automatically set to 
    [ON], and the mic level is displayed on the screen.
    •When an external microphone is attached to the camera, do not h old only the external 
    microphone to prevent the camera from falling.
    •When an external microphone is attached to the camera, do not o pen the built-in flash.•If the noises are recorded when you use an AC adaptor (optional), use a battery.
    •When a stereo microphone (VW-VMS10: optional) is used, [Special Mic.] is fixed to [STEREO].•If you press the function button to which [Mic. Directivity Adjust] in [Fn Button Set] (P70) in the 
    [Custom] menu is assigned when [Special Mic.] is set to [MANUAL ], the screen that lets you set 
    the range will be displayed.
    •[LENS AUTO] is available only when a lens based on the Micro Fo ur Thirds System standard/
    Four Thirds System standard is used. If your lens is based on t he Micro Four Thirds System 
    standard/Four Thirds System standard but does not have a commun ication function with the 
    camera, [LENS AUTO] is not available.
    •For details, refer to the operating instructions of the externa l microphone.
    If you use the shutter remote control (DMW-RSL1: optional), you  can  
    avoid jitter (camera shake) when  using a tripod and you can keep the 
    shutter pressed fully when taking pictures with [B] (Bulb) or B urst 
    Mode. The shutter remote control works similar to the shutter b utton 
    on the camera.
    •
    Always use a genuine Panasonic shutter remote control (DMW-RSL1 : optional).
    •Record with Creative Video Mode (P126) when using for motion picture recording. Motion 
    picture recording can be started/stopped with the shutter remot e control.
    •Read the operating instructions of the shutter remote control for details.
    Not available in these cases:
    •
    You cannot use the shutter remote control for the following ope ration.
    –Sleep Mode cancellation

    By connecting the AC adaptor (optional), and then plugging them into an electrical socket, 
    you can connect this unit to a PC or printer and use without wo rrying about the capacity of 
    the battery.
    To use the AC adaptor, a DC coupler (optional) is required.
    •
    Always use a genuine Panasonic AC adaptor (optional).•When using an AC adaptor, use the AC cable supplied with the AC  adaptor.
    •Also read the operating instructions for the AC adaptor and DC coupler.
    The MC protector is a transparent filter which affects neither the colors nor the amount of 
    light, so it can always be used to protect the camera’s lens.
    The ND filter reduces the amount of light to approximately 1/8t h (equal to adjusting the 
    aperture value 3 increments) without affecting the color balance .
    PL filter will suppress the reflected light from a metal or non  spherical surfaces (flat 
    non-metallic surfaces, water vapour or invisible particles in t he air), making it possible to 
    take a picture with enhanced contrast.
    •
    Do not attach multiple filters at the same time.•You can attach the lens cap or the lens hood when the filter is  attached.
    •Refer to the instructions for each filter for details.
