Getting Started/Basic Operations Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) •The clock is not set when the camera is shipped. 1Turn the camera on. •When the camera is turned on, the status indicator 1 lights up green. •If the language select screen is not displayed, proceed to step4. 2Press [MENU/SET]. 3Press 3/4 to select the language, and press [MENU/SET]. 4Press [MENU/SET]. 5Press 2/1 to select the items (year, month, day, hour, minute), and press 3/4 to set. (P63) •The clock can be reset as shown in steps 5 and 6 on P41 .•The clock setting is maintained for 3 months using the built-in clock battery even without the battery. (Leave the charged battery in the unit for 24 hours to charge t he built-in battery.) •If the clock is not set, the correct date cannot be printed when you stamp the date on the pictures with [Text Stamp] or order a photo studio to print the pictures. Diopter adjustment Adjust the diopter to suit your vision so that you can see the characters displayed in the viewfinder clearly. Re-adjusting the clock

Getting Started/Basic Operations Basic Operations Hold the camera gently with both hands, keep your arms still at your side and stand with your feet slightly apart. •Do not cover the flash, AF Assist lamp A, microphone B, or speaker C with your fingers or other objects. •Be careful not to move the camera when you press the shutter bu tton. •Be sure to remove the lens cap when recording.•When taking pictures, make sure your footing is stable and there is no danger of colliding with another person, an object etc. ∫ Detects orientation of camera (Direction Detection Function) This function detects the vertical orientation when you record with the camera vertically orientated. When you play back the recording, the recording is automatically displayed in vertical orientation. (Only available when [Rotate Disp.] (P284) is set to [ON].) • When recording with this unit, Direction Detection can be perfo rmed even if you are using a lens that is not compatible with the Direction Detection Functi on. •When the camera is held vertically and tilted significantly up or down to record, the Direction Detection Function may not work correctly. •Motion pictures taken with the camera held vertically are not displayed vertically.•4K burst files recorded with the 4K Photo function are not displayed vertically. Getting Started/Basic Operations Displaying a picture right after it is taken • When [Duration Time] is set to [HOLD], [Playback Operation Prio rity] is fixed to [ON].•When recording with the 4K Photo function, settings available for [Duration Time] in [Auto Review] change to [ON] and [OFF]. [Playback Operation Priority] is fixed to [ON]. Press the motion picture button to start and stop recording a motion picture. Start recording by pressing the motion picture button. •Release the motion picture button right after you press it. Stop the recording by pressing the motion picture button again. > [Custom] > [Auto Review] [Duration Time] Set the length of time that the picture is displayed after taki ng the still picture. [HOLD]: The pictures are displayed until shutter button is pressed half way. [5SEC]/[4SEC]/[3SEC]/[2SEC]/[1SEC]/[OFF] [Playback Operation Priority] [ON] Switching the display of the playback screen, deleting pictures, etc. are possible during [Auto Review]. Mode dial (Selecting a Recording Mode) Intelligent Auto Mode (P83) The subjects are recorded using settings automatically selected by the camera. Intelligent Auto Plus Mode (P90) Allows you to adjust the brightness and color hue when in Intel ligent Auto Mode. Program AE Mode (P92) Records at the aperture value and shutter speed set by the came ra. Aperture-Priority AE Mode (P95) The shutter speed is automatically determined by the aperture value you set. Shutter-Priority AE Mode (P96) The aperture value is automatically determined by the shutter s peed you set. Manual Exposure Mode (P97) The exposure is adjusted by the aperture value and the shutter speed which are manually adjusted. Creative Video Mode (P126) Records motion pictures with a manually set aperture value and shutter speed. ¢ You cannot take still pictures. Custom Mode (P128) Use this mode to take pictures with previously registered setti ngs. Panorama Shot Mode (P102) This mode allows you to take panorama pictures. Getting Started/Basic Operations 48 Temporarily changing the items assigned to the front/rear dials ([Dial Operation Switch]) You can temporarily change the items assigned to the front/ rear dials using the function button to which [Dial Operation Switch] is assigned. [Dial Operation Switch] is assigned to [Fn11] at the time of purchase. (P70) AFunction button [Fn11] Scenes and recommended settings Below are examples of recommended front/rear dial assignment settings for scenes. • You can set the items to be assigned temporarily to the front/r ear dials in [Dial Operation Switch Setup] in [Dial Set.] in the [Custom] menu. (P49) 1Press [Fn11] . •A guide will be displayed showing the items temporarily assigned to the front/rear dials. •If no operations are performed, the guide will disappear in a few seconds. 2Rotate the front/rear dials while the guide is displayed. • The setting of the item assigned to the dial you have rotated will change. To change the setting of the item assigned to the other dial, rotate it. Pressing [MENU/SET]: Confirmation of setting contents, etc., is performed. • This owner’s manual expresses the up, down, left, and right of the cursor button as 3/4/2 /1. Even when the camera is operated using the touch screen, it is possible to operate with the cursor button and [MENU/SET] button if a guide like the one shown on the right is displayed.
