Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings Fixing the Focus and the Exposure (AF/AE Lock) Applicable modes: This is useful when you want to take a picture of a subject outside the AF area or the contrast is too strong and you cannot achieve appropriate expos ure. 1Align the screen with the subject. 2Press and hold [AF/AE LOCK] to fix the focus or exposure. •If you release [AF/AE LOCK], AF/AE Lock is canceled.•Only the exposure is locked in the default setting. 3While pressing [AF/AE LOCK], move the camera as you compose the picture and then press shutter button fully. Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings 172 Setting the functions of [AF/AE LOCK] Maintaining/not maintaining the lock when [AF/AE LOCK] is released • AF Lock only is effective when taking pictures in Manual Exposu re Mode.•AE Lock only is effective when taking pictures with Manual Focus. •The subject can be focused again by pressing the shutter button halfway even when AE is locked. •Program Shift can be set even w hen AE is locked. > [Custom] > [AF/AE Lock] [AE LOCK] Only the exposure is locked.•When the exposure is set, [AEL], the aperture value, and the sh utter speed are displayed. Focus and Brightness (Exposure) Settings Compensating the Exposure Applicable modes: Use this function when you cannot achieve appropriate exposure due to the difference in brightness between the subject and the background. • You can switch the functions between the rear dial and the fron t dial by pressing [DISP.]. •The Exposure Compensation value can be set within a range of j5 EV to i 5EV. When recording motion pictures, the Exposure Compensation value can be set within a range of j3 EV to i 3EV. When recording 4K photos, the Exposure Compensation value can be set within a range of j3EV to i3EV. •Select [0] to return to the original exposure. 3Rotate the front dial to adjust the flash output. •This operation is possible only when [Firing Mode] (P233) in [Flash] is set to [TTL]. •Flash output can also be adjusted using [Flash Adjust.] in [Fla sh] in the [Rec] Menu. (P237) The [ ]/[Fn1] button can be used in two ways, as [ ] (exposure co mpensation) or [Fn1] (function 1). It is recommended to record by checking the actual brightness o f the recorded image in the Auto Review or playback screen. •The set Exposure Compensation value is stored even if the camer a is turned off. When the setting for either of the two is changed, the setting for the o ther is also changed. > [Rec] > [Metering Mode] [] (Multiple) This is the method in which the camera measures the most suitab le exposure by judging the allocation of brightness on the whole screen automatically. Usually, we recommend using this method. [] (Center weighted) This is the method used to focus on the subject on the center o f the screen and measure the whole screen evenly. Shutter and Drive Settings Setting the Shutter Type ([Electronic Shutter]) Applicable modes: You can use either of the two shutters to take pictures: the me chanical shutter or the electronic shutter. ¢ 1 This setting is available only in Manual Exposure Mode. (P97) ¢ 2 Up to an ISO sensitivity of [ISO3200]. When the setting is hig her than [ISO3200], the shutter speed will be faster than 1 second. ¢ 3 The mechanical shutter sound cannot be muted. ¢ 4 Electronic shutter sound settings can be changed in [E-Shutter Vol] and [E-Shutter Tone] . (P63) •When [ ] is displayed on the screen, pictures will be taken with the electronic shutter. •When [Burst Rate] is set to [SH], pictures will be taken with the electronic shutter.•4K photos will be recorded with the electronic shutter.•When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON], pictures will be taken with the electronic shutter. •When a moving subject is recorded with the electronic shutter, the subject may appear distorted on the picture. •When the electronic shutter is used under fluorescent or LED lighting, etc., horizontal stripes may appear on the picture. In such cases, lowering the shutter speed may reduce the effect of the horizontal stripes.
