    Precautions for Moving the Printer
To avoid injuring yourself or damaging the printer, follow these guidelines:
     WARNING:
Parts of the printer are hot and need time to cool down before moving or packing the
printer. To avoid personal injur y or printer damage, wait 30 minutes for the ink to solidify and the
printhead to cool down. The Power Off to Move procedure requires that you remove the cleaning unit
    and waste tray.

     CAUTIONS:

    • Keep the printer level. Tilting the printer can cause the ink to spill inside.
    • Always allow the printer to cool before it is moved to avoid ink spills that can damage
    the printer.

    • Alw ays turn off the printer using the power switch and wait for the power off sequence to finish.
Then unplug all cables and cords. Never turn off the printer by pulling the power cord or using a
power strip with a power switch.
    • For best results, use the Power Off to Move procedure on the printer control panel. For details, see
Moving the Printer Within the Office on page 183.
    • Always use at least two people to lift the printer.
    • When lifting the printer, grasp the areas as shown.

    1. Close the printer doors.
    2. Turn off the printer using the power switch on the back of the printer.

    3. Within 60 seconds after turning off the printer, on the printer control panel select either Standard

    4. Wait for the printer to complete the cool -down period for the ink to solidify. The printer fans shut
down when the printer is cool enough to move.

     CAUTION:
If you do not select Standard Power Off or Power Off to Move, the ink takes longer to
solidify because the fans do not spin. Wait at least 30 minutes for the printer to cool down
comp letely before moving or packing it.
    5. After the cool -down cycle is complete, unplug the printer.
     CAUTION:
Do not unplug the pr inter until the cooling sequence completes and the printer turns off.

    6. Use the hand holds on each side of the printer to lift it. Move the printer separately from any
optional trays. Always use at least two people to lift the printer.

This section contains pr ocedures to help you locate and resolve problems. Resolve some problems by
    simply restarting the printer.
    Minimizing Ink Usage
To save ink, leave the printer turned on at all times. For more information about minimizing ink usage,
go to the Xerox Support w ebsite for your printer model:
    • ColorQube 8700 Color Multifunction Printer: www.xerox.com/office/CQ8700support
    • ColorQube 8900 Color Multifunction Printer: www.xerox.com/office/CQ8900support
    Restarting the Printer
You can use Quick Restart or the power switch to restart the printer. Quick Restart is faster because it
reinitializes the printer without turning it off.
To restart the printer using Quick Restart:
    1. Close the printer doors.
    2. If menus are visible on the control panel, press the Power Saver button. If the control panel is dark,
press the Power Saver button twice.
    3. Touch Quick Restart > Restart .
    4. If the restart process does not begin within 30 seconds, resta rt the printer using the power switch.

To restart the printer using the power switch:
    1. Close the printer doors.
    2. Turn off the printer using the power switch on the back of the printer.

    3. On the touch screen, touch Standard Power Off .
− Wait 30 seconds after the printer turns off before proceeding to the next step.
− If the printer does not turn off after two minutes, it is not able to complete a standard power
off sequence. Disconnect the power cord, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect it.
    4. Turn on the power switch.

If restarting the printer does not resolve the problem, see the table in this chapter that best describes the
    problem.
    Printer Does Not Turn On

    Probable Causes Solutions
The power switch is not turned on. Turn on the switch.
The power cord is not correctly plugged into
the outlet. Turn off the printer power switch, and plug the power cord securely
    into the outlet.

Something is wrong with the outlet
    connected to the printer. •
Plug another electrical appliance into the outlet and see if it
    operates properly.
    • Try a different outlet.
The printer is connected to an outlet with a
voltage or frequency that does not match the
printer specifications. Use a power source
with the specifications listed in the Electrical
    Specifications on page 233.

Printer Resets or Turns Off Frequently

    Probable Causes Solutions
The printer is connected to an outlet with a
voltage or frequency that does not match the
printer specifications. Use a power source with the specifications listed in the Electrical
    Specifications
     on page 233.
The printer is plugged into an Uninterruptible
Power Supply (UPS) or shared power strip. •
Do not use a UPS. Only use an extension cord, power strip, or
surge protector designed to handle the electrical current
    capacity of the printer.
    • If you plug the p rinter into a 20 amp surge protector, do not
plug any other device into the surge protector.
    • Do not plug the printer into the same outlet with other
high-power devices, such as kitchen appliances.
    A network configuration problem exists.
Unplug the network cable. If the problem is resolved, contact your
network administrator to reconfigure your network installation.
    A system error occurred.
Contact your Xerox representative with the error code and message.
Check the control panel fault history. For details , see Viewing Error
Messages on the Control Panel on page 224.

    Printing Takes Too Long

    Probable Causes Solutions
The printer is set to print on a paper type that
requires slower printing. Certain paper types, like heavyweight paper and transparencies,
take more time to print. Ensure that the print driver and control
panel are set to the proper paper type.

The printer is in Energy Saver mode.
Wait. It takes time for printin g to start when the printer is coming
    out of Energy Saver mode.
The way the printer was installed on the
network could be an issue. •
Determine if a print spooler or a computer sharing the printer is
buffering all print jobs and then spooling them to the pr inter.
    Spooling can slow print speeds.
    • To test the speed of the printer, print some information pages
such as the Office Demo Page. If the page prints at the rated
speed of the printer, you could have a network or printer
installation issue. For additional help, contact the system
    administrator.
The print-quality mode in the driver is set to
    Photo. •
Change the print -quality mode in the print driver to Standard.
    • No action needed. Photo print -quality mode takes longer to
    print.
The job is complex. Wait. No action needed.
