Troubleshooting ColorQube 8700/8900 Color Multifunction Printer 221 User Guide Symptoms Probable Causes Solutions The fax received by the recipient is blank. The document was loaded incorrectly. • If using the document feeder, place the original document face up. • If using the document glass, place the original document face down. Fax was not transmitted. The fax number is wrong. Verify the fax number. The telephone line is connected incorrectly. Verify the telephone line connection. If the telephone line is disconnected, connect it. There is a problem with the fax machine of the recipient. Contact the recipient. The fax feature is not installed or is not enabled. Ensure that the fax feature is installed and enabled. Server fax is enabled. Ensure that server fax is disabled. An access number is required to connect to an outside line. If the printer is connected to a PBX system, it could be necessary to enter a number to access the outside telephone line. The fax number needs a pause between the prefix for an outside line and the telephone number. To insert a pause, press the Dial Pause button. A comma ( ,) appears in the corresponding location. Troubleshooting 222 ColorQube 8700/8900 Color Multifunction Printer User Guide Problems Receiving Faxes Symptoms Probable Causes Solutions The fax received by the recipient is blank. There is a problem with the telephone connection or with the fax machine of the sender. Verify that the printer can make clean copies. If it can, have the sender fax the document again. The sender loaded the pages incorrectly. Contact the sender. The printer answers the call but does not print the fax. The memory is full. To increase available memory, delete stored jobs and wait for the existing jobs to complete. The received fax size is reduced in size. The paper supply in the printer does not match the document size sent. Confirm the original size of the documents, then load the app ropriate paper size in the printer. Faxes are not received automatically. The printer is set to receive faxes manually. Set the printer to receive faxes automatically. The memory is full. If the printer is out of paper, faxes and print jobs can deplete the printer of memory. Load paper and print the jobs stored in the memory. The telephone line is connected incorrectly. Verify the telephone line connection. If the telephone line is disconnected, connect it. There is a problem with the fax machine of the sender. Make a copy to verify that the printer can make clean copies and prints. If the copy prints correctly, have the recipient verify that their fax machine is operating correctly. Control Panel Messages The printer control panel provides information and troubleshooting help. When a fault or warning condition occurs, the control panel displays a message informing you of the problem. In many cases, the control panel also displays an animated graphic showing the location of the problem, such as the location of a paper jam. For many status and warning messages, the control panel Help provides additional information. Control Panel Help To view additional information about items and selections that appear on the control panel, pres s Help . The Help button is labeled with a question mark symbol ( ?). The control panel menu items also have associated help text that describes the menu item.

Alerts appear on the control panel touch screen, or you can view them through CentreWare Internet Services. Note: Fax errors do not prevent scanning, copying, or printing. Viewing Job Status on the Control Panel To see the status of a list of active jobs or completed jobs, press the Job Status button. • To see the status of the active jobs, touch the Active Jobs tab. • To see secure print jobs that are waiting for release, touch the My Secure Jobs tab. • To see the status of the last 20 completed jobs, touch the Completed Jobs tab. Viewing Alerts in CentreWare Internet Services See Accessing CentreWare Internet Services on page 26 to access the embedded Web server in the printer. 1. In CentreWare Internet Services, click Status > Description & Alerts . The Description and Alerts page appears. 2. To update the page, click Refresh . Vi ewing Error Messages on the Control Panel 1. Press the Machine Status button, then touch the Active Messages tab. 2. To view a list of the active messages, touch the arrow, then select an option from the list: − Faults and Alerts : All active faults and alerts appe ar in the list of active messages. − Faults : Only the active faults appear in the list of active messages. − Errors : Only the active alerts appear in the list of active messages. 3. To view a list of the last 20 printer faults, touch Fault History . − Fault Code : The fault code for the error that affected printer operation. − Date: The date when the error occurred. − Time : The time of the day when the error occurred. − Image Count : The image count on the printer when the error occurred. 4. To return to the Services Home menu, press the Services Home button. Maintenance Assistant Your printer includes a built -in diagnostic capability allowing you to send diagnostic information directly to Xerox. Maintenance Assistant is a remote diagnostic tool that offers a fast way to resolve potential issues, receive assistance, and automate the troubleshooting or repair process. Use Maintenance Assistant only when requested to do so by a Xerox representative.
