64-bit Operating Systems (O/S) via a U SB connection only supports printing.

You can print from a Windows application. For example, to print from WordPad using Windows XP, proceed 
as follows:

Using the machine as a Scanner
Document Scanner includes a TWAIN compliant scanner driver. The following is an example scanning 
procedures:

Registering your PC address to Your Machine
NOTE1. Register the address information with Auto Registration as you cannot use Manual 
registration at the scanner.
