    							Use Your Computer to Print a Nozzle Check PatternThe nozzle check function allows you to check whether the print head is working properly by printing a
    nozzle check pattern. Print the pattern if printing becomes faint, or if a specific color fails to print.
    The procedure for printing a nozzle check pattern is as follows:
     Nozzle Check
    1.
    Open the printer driver setup window
    2.
    Click  Nozzle Check  on the Maintenance  tab
    The  Nozzle Check  dialog box opens.
    Click  Initial Check Items  to display the items that you need to check before printing the nozzle check
    pattern.
    3.
    Load paper in the printer
    Load one sheet of A4 size or Letter size plain paper into the cassette 2..
    4.
    Print a nozzle check pattern
    Make sure that the printer is on and click  Print Check Pattern.
    Printing of the nozzle check pattern begins.
    Click  OK when the confirmation message appears.
    The  Pattern Check  dialog box opens.
    5.
    Check the print result
    Check the print result. When the print result is normal, click  Exit.
    If the print result is smudged or if there are any unprinted sections, click  Cleaning to clean the print
    head.

    							Cleaning the Exterior of the MachineBe sure to use a soft and dry cloth such as eyeglasses cleaning cloth and wipe off dirt on the surface gently.Smooth out wrinkles on the cloth if necessary before cleaning.
    Important
    •
    Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the machine.
    •
    Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, rough-textured cloth, or similar materials for cleaning so as notto scratch the surface. Paper tissue powder or fine threads may remain inside the machine and cause problems such as print head blockage and poor printing results.
    •
    Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to cleanthe machine, as this may cause a malfunction or damage the surface of the machine.
    •
    Use a soft cloth soaked in water and wrung well to wipe off stains on the operation panel. Do not turnon the power until the surface of the operation panel has completely dried.

    							Cleaning the Platen Glass and Document Cover
    Important
    •
    Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the machine.
    •
    Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, rough-textured cloth, or similar materials for cleaning so as notto scratch the surface. Paper tissue powder or fine threads may remain inside the machine and cause problems such as print head blockage and poor printing results.
    •
    Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to cleanthe machine, as this may cause a malfunction or damage the surface of the machine.
    With a soft, clean, lint-free and dry cloth, wipe the platen glass (A) and the inner side of the document cover (white sheet) (B) gently. Make sure not to leave any residue, especially on the glass surface.
    Important
    •
    The inner side of the document cover (white sheet) (B) is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.

    							Cleaning the Paper Feed RollerIf the paper feed roller is dirty or paper powder is attached to it, paper may not be fed properly.
    In this case, clean the paper feed roller. Cleaning will wear out the paper feed roller, so perform this only
    when necessary.
    You need to prepare
    For the cassette 1: A single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper (to be cut for use) For the cassette 2: Three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper1.
    Make sure that the power is turned on.
    2.
    Select  Roller cleaning .
    1.
    Flick the HOME screen, then tap  Setup .
    Using the Operation Panel
    The setup menu screen will appear.
    2.
    Tap   Maintenance .
    The  Maintenance  screen will appear.
    3.
    Tap Roller cleaning .
    The confirmation screen will appear.
    4.
    Tap Yes.
    5.
    Tap the paper source to clean ( Cassette 1 or Cassette 2 ).
    3.
    Clean the paper feed roller without paper.
    1.
    Follow the message to remove any paper from the paper source you selected in (5) of step 2.
    2.
    Tap OK.
    The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

    							4.Clean the paper feed roller with paper.1.
    Make sure that the paper feed roller has stopped rotating, then follow the message to loadplain paper as follows in the paper source you selected in (5) of step 2.
    Loading paper in the cassette 1:
    Cut a single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper into four pieces. Load them in the cassette 1 with the top and bottom edges (A) towards the back side of the cassette 1.
    Loading paper in the cassette 2:
    Load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized paper in the cassette 2.

    Holding both sides of the paper output tray, gently open it.
    The output tray extension will open automatically when the paper output tray is opened.
    3.
    Extend the paper output support.
    Important
    •
    If the disc tray guide is open, close it.
    4.
    Tap  OK.
    The machine starts cleaning. The cleaning will be complete when the paper is ejected.
    5.
    When the completion message appears, tap  OK.
    If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the paper feed roller, contact the service center.

    							Cleaning the Inside of the Machine (Bottom Plate Cleaning)Remove stains from the inside of the machine. If the inside of the machine becomes dirty, printed paper mayget dirty, so we recommend performing cleaning regularly.
    You need to prepare: a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper* * Be sure to use a new piece of paper.1.
    Make sure that the power is turned on.
    2.
    Clean the inside of the machine.

    Flick the HOME screen, then tap   Setup .
    Using the Operation Panel
    The setup menu screen will appear.

    Tap   Maintenance .
    The  Maintenance  screen will appear.
    3.
    Tap Bottom plate cleaning .
    The confirmation screen will appear.
    4.
    Tap Yes.
    5.
    Follow the message to remove any paper from the cassette 2, then tap  OK.
    6.
    Fold a single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in half widthwise, then unfold the paper.
    7.
    Fold one side of the opened paper in another half, aligning the edge with the center crease,
    unfold the paper, then tap  OK.

    							8.Load only this sheet of paper in the cassette 2 with the ridges of the creases facing up and
    the edge of the half with no crease facing to the far side.9.
    Holding both sides of the paper output tray, gently open it.
    The output tray extension will open automatically when the paper output tray is opened.
    10.
    Extend the paper output support.
    Important
    •
    If the disc tray guide is open, close it.
    11.
    Tap  OK.
    The paper cleans the inside of the machine as it feeds through the machine.
    Check the folded parts of the ejected paper. If they are smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning
    again.
    12.
    When the completion message appears, tap  OK.
    Note
    •
    When performing Bottom Plate Cleaning again, be sure to use a new piece of paper.
    If the problem is not resolved after performing cleaning again, the protrusions inside the machine may be
    stained. Wipe off any ink from the protrusions using a cotton swab or the like.
    Important
    •
    Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the machine.

    							Cleaning the Pad in the CassetteIf the pad in a cassette is smeared with paper powder or dirt, two or more sheets of paper may be ejected.
    Follow the procedure below to clean the pad in a cassette.
    You need to prepare: cotton swab1.
    Pull out the cassette 1 or cassette 2 from the machine, then remove all the paper.
    2.
    Clean the pad (A) sideways with a moistened cotton swab.
    Important
    •
    After cleaning the smeared pad, dry it completely.

    Reload the paper in the cassette, then insert it into the machine.
    Note
    •
    If a message is displayed on the screen after inserting the cassette into the machine, tap Register .
    If the problem is not resolved, contact the service center.
