Î Î The vehicle identif ication number (VIN)/chassis number is moulded on the f ire wall in the engine compartment. To access this number, remove the lid on the back of the engine compartment. Make sure to reinstall the lid bef ore closing the bonnet. On some types, the chassis number/ chassis and engine numbers also appear on the plate attached to the lef t side doorjamb. The three way catalytic converter contains precious metals that serve as catalysts, promoting chemical reactions to convert the exhaust gasses without af f ecting the metals. The catalytic converter is ref erred to as a three-way catalyst, since it acts on HC, CO, and NOx. A replacement unit must be an original Honda part or its equivalent. The three way catalytic converter must operate at a high temperature for the chemical reactions to take place. It can set on f ire any combustible materials that come near it. Park your vehicle away from high grass, dry leaves, or other f lammables.A defective three way catalytic converter contributes to air pollution, and can impair your engine’s perf ormance. Follow these guidelines to protect your vehicle’s three way catalytic converter. Always use unleaded petrol. Even a small amount of leaded petrol can contaminate the catalyst metals, making the three way catalytic converter inef f ective.Keep the engine well maintained. The PM will be burnt out and removed f rom the DPF at a periodically high temperature of the catalytic converter while driving. While the PM is burnt, you may notice some changes on the instrument panel and the exhaust gas. You may notice some white smoke in the exhaust gas. The average f uel consumption on the multi-inf ormation display will be increased temporarily. The DPF system requires no regular maintenance. If you drive f or long periods at slow speeds, particulate matter (PM) will be accumulated and the regeneration of DPF will be required. The condition of the accumulated PM will vary with the type of diesel f uel. Always use the recommended diesel f uel in this owner’s manual (see page ).If you see this symbol or this symbol with a ‘‘DPF REGENERATION REQUIRED’’ message on the multi- inf ormation display while the engine is running, it means the diesel particulate f ilter (DPF) should be regenerated to remove the accumulated particulate matter (PM). Your vehicle is equipped with the diesel particulate f ilter (DPF) system to remove the particulate matter (PM) f rom the exhaust gas.
