    NOTICE
Personal computer (PC) technology is continually
evolving. As it does, the 416/832 System will con-
tinue to incorporate important design enhance-
ments. Thus, depending on the actual version of
equipment that is shipped, the following installa-
tion instructions could vary somewhat. If revised
instructions are included with the equipment, refer
    to them instead.
6.18 Install the computer cards in the computer com-
plex as outlined on the following pages.
    CAUTION
The cards and components are static sensitive.
Handle the cards by the edges only and keep them
in their protective bags until they are to be in-
stalled. Do not bend or touch the pins of the com-
ponents or subject them to a static charge. When
working with the cards, use a properly terminated
anti-static wrist strap and cover the work surface
with the bag that protected the card during ship
ping. Any static charge (no matter how small the
charge) must be discharged from the body before
touching the cards or components. The warranty
for this equipment abe9 not cover damage caused
by static or mishandling. Cad or components
damaged in such a manner will not be replaced
m 6.19 Currently, there are five versions of PC Mother-
boards used on the 4161832 System: PCC (PC Calc),
I SUNTAC, VLSI, MXIC, and the new M396F. Installa-
tion instructions for all five are included.
PC Motherboard - PCC (PC Calc) Version
6.20 Install the “PCC” version PC Motherboard as
outlined in the following steps. For a drawing of the
card, refer to Figure 3-38 on page 3-61.
    (1) Ensure that the AC POWER switch is OFF.
NOTE: When inserting or removing the com-
puter cards, the system power must be turned off
to prevent damage to the cards.
    (2) Measure the voltage of the battery on the PC
Motherboard. If the voltage is not greater than
2.4VDC, replace the onboard battery with an ex-
ternal battery as outlined in Inter-Tel 256/832
Tech Tip No. 0002, or return the card for repair. (3)

    (9)
    (10)
    (11) NOTE: Ifthe battery is rechargeable, it must be
charged for at least 48 hours before testing.
Check to make sure that jumper straps are in-
stalled in the following locations (see Figure
    3-38 for orientation): ROM-SEL (pins 3 and 6),
    ROM-SEL (pins 4 and 5), E2 (pins 1 and 2), E3
    (pins 1 and 2), J17 (pins 1 and 2), J18 (pins 1 and
    2), J25 (pins 1 and 2), and J29 (pins 2 and 3).
Check to see that all components on the card are
seated securely in their sockets and that no pins
    are bent.
    Place a self-locking star washer on the 6-32 X
M-inch mounting screw included with the sys-
tem and insert it through mounting hole A at the
    bottom of the card.
Then place the a-inch spacer included with the
system over the mounting screw and hold it in
place while performing the next two steps.
With the computer card connectors at the bottom
and facing to the front, slide the PC Motherboard
in through the front of the top portion of the
    equipment cabinet.
Align the PCMotherboard over the plasticstand-
ofi and snap it into place. Make sure the card is
securely seated. Then insert the screw from step
    5.
    Place a self-locking star washer on the 6-32 x
a-inch mounting screw included with the sys-
tem and insert it in mounting hole B at the top of
    the card.
Attach the free ends, P9 and P8, of the 12-pin PC
Motherboard power cable to the 12-pin connec-
tor on the front of the PC Motherboard. The
single wire that extends from the bottom edge of
connector P8 will be attached to the HDLC Card
    after it is installed.
NOTE: The other end of the power cable was
previously attached to the power supply.
Attach the free end of the keyboard interface
cable to the 5pin DIN connector on the bottom
    edge of the PC Motherboard.
NOTE: The keyboard interface cable comes
pre-routed in the equipment cabinet. The free
end of the cable lies in the soffit (cable shelf),
while the other end is attached to the internal side
of the peripheral connector panel on the back of
    the cabinet.

NOTE: The battery, which is rechargeable, must
be charged for at least 48 hours before testing.
Check to make sure that the PC Motherboard is

the plastic stand-offs for better seating. Also,
with some older equipment cabinets, it may be
necessary to place one or more x-inch spacers
between the motherboard and the cabinet frame.
